Loving this. I have two dream cast and wanted to know what I needed to do. It's 2024 and it's time me and my son learn the ways on sega lol. Thanks a million
Fantastic video man, thanks so much for this! Easy to follow and was good to see as I was afraid to take my Dreamcast apart myself without guidance lol
Seems easily enough. I wish I was able to solder. Great job and informative. But by changing the battery I’ll never know when it’s November 1998 again;)
I wish Roxo made a video on how to RGH an Xbox 360, that would be dream since trying to find a good updated video on how to hack an xbox 360 is such a pain in the rear
Hey sorry foe the newb question but what type of solder and flux should i use. Also you mentioned your "desoldering iron" can i use my soldering iron to remove that?
Not newb at all, we all started somewhere! I use either 60/40 or 63/37 solder and No Clean Solder Flux. You can use a soldering iron with desoldering braid to remove old solder. Here's a link where you can see a lot of what I use: www.amazon.com/shop/roxolidproductions/list/HWKDI0NPL97Z?ref_=aip_sf_list_spv_ons_mixed_d amzn.to/3QY82ue amzn.to/45mmq3U
Thanks I'll grab that solder and flux from your links and browse your store page i really appreciate the links. As for the desoldering braid what exactly would I do with it?
@@RoXolid Hey Gary, I know that you recommended someone's video for Wii U "modding" on a GOtG livestream... I took a screenshot of it for future reference, but lost it. Who's video was it again? I want to grab Brain Age DS for both my Wii U's while it's still possible, but I wanted to make sure that's still the game you need first.
I just bought one from a local retro gaming store and found this exact problem. Since I'm bad at soldering, I'll probably just send it in for a mod service.
Well I did it I went on eBay and bought two Dreamcast systems with a few games. At first I thought I was having problems with my controllers. After a few minutes I was able to get past the date screen and it seemed to function. However after seeing this video I may need ideas to replace the battery in my system. I actually purchased two systems off of eBay. I was able to get one working inserted several games etc. It did seem to function OK however after a few minutes of trying with multiple controllers to get the date to be changed. So maybe the battery needed to be charged I don’t know it was an online charity auction so maybe. I don’t know if I need to just have the second consul plugged in longer to test to see if it can recharge whatever battery but do you have any advice on how to let it sit for a while to charge the battery up. If the battery is OK of course. Anyways I am looking forward to hearing from you. To be honest I purchased these to try to resell them. I resell many items both on eBay and in antique mall here in Lakeland Florida where I live. I sell mostly to provide extra funds for childcare and medical costs for my son who was born premature and is considered developmentally delayed. So any help that you can give me would be greatly appreciated. Please forgive any grammatical errors as I was dictating this while trying to figure out what my kids wanted for dinner.
The battery isn't rechargeable, it's a Lithium Button battery. The battery status should not affect the controller performance, so I don't know what's going on there.
@@RoXolid The controllers are all fine after a while for some reason they controllers that I used in the consul started working just fine and I set the date the second cancel that I have is the one that stuck at the change the date screen. Please forgive any grammatical errors as this was dictated
He literally said in the video that you should NOT use a CR2032, as that is NOT a rechargeable battery. Using a non-rechargeable battery will cause that battery to explode. Use the ML2032 as that IS a rechargeable battery.
Everytime I see you or someone else do soldering, I always feel left out. As if it was one of those essential skills I should have learned in high school. While not videogame related, I do have defective logic boards for certain electronics that probably could have been easier solved with a soldering iron and workbench rather than buying identical model motherboards to replace and repair my TV or iPod classic.
Hello I also have a Dreamcast that has a dead battery issue. I cannot do all of that work myself because I don't have the tools nor the experience, and was wondering if I'm able to send you my Dreamcast for you to do the same. If I pay of course🙌
A year ago I would have done it no issue, but now after my Bell's Palsy I can't see very well and would not risk damaging another person's system. I'd recommend checking with Voultar, I cannot recommend his work highly enough.
No it is not a rechargeable battery. It's a 3 volt lithium battery, not lithium polymer or lithium ion if that's what you were thinking. So it's pretty remarkable that these have lived for over 20 years at this point
I don't get why systems are made with hardwired batteries. Would it have been so hard for them to have put in battery holders so they're easy to replace? Maybe they figured no one would ever replace it? 🤔 Easy to get to would've also been nice! Some systems like a PS4 make it hard to get to the battery!

It's one of the easier things you can solder
@@RoXolid Well I got my holder and yeah super easy to solder and now can it not only think, it can remember now.

So strangely, it doesn't hold a charge, it'll work for a day or so, and then it dies. Is it bad soldering, or am I just unlucky?

I put that same ml2032 in my saturn as well. Oups..
