Great to hear from Mo. I hope that the question regarding the increased wage bill breakdown can be disclosed in full to everyone to dispell any further queries.
These owner’s ’money-ball’ system use to be effective. But right now, we aren’t a small, distressed asset any more. We are at the point where we need more spending to be competitive, and FSG must stop treating us like a small club.
Money ball doesn't win titles or trophies. Maybe it lucks into one, but it does not sustain a dynasty franchise. It is a great plan to revitalize a floundering program and get them back into a fighting position, but if you want to win big, you have to spend big. There are very few exceptions.
@@PhilBattisonStop defending them, the club pays those wages, not FSG. They are merely the hedge fund that acquired an asset for a criminally undervalued £300m and morphed it into a £6bn jewel while investing the square root of zero investor money. They are good for a £5bn+ dividend when they eventually decide to sell and will never put a cent of that dividend towards achieving success. Success to them is incidental.
@@Veyron1967 before FSG took ownership, commercially the club was run like a league one club. Brian Reade's book on the reign of Hicks and Gillette is very illuminating. So to say that the £350m was a criminal undervalue is a bit revisionist. I was working at a law firm in Manchester at the time and some colleagues had contacts at RBS. RBS were very close to putting the club into administration. Who were the only ones who came to the table? FSG and Peter Lim, and Lim couldn't show proof of funds. So how have they 'morphed' it into a £6bn jewel? It's not all about the TV money. They've definitely got it purring from a commercial point of view. So whilst it's worth having a conversation about monies put into the club, I'm not going to be silly about it. We were very much on the verge on not being seen as a big club any more when they took over and could have been competing with Everton in mid-table. Football clubs are weird businesses, in that they are the only businesses where seems to be acceptable to lose money year on year and expect the shareholders to constantly pour in money. It's no wonder that so many clubs are close to insolvency and in any other walk of life, they'd be gone. I personally have no problem in the club being run in a sustainable way and I'd rather they lowered the wage bill a bit so I didn't have to pay £48 a ticket in the Annie Road.
Craig thank you you are the only one with a community that really tries to share knowledge with the fans and keep them informed about the wrong things in our club
This was a great video. Mo explains things very clearly. And it is refreshing to hear someone so knowledgeable saying, in a better way, what we have been saying for a whike.
They never explained anything other accuse the owners of doing some creative accounting or stealing money for themselves - what facts did they present to you that support their premise? The notion that the club would finagle accounting is ludicrous, because if these idiots found it, then I am sure that the governing body will find the same discrepanices as well. Wages can rise also due to players being bought previously via amortization - i.e. fees spaced out over a number of years. Has Mo and lying Craig factored the Women's team and academy players? No... he spoke just about the first team alone, and therefore that other amount he didn't consider could very well be wages paid to the Womens team to balance the amount they quoted. Liverpool backed Kloop to almost a billion dollars... what if Slot and Hughes and co are satisfied with the current team, and are basically waiting until the summer to do major business, when they know what the three, Salah, VVD, and Trent, are going to do. Just because the club doesn't move when you think they should move, does not constitute being cheap... as a matter of fact, they have done tremendous business by bringing the right players to maintain the high percentage in wins, and this season, with the same team that faltered last season, Slot is on the verge of taking them to the top of the mountains. So Craig lies when he accuses FSG for being cheap, it's a rather unintelligent cop out when the players he likes go elsewhere, rather than come to Liverpool. Hughes built the current Bournemouth team, and they are playing beautiful football... we face them soon, and I am scared of that team... I won't lie, they are dangerous and could easily beat us or anyone in the league. So if he could do that with Bournemouth, what do you think he will do with Liverpool when the time comes to make player acquisitions? You lot need to take a chill pill, stop waffling, support the lads on the field, and leave decisions you have absolutely no clue about to experts to sourt out.

We were told the players are on mega bonus deals linked to success (fair enough, makes sense, everyone wins). Hence when we won the ECL and EPL the wage bill increased. This club were in 3 out of a possible 5 Champions League FINALS between 2018-23, after being in the Europa League FINAL in Jurgen's first season. The TV money alone makes us a top earning club. Thiago, Adrian and Matip left on frees and weren't replaced which is yet another massive wage saving, particularly as Thiago was reportedly on £200-220k per week! All these new sponsorships and shirt deals with adidas makes us a hugely cash generative club, yet the owners sold more players than they bought, and we ended up with a £10 million Chiesa who hardly gets 5 minutes on the pitch! It stinks, 2 + 2 = hoodwinked.
Fantastic video Craig! Brilliant to see someone else aligned with my (our) views! Fed up of the gaslighting from other channels or anyone associated to Liverpool! Great interview, well done. Might be worth adding that amortisation costs are completely distinct from salary costs in the club’s accounts. I’ve read some people suggesting that amortisation contributed to the higher salary costs. That can’t be true.
