    I'm sure the majority of the complaints mentioned here will be addressed further down the line.
    We only have 40% of the game (Or close to that number) with no story outside of the introduction

    The premise is excellent. Sadly, the decision to offer an open world survival isn't as exciting or attracting.

    • @Krylo22
      @Krylo22 8 лет назад +12

      You hit the nail on the head there. It looked terrifying in the trailer. I thought the survival element would come from escaping these crazy residents, but instead it turned into a typical eat/sleep/drink game.

    • @JazGalaxy
      @JazGalaxy 8 лет назад

      Yeah, well. I hate when people complain about a game because it's a different genre than what they would make. They aren't developers. You can't rely on other people to make the game YOU wish YOU had made if you have the talent and skills. They are making the game THEY gained those skills to make.

    • @JazGalaxy
      @JazGalaxy 8 лет назад

      Krylo22 You don't like it.. fine. Other people do.

      Yknow, differing opinions?

  • @Billryethejewishguy

    From the criticism I see people wanted this to be bioshock, it's not its intention from the start was to be a survival game and it is still in very early access, and they have said they will change and add things in the development.

    • @jungla3
      @jungla3 8 лет назад +8

      Of course they will improve things. Mike and whoever the other guys is, they're just giving feedback on HOW to improve it. NerdCubed also said that this version of the game cost him 30 dollars, so he was sort of expecting something better than...whatever this game is right now.

    • @Billryethejewishguy
      @Billryethejewishguy 8 лет назад +1

      Oh yea without a doubt the game needs alot of improvement via stealth and combat I dont see this becoming a 60$ title, but still optimistic about things :D

      Everyone and their dog is trying to make the next Minecraft only do it in a world that's realistically rendered instead of being made of lego blocks. Which is the next obvious step. But they're all failing either because they're just plain bad, unable or unwilling to find a balance between common sense realism and gameplay especially in crafting, horrifically difficult, or possibly worst of all, balanced for a huge number of people working together in multiplayer.

    This game started off so strong with the creepy environment, but it turns into a mess. There's just nothing outside of the beginning that's remotely entertaining.

    • @TheLeagueObservers
      @TheLeagueObservers 8 лет назад +5

      This. The problem with it isn't so much the universe, it's the aimless wandering and crafting that kills it. I kind of liked the main character and his connection to Joy. It reminded me of Haze, the failed PS3 first person shooter. The constant struggle between an illusion of happiness and reality rings a bell all too well with many of us. But, let's ignore any of that deep thinking that just happened in the first ten minutes, let's wander around and craft stuff! Don't forget managing food and water! ISN'T THIS FUN?!

    • @sneezydragonlol
      @sneezydragonlol 8 лет назад +1

      +TheLeagueObservers I feel like these people came up with a great idea, but then some random guy on the team walked over to them and said; Hey, this is a great idea! But you know what people like right now? Survival games! Subnautica, 7 days to die, stranded, ark , Day- z! - you want your game to be popular? Make it a survival! All of this British dystopia will make it unique in that field!
      Except... Well... - the running trend with most survival games is that they don't have any story. The objective of trying to find resources to keep your character alive is more than enough to keep you busy. Adding story on top of that is overwhelming, unless there is an abundance of resources. It's hard to get involved in a story when you're worrying if you brought enough food with you, or if you realise you ran out of water - you're always getting pulled away from the story.

    • @sneezydragonlol
      @sneezydragonlol 8 лет назад

      +SwiftFoxyGamer Ummm, they were just examples..- I don't actually think someone went to them and said those exact words. That part was meant to be a joke. My actual thoughts on the game are featured below that joke.

    • @BullsquidGaming
      @BullsquidGaming 8 лет назад

      sneezydragonlol well still this is early access when it fully comes out of early access it'll have survival aspects plus a fully fledged story line unlike most survival games that are just survive and escape or just survive

      read the early access page and then you will realize why

  • @grassycrab
    @grassycrab 8 лет назад +27

    I thought this game was going to a bioshock or modern adventure game, but since it's a open world survival game I'm passing on it completely.

    • @PascalGrüger276
      @PascalGrüger276 8 лет назад +10

      that trailer was very misleading in a way

    • @lieutenantyoshi5704
      @lieutenantyoshi5704 8 лет назад

      That's the thing game designers don't understand is that going down the path of making it pointless to fight anyone and have to search for food takes away the escape and fun. People play games to have fun, not to be bored.

