Scottish guy now in Canada since 94, I'm lucky enough to live on a Lake ant fly fished all my life, so far its only been Bass and Walleye but I do see Pike and Muskie from my dock but can only get them on lures, perhaps this will be my year, great video, very helpful.

I love the fact this keeps it real and ends up like most of my pike fly days, lots of casting without much action.😆 So many videos these days are editied to show fish after fish after fish and that's the reason there is so much second-hand pike fly gear on ebay! People think it's easy but you gotta stay determined in this game...

I used to go windsurfing on Rutland Water and some of the happiest days of my life were spent there. I knew it had pike in it, but if I'd known they grew that big I'm not sure I would have enjoyed it quite so much. Ignorance is bliss.

Tying the fly to imitate an injured fish is a really good idea, will definitely try it in the future.

The holding fish game is strong everywhere now. Arms stretched out hide the fingers. My Dad used to go nuts at me for doing it 😂

Can anyone point me in the right direction in regards to tying the fly directly to the wire instead of using a clip.

Middle of May Pike season opens here in upstate NY and I can't wait. Never got a Pike on fly rod and I'm gunning for one this year. I'm also going for a 50 inch Musky on fly.

Fluocarbon has its uses but not for pike fishing I'd use it when feeder fishing.

We use it all the time in the states. People use it for musky fishing. Though the test strength is usually pretty high. But it's not because somehow 150 pound fluoro is invisible. Certain presentations benefit from the extra flex the flouro gives allowing more action. I don't think it'd matter on normal strip retrieves but for jig flies I could see it helping the action. Or for flies that have tails and jerk side to side on strips.

100% agree on not using fluorocarbon leaders. You don't catch anymore pike using them and I've actually seen a couple of big fish lost to bite offs. Very sensible approach Sir. Good video. Not sure when this was filmed, as when I've been on Rutland this year, water levels are well down, and the fishing has been slow. Probably a knock on from the crazy summer weather. Water temps were still at 14c early November!

Atleast here in the states. We don't use low strength fluorocarbon and we don't use it because it's somehow invisible. It's to give certain presentations more action. Although there's plenty of stories, especially from ice fishing, of people catching large fish on like 6 to 15 pound fluoro