Amortisation of an asset (player) shows on a Balance Sheet. Wages are part of operating costs and are reported on the Profit and Loss account. So, yes they are treated and reported differently. Hope that helps.
Particularly interesting was Mo’s observation that unlike other huge clubs who tend to trumpet the size of their commercial deals to emphasise their importance FSG seem to habitually understate Liverpool’s deals so that FSG can play the pauper. That sounds entirely in keeping with our beloved owners’ mentality tbh 😱
Thank you both so much for bringing light to this situation. I've been trying to tell people FSG are not good for LFC for as long as I can remember now. People really have been brainwashed by sycophant fan channels and I'm tired of it. Why are they supporting owners who don't invest any of their own money, show no ambition of wanting to reach AND STAY at the top, and still operate with their cheapskate MoneyBall approach as if we're a club the size of the likes of Brighton and Bournemouth. Did a SINGLE person in the world think we needed to go and buy an up-and-coming GOALKEEPER when we had the likes of Alisson and Kelleher? This tells me exactly what they want to do - finding value in prospects to make profit from in the future. Ambition to make money, but no ambition to improve the current squad. Remember that LFC's revenue is up there as one of the biggest clubs in the world because of US FANS paying to watch the players, supporting the coaches and managers, and getting LFC all the clicks and likes - yet they continue to disrespect us and even our players by clearly offering contracts that are just unacceptable to them.
Well said 👏🏻 not to mention this approach of only ever having one target! Makes no sense, you should have a list of 2/3 players that are suitable for that role within the team, you can’t build/maintain a winning sustainable team if you only ever have one target in mind for whatever position you need filling 🤦🏻♂️
One more thing that I need to add. FSG should do well to remember that owning a football club is very very very different from owning corporations. When you own a corporation (especially one that is not traded publicly), they really don't have to be accountable to anyone and what they do other than to themselves. However owning a football club is different. As FSG said a number of times they are just the "custodians of the club". What that means is that they are still accountable to the supporters and said supporters to have a right to question issues like this and have a right to get an accounting and answer. They should not be brushed off with radio silence. As SOS do not represent the majority of Liverpool supporters, they are not representative of the fans' voices and FSG should not take SOS as a be all and end all when it comes to supporter accountability.
Great discussion. Good to know that there are people with the expertise out there who work hard to keeps checks on the club finances to let everyone know what's going on. Good for those who insists that FSG invests in the club to have a look at this too. Unfortunately too many of the "journalists" covering LFC or fan channels lack the integrity to ask pertinent questions and choose the easy way out to toe the line.

Great video. It’s very worrying if our recruitment policy is all hopes on 1 specific player to sign with no backups (aka Zubimendi) as this is setting up for failure from the beginning. With regards to Salah and VVD with their age being a problem, these players will still have a reasonable sell on value to The Saudi league if their performances decline slightly so surely this minimises risks

@@AnfieldAgenda on the DR sports podcast a week ago, The clown came out with the classic top red quote of “Fsgoutters don’t go to a game”. Even when he’s criticized them himself the hypocrite🙄
This is the best guest that has ever come on your podcast. He is informative and knows what he is talking about. More intelligent intel discussions please.
Absolutely perfectly put throughout this episode. The contract situation is shocking. My own thoughts are FSG do not want to add to the wage bill because they are selling us in the summer to pursue their Basketball dream and input into golf.
I just thought it would be nice for fans to hear from someone with a lot of financial experience and knowledge. I’ve been saying it for years but it’s great that we’re now having a broader conversation about the spending.
I would like to know whether players running down their contracts is down to the players. I look at it similar to the bowman ruling. There is a massive incentive for players to run down their contracts. With signing on bonuses for players and agents, the transfer market has changed significantly. It's easy to say sell a player that doesn't want to sign, but ultimately the player has to want to go. This is even harder if the player brings value on the pitch. The player has all the options possible if they rundown their contact, even if they choose to stay. It's more valuable for them, than a straight renewal. Until we know more, I think we will see more players running down contacts in order to get the best deals for them.
Great interview so informative and balanced... I have been telling people for years I'm not afraid of Man City but our own owners. It's amazing how docile they have managed to make the majority of the fanbase.
@mikep710 were we the best team on the planet last season or the season before? There are a lot of us who are VERY happy with what is happening on the pitch but VERY concerned by what is going on off the pitch for the future (hoping to be wrong btw). A little bit of critical thinking allows for those two views to be held at the same time.
Fantastic interview Craig what a top guy Mo is very informative and spitting pure facts to. So glad he mentioned lavia deal l said this at time dragging it out weeks on end offering few million quid more. He has looked a lot better this season lavia. If no significant investment in summer there will be uproar. Build from a position of strength and players will want to sign also we win league.