    • @grassycrab
      @grassycrab 8 лет назад

      I will say that open world survival games are trendy genre currently, but like Pascal said, the trailer is misleading and I am not a fan of that style of game.

    Can we get access to that "Bioshock Orange" pic? That was amazing.

  • @Dreadjaws
    @Dreadjaws 8 лет назад +1

    Man, I hate it when survival games can't manage to make a proper hunger/thirst mechanic. Remember Metal Gear Solid 3? That game had a (no pun intended) solid hunger mechanic. Your stamina bar would get low slowly, and if it reached the end you'd start losing life.
    You didn't have to be _constantly_ eating, only once in a while, there was plenty of food everywhere, and some kinds would fill you better than others. That was a great game, I can't recommend it enough.

  • @ChrisLerouxDesign
    @ChrisLerouxDesign 8 лет назад +26

    I agree with you on all points, except for the cliché nature - I think that's the point and the conformity to stereotypes helps demonstrate how clearly dystopian everything is. Bioshock itself does this quite a bit, and definitely for the same purpose. Like if I had to design a world in which everyone was brainwashed into "perfection," I'd totally integrate stereotypes.

    • @itsgeegra
      @itsgeegra 8 лет назад +3

      I think it's a little much to imply they implemented clichés in order to be subversive, though if they did on purpose I'd think that was an awful creative decision - make a good game, don't try and be clever and make a bad one to subvert expectations

    • @ChrisLerouxDesign
      @ChrisLerouxDesign 8 лет назад +1

      Gareth Graham I couldn't disagree more. That's the point of joy - you aren't clever. Many games have done the same thing. Fallout 3 did it with Tranquility Lane with the "perfect TV family"

    • @HopUpOutDaBed
      @HopUpOutDaBed 8 лет назад

      dystopian worlds are cliche themselves. nothing fun or interesting about it anymore. nothing about this is new or different.

    • @timo4258
      @timo4258 8 лет назад

      You can do the conformity thing well, and you can do it badly. Bioshock did it well, this game seems to do it horribly badly.

    • @CyberLance26
      @CyberLance26 8 лет назад

      The developers obviously want it to feel like you are in Britain so if there would be no stereotypical british stuff it would not feel like thats where the game takes place and could just be America or any random place in the western world.

      It's about halfway done so what did you expect? o.O
      On another note having seen some of Splattercat's videos I'd say that some of Cinemassacre's critique are well thought out E.G. the time flow. Other parts like the genre I'd say that they game seem to handle quite well.
      It's somewhat amusing ,though, to hear them say that it didn't take them long to notice that he was no Rambo and then showed recordings of them (seemingly) treating the stick of a man (which the character is) like he was your run-of-the-mill action character! :D

    • @RannonSi
      @RannonSi 8 лет назад +1

      Oh and my other opinion on early access is that if you buy it you deserve what you get! Don't use money you wouldn't mind losing (as what you're doing is pretty much lending it to a stranger and hope that you'll get t back)

    i adore the art style of this game. the stilization really gives it a special athmosphere, while distinctly looking and feeling like a video game. the looks fit the twisted world.

I'm sure in a while they will find a happy medium between crafting and survival with exploration and world building.

Well it's been 45 seconds, time to eat, drink, and find a stick.

    Everybody is reviewing this early access game. You get the story when they release the game. If you want the background before the game is released then read 1984 and Brave New World, as well as watch A Clockwork Orange and Brazil.

    Dead Island. Remember how awesome that trailer was. Prey and how that intro with the music and everything made us feel. This seems to be traveling on that path for now. I couldn't wait to play it. Just no fun at all. It's kind of funny but it seems like the developers are on Joy and we the players are not. Something to think about.

    I'd like it if they made the survival aspect were included in a "hardcore" mode and have a more streamlined main game.

    I really hope they listen to you guys and others who have expressed their opinions and tweak this game to make it more enjoyable. It looks really cool and the graphics engine looks nice as well, although the post apocalyptic thing has pretty well been done to death, I think this game still has a TON of potential!! I'll keep my peepers on this one, thanks for another great video guys!.....Mmmm ShitpicklE! ;O

    I'd say they should make two gamemodes, story where you don't have to concern yourself with hunger, thirst etc and instead can just focus on the story, and survival, where you would have the survival stuff in, and maybe different, simpler objectives with less emphasis in story. So basically a mystery adventure game and a survival game, not a mystery adventure survival game

    Watching the trailer, I got zero impression that it was going to be a rogue-like survival game. I got the impression that it was going to be a big story driven "choose when you stop taking Joy to see when shit hits the fan" kind of game.

