As you mentioned, all the iPhones felt the same, overpriced (at the time) for the same type of phone just newer chip. Then when the lawsuit hit Apple for slowing down older iPhones so that users will upgrade, that was the straw that broke the camel's back. Been a Galaxy fan since and can't wait for the fold 5 to arrive. Welcome to the Samsung family. Will also help your channel diversify itself with other products.

It’s a big stretch to assume that Apple was downgrading batteries to encourage people to buy new phones. That was never established. The mistake they made was not telling people about it, and that’s what got them in hot water.
I don’t believe apples intentions were ever nefarious in nature. But as batteries get older in phones, you can experience unexpected shutdowns when the phone requires a big draw from the battery, and the battery is unable to provide it. Apple was actually trying to make the user experience better. That whole situation was badly blown out of proportion.
For the record, their phones still do the same thing. They throttle down the performance of the phone as batteries get older.

The answer for those with Apple devices looking at an Android phone, is to stay in the Apple ecosystem while also using Google, Microsoft and third party apps to bridge IOS to Android. You don’t need to leave your Apple World. You can keep it, and travel between worlds. I have a Mac, iPad and have had a Samsung Phone for 3 years.
Firstly, back up Samsung photos to Google Photos (or/and OneDrive or other depending on preference). Then sync Apple photos to Google Photos (or/and Outlook). This allows you to access any photo or video taken on any device to be accessed on any device.
In this process, you will choose a back-up cloud service on your Samsung phone, like Google Drive, OneDrive or Other. Add this cloud service to your Apple devices for Syncing.
Secondly, sync Apple calendar to Google Calendar (or/and Outlook). Anything entered on Google calendar on your Samsung phone will automatically show up in Apple Calendar on your Apple devices, and vice-versa. Important if either calendar links to any particular third party productivity apps.
Thirdly, choose a third party email on Samsung phone (GMail, Outlook, other), and you can add these to Apple Email. I don’t use Apple email so this was easy.
Fourth, prefer to use third party apps available on both the Apple Store and Google Playstore, avoiding both apple and Samsung specific apps unless you have favourites for specific device and use cases. This is for Notes, entertainment, productivity, password manager, etc.
Fifth, keep using predominantly iCloud and apple Files, with your additional cloud service when you may need to drag and drop something for access on your Samsung phone. You can drag and drop a file from apple files to Google Drive, which still leaves the original file in apple files unless you additionally drag that original file to Bin.
And finally, allow some time to un-learn what you’ve always been doing so far, to relearn new tricks, relearn that muscle memory… in order to eventually be able to operate cross-platform, no matter what technology throws at you. Stay with Apple, but also enable surprises with Samsung or Google or Other to enter your overall ecosystem, that may come your way😊
Just need to finally add, Samsung Pay is legit on Samsung Phones, and it’s recommended you use it in conjunction with Samsung Pass for security purposes. You can still have Google Pay on some apps, you can still have Apple Pay on Apple devices, it all comes from the cards you enter on whatever device. All have excellent safety. I’ve never had Samsung Pay let me down.

This can also replace your iPad, and potentially even your laptop (when you’re not video editing) with Samsung DeX. AirDrop has a similar feature on Android called NameDrop, and you can also have a workaround with Windows that uses iMessage (don’t know what it’s called but it works, just not all that good IMO). And the S Pen is also useful for the camera feature set (believe it or not, found that out from AlexGear&Tech) - there is so much you can do with this.

@@chris7077 Everything works out of the box no workarounds needed.
And what workarounds are we even talking about? Let's say some feature in Android A device is better than Android B or iPhone there were work arounds.
The reason for no workarounds in apple is because they keep you locked in and tells how to use your device and not how you like the device to be(till today).
Suppose if some feature in Android are good and want to have it in iPhone then only option is to jailbreaking your device(assuming that feature is available).
But Android being open sourced lot of devs do some creative stuff and open source their code and release apks.

Hi Patrick. Great review and insights to your journey. I'm a fan of Alex also and like him I switched from my focus on iPhone to the S23 Ultra. I'm waiting for my Z Fold 5 to show up. I'm everything Apple but I have really loved Android and I'm relegating my iPhone as simply my Apple
Watch Ultra connection and the Z Fold will be my main device. I'm testing Beeper and Sunbird on my S23U currently. I've followed you as well and will enjoy learning about your journey. Hope I can add value along the way.

I found your channel because I‘ve been looking for my first smartwatch and I couldn’t decide which one. Right now I‘m using a Galaxy Note 10+ so it would be dumb not to get an Android smartwatch for it. But I will get a new phone soon and I can’t decide between the upcoming iPhone 15 Pro or the Galaxy S23 Ultra/Fold 5 so it would be dumb to get an Android smartwatch if I decide to get the iPhone and it would be dumb to buy the Apple Watch Ultra if I get the S23/Fold. I‘m not fully in either ecosystem as I use an iPad and a windows laptop.

If Apple allowed iMessage to be used on android, they’d lose 30% of their iPhone users immediately. Add a true Airdrop feature, and a lot of people would look at androids. I use both and really wish I could just use my Fold

I do wish the fold series was a little shorter and a bit wider for the front display. The narrow screen ratio isnt for me. I like the flip 5 but again that display seems a bit to narrow. As someone who always has my tabs8 u and soon to be s9u in there edc bag i dont really need a fold device and my iphone 14pm and s23u are utulize for their purpose. But i can see the functionality for some with the fold series. The flip was cool but then it took up more space in the pocket when folded in half and after awhile i stopped using it because of the fact i had to flip it open for every single use or id just leave it unfolded. The nostalgia wore off quick.

I wasn't an early adopter of the iPhone. I waited till the iPhone 3GS came out (ok it's a chain of a long line of phones). I will give you that Samsung is really at the top of its game when providing "flashy" screens (high res, deep, color saturation, fast refresh rates), new charging methods, and quick shortcuts. Absolutely! Apple is always lingering even when they didn't have the fierce competition that Samsung always provides today. Apple "lurks" when it comes to technology...just peeks and finally comes out with it (maybe even years later). Some say it's "to get it right", others say "soak in the profits", and on. Even Siri is just sooooo tired and old. I think the number one reason that I'll stick with Apple is integration. They do the integration better than anyone. Yes they too have even had "best intentions" go bad..the've had some "stinkers" as far as products. So Apple is far from perfect. I've always thought of the Android operating system as a "tech guru's" wet dream...Highly customizable. So much so that they have distribution problems with their phone OS (highly inconsistent distribution). Eh...To each their own..I'll stick with my iPhone for now.

I really think flip4 was the flip that convinced me that we are good with foldables but still didn't have the confidence in fold 4. However fold 5 is a different story, I felt as assured with fold 5 as I was with flip 4.