I believe we arent signing anyone or spending on wages but saving for summer to replace the big players that will unfortunately leave for free. I dont agreee with this but it looks like the fsg blueprint. I think Slot will see TAA, VVD and Salah leave and be given £120-150 mil to replace them and find a cdm, cb ,lb. It's going to take a lot of great bargain buys to have us in the top 5 but i don't expect to challenge for the league for maybe 2/3 seasons. Fsg are tight but why dont they allow us to spend our profits are they on the take? Only time will tell.
@ do you realise how insignificant 2m or 9m losses are in a set of accounts for a club worth billions. Can you imagine Apple or a company like that panicking about a small loss and saying, oh we better tighten our belts and spend less on research on development ? How can you listen about the clear underinvestment and take out from it that they are great, they let us spend our own money? Only time they have sanctioned decent spend of our own money is when top 4 was lost or at risk
@@user-kd8ge3kp2k we've made no loss, we are a club with owners that have never ever put their own money into the funding of players. Mike Ashley spent more at Newcastle than fsg. We and fsg have been extremely lucky having good managers. I'm under the impression that Rogers might have won us the league had he been backed properly in the January transfer window. It's either next season or the season after where clubs can spend a lot more and we will be left behind in the recruitment by clubs that have owners that spend their own money and the clubs profits. It could be a dark time. Heaven forbid but imagine we had a dip as bad as united and made losses and the owners didn't spend, we'd be relegated. The thing is though it's not just the owners spending their own money, their not spending the money liverpool fc makes too, tickets, merchandise, prize money, sponsorship deals. I fully expect to see Salah, TAA and VVD go to bring the wages down further, we've signed Mamardashvili and most fans believe he'll be a understudy to Alisson. We already have the second best if not best keeper in Kelkeher and I think we'll sell him and move alisson on to cut the wages again. Then we'll recruit up and coming and when they become successful we'll sell them on when they ask for a rise. I think fsg plans for us are to become a successful selling club not successful as in winning trophies but just being amongst the competitors. There's a pattern forming and I hope I'm wrong but I only foresee mediocre incoming unless we push these owners out
This does need bringing up to the owners that we have people on to them. They will get found out. But by then we have lost top players and not signed anyone that can push us on. Cheers Craig and mo. Brilliant that
There won't even be any serious money available,it's all in financial institutions so john Henry can get favourable Loan Conditions to expand his Empire at the expense of leaving us to wither on the Vine
I appreciate what Mo has given us to think about on this, but two things bother me. Firstly he doesn't seem to put any doubt on Deloitte's figures, despite mentioning the fact that the club's official figures won't come out for another few weeks. And secondly he doesn't really provide any answers, just questions. I appreciate that he doesn't want to trash his reputation by going hard on speculation one way or the other, knowing full well that he could be wrong if he does. But we've got such a significant discussion going on around the wage bill and what it means and no one is able to explain it. Questions are important but what we ultimately need here are answers. The result of this is that no small portion of the fan base now think that FSG are robbing us.
Brilliant stream Craig, Mo so honest and so interesting to listen to. I have always believed LFC/FSG are choosing to penny pinch, JK also enabled the owners. Keep up the good work Craig! I will sleep like baby tonight. The truth is now out there!
The thing is this happens in business but we as fans just want us to spend the money when we need to. We don’t want to be overspending and wasting money . Like this jan we need a midfielder and a cb. Go get them!
The problem is we are part of a sports conglomerate - LFC, Red Sox, Penguins, and 2 years ago FSG paid $550 million for a TGL indoor golf team in a league run by Tiger and Rory. Really? (Their TV ratings are tanking.) Two things I believe - all the net revenue goes into one pot, and some of that money is set aside for corporate expansion (Boston Celtics?, $6 billion). Senior management has the option of picking winners and also rans. What we is need is a new owner or group who is only focused on football and the success of the team in a very competitive sport. And financially competitive with big European clubs.
Very insightful interview craig...respect for that....why though do we need external experts in the fanbase to try to explain it to us? We need the cluv to be more openly transparent tonthe fanbase....anyway...this was a truly interesting interview..
I dont believe klopp wanted to hold onto players and not sign anyone, I believe the board told him to say that. Klopp would be contradicting himself saying, it's always healthy to have new faces and then also saying we dont need new signings.
@@user-kd8ge3kp2k yup not only did they not back a new manager but they weakend the strength of the team by selling what could have been good rotational players in Seb van der berg, Bobby Clark and the one I really didn't want to lose Carvalho. Nobody can convince me that slot didn't want to keep them as he played them so much in the preseason games.

@@AnfieldAgendayou know your asking the right questions when the clubs lapdog journalists are avioding those very questions. the numbets dont add up , im no Maths buff but I know how business works and greed is the top of the menu.