    Most survival games have similar issues with food and others but it's hard to make it right so just wait for a couple of patches!

  • @BoydWillemsen
    @BoydWillemsen 8 лет назад +1

    It's a survival game, meaning you have to survive. To give you that feeling of survival, they give you limited resources and means to defend yourself. In Resident Evil they give you limited ammo for instance. This game just takes it to another level. If you don't like the concept of survival: fine, but judge the game on what it is, not on what you want it to be.

    • @Zeburaman2005
      @Zeburaman2005 8 лет назад

      Survival Horror is a whole different genre than Survival games. To use your example, you didn't have to worry about your character's condition deteriorating over time in Resident Evil, nor did you have to scavenge for meager resources in a vast open world while dodging zombies and mutants.

    • @BoydWillemsen
      @BoydWillemsen 8 лет назад

      Zeburaman2005
      You had very limited supplies in Resident Evil. You could only shoot when you really had to, because otherwise you'd run out of bullets really soon. Same goes for herbs.
      I'm not saying this game is perfect: they do point out good flaws (like the day/night cycle being way too quick), but they pick on the survival aspect of this.....well, survival game.

    • @Zeburaman2005
      @Zeburaman2005 8 лет назад

      TerrionGaming You misuderstood my point, that Survival Horror games and actual Survival games have very little in common. My comment wasn't even remotely about the quality of this particular game, since I haven't tried it yet.
      Also, having played all old school RE games, I have to say that it's very feasable to just mow down every creature save for a couple zombies. That only requires a bit of tactical thinking and saving the stongest weapons for the later parts of the game.

    • @BoydWillemsen
      @BoydWillemsen 8 лет назад

      Zeburaman2005
      The later Resident Evil took that aspect away, yes. But remember Resident Evil 1? You really couldn't gun down every zombie, since you needed the bullets so badly. But even so, it's a survival game. I don't see any horror elements in this game. Maybe I misused the terminology, so I apologize for that.

    • @Zeburaman2005
      @Zeburaman2005 8 лет назад

      TerrionGaming No need to apologize, I guess I was being a bit too anal on these games' genres myself. It's just that to me the horror themed games of yesteryear are more focused on combat and evasion, as well as on puzzle solving, rather than on resources gathering survival. So games like Resident Evil, Silent Hill, Fatal Frame, etc. are more about dodging creatures long enough to take them out or flee, in a maze like setting. Whereas modern Survival games pit the player against human nature itself, where thirst, hunger, mental wellbeing and climatic conditions are your enemies. In that sense, both experiences are very different from one another.
      I agree, Resident Evil 1 was indeed a different beast compared to subsequent games. I guess my memories of it are a bit vague, since I only played it through once a long time ago.

  • @Peter_1986
    @Peter_1986 8 лет назад

    I feel like this is one of those games where the developers have been like "lol people complain that modern games are too easy, so let's make things very tricky here!", and then make the game "challenging" by making the player feel confused and at an unfair disadvantage.
    The developers need to take a look at Perfect Dark for the N64 - that game is super-hard in a good way.

    I've watched some gameplay and a whole play through and I have also heard these same complains however to me it doesn't seem that unmanageable and as you progress through the story getting food and water becomes even more attainable which is the mark of a good game. The system for crafting I heard was bad but to me it seems just simple enough anyone can do it but complex enough that if you want to do more with it you can. Days didn't look to go too fast either and the point is supposed to be that the downers don't talk and are depressed so they wouldn't try talking to you. The wellingtons, spoilers do need a bit more dialogue I'll agree but the idea of them is that joy makes you happy but also forgetful so while they do walk and talk with everyone you can imagine it's a very thin conversation of mainly pleasantries and then onto the same conversation to the next person. Besides being early access I do think conversations will be added with more important characters down the line.

    Actually, there was talk about said apocalypse in an earlier review on it. According to the article, this is a game set in an alternative history where the Axis powers won World War II and bombed Great Britain to hell. So to keep from commiting suicide, because they lost, the Brits take Joy to forget it all.

    I'm not denying insight here, but this is more so a critique of the survival genre than it is of this game in particular. The survival genre is definitely not for everyone; but vulnerability can majorly boost immersion and how real the world feels when, like real life, it's not designed for your convenience.