@@PhilBattison really? Can you explain why ? Stadium, AXA, etc yes - investment on the pitch , a big no
That was very informative
Enjoyed that stream. Thanks Mo, very interesting. Also thanks Craig for getting such a straight talking and honest guest on tonight. Keep up the great work Craig my friend. YNWA 👏
For algorithm! Love it Craig!
Someone should send this to AGT
No idea what that’s in relation to tbh
What does AGT stand for?
Americas Got Talent?
@@AnfieldAgenda AGT is the annoying Liverpool fan on DR Sports
@@AnfieldAgenda on the DR sports podcast a week ago, The clown came out with the classic top red quote of “Fsgoutters don’t go to a game”. Even when he’s criticized them himself the hypocrite🙄
Brilliant episode Craig & Mo, everything was explained brilliantly and fairly 👏🏻
this is one of the best ones. very insightful!
Absolutely brilliant interview! He said what we’ve all been thinking for years
Great work Craig and Mo.
Doesn’t take much of an expert one of the biggest clubs in the world doesn’t spend any money and the American man take it home
I just thought it would be nice for fans to hear from someone with a lot of financial experience and knowledge. I’ve been saying it for years but it’s great that we’re now having a broader conversation about the spending.
@AnfieldAgenda he's a great guest, now we wait for the FSG inners to start with their Mental Gymnastics to spin this into an FSG and JHENRY W.😂
This will be fire 🔥
That was a very interesting and informative interview. Big up Craig and thanks to Mo on his insights.
Thank you very much
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 a lot of that needed to be said Mo well done 👍🏻
Brilliant amount of info, thanks so much.
Great insight Craig and Mo
Absolutely superb content Craig and Mo. Explained in layman's terms, Thank you gents.
Great content. Brilliant Mo and Craig. Eye opener. YNWA
Great stuff love it as he says fsg are cheap
Brilliant podcast - Tube catch up with Mo
Good stuff thanks Craig and Mo
Very insightful, well done gents
Big ups Craig and everyone at Anfield agenda! Keep grinding you guys are doing a gods work!
Excellent content and coverage of LFC finances. Thanks to Craig and Mo.
Great content Craig. Mo explained it clearly if some additional investment from FSG could have seen us with more trophies during Jurgen reign.
Really fantastic video Craig and Mo 👍 ….. keep up the great work both !!
Great and enlightening discussion. Seems to Me FSG position re Liverpool , financial-goal wise , is top 4. ECL full stop.
Excellent interview!
Great video. Validation for what you have been calling out not that you need it,
its what ever liverpool fan feels
Brilliant! Thanks!
Super stuff. Simple. Walk on
Great show guys
Hi gentlemen
Very very interesting thank you Craig and mo ynwa
Absolute top video tks craig
Tifo did a great video explaining Liverpool has basically caught up to Manu Commercially
I don’t trust Ornstien anymore constant stories from him always turn out bad for us. FSG selling, VVD contract offer in December. Krava interest
Really good watch.
Mo chatra always bringing the facts, fsg are exactly who I have always thought they are from 2018/19 Iknew what they were .
Waited for this ❤
Great insight, thanks Craig & Mo for bringing the financial side to the forefront about the club.
Thanks for watching and we really appreciate the support
Great interview so informative and balanced... I have been telling people for years I'm not afraid of Man City but our own owners.
It's amazing how docile they have managed to make the majority of the fanbase.
Docile or just enjoying being the best team on planet Earth?
@mikep710 were we the best team on the planet last season or the season before?
There are a lot of us who are VERY happy with what is happening on the pitch but VERY concerned by what is going on off the pitch for the future (hoping to be wrong btw).
A little bit of critical thinking allows for those two views to be held at the same time.
Fantastic video Craig. FSG don't care, I've been saying that for last 10 years. FSG out now..
I think the exact same. Dismantling a quality team to rebuild a team over a long period . It’s ridiculous
There's a pattern forming and I hope I'm wrong but I only foresee mediocre incoming unless we push these owners out
Interesting podcast. Like.
This does need bringing up to the owners that we have people on to them. They will get found out. But by then we have lost top players and not signed anyone that can push us on. Cheers Craig and mo. Brilliant that
Will there be money to spend: yes , will we spend it : doubtful
Appreciate your feedback on the show and thank you for watching
Be more transparent to expose themselves?
I certainly am for a one to two new transfers per year than a overhaul of certain departments every few years for consistency's sake
I dont believe klopp wanted to hold onto players and not sign anyone, I believe the board told him to say that.
Klopp would be contradicting himself saying, it's always healthy to have new faces and then also saying we dont need new signings.
I agree. Here we are with new manager and no signings . Cant ever Imagine fsg pushing for spending
