Hurling has the skills of Lacrosse, hockey, baseball.
Half time is 35mins in not 30.
Hurling is a celtic sport with over 3,000yrs of heritage.
It's the fastest game on grass.
    Sliotar is pronounced Slitter.
Coincidentally the game of hockey began as another celtic sport called Shinty.
    It has origins in Scotland.

Hurling is probably the oldest field ball game in the world, dating back somewhere between 2000 and 3000 years, to a time when it was used as a means for preparing warriors for battle. It is thus not derived from any other game, and may be the basis from which most other ball games developed.

•Hurling is the oldest sport on grass
•Ancient celtic warriors used to train for battle by playing Hurling
•Hurling is the fastest game in the world and the Sliotar which (pronounced like "Slither") can travel up to 150km hour
•Helmets only became mandatory in 2010
•Sliotair were originally made out of silver (Now they're made of Cork and Leather)
•Hurling is the most dangerous sport in the world
•Hurling is older than some of the Egyptian pyramids and might actually be older than all of them

  • @gerardflynn3899

Actually it's a maximum of 3 steps while carrying the slitter in your hand.
The game is 70 minutes long
    35 minutes to half time.
The narrator is not Irish but sounds like English.
Hurling was originally used to solve disputes between warring clans in Ireland.
    It is over 3,000yrs old.

But sometimes a game can break out in the middle of a fight...😂
Seriously. It is the fastest most skilful field sport in the world.
The Scotish game of Shinty is similarly fast paced.

Ireland has Gaelic football (governed by the same organisation as hurling), so we're quite happy to call Association football "soccer": no need to apologise.
Hurling is old. It's mentioned in some truly ancient myths. But some of the finer points of the rules (such as exactly how frees are taken, or how substitutions happen) are of course more recent. I wouldn't be surprised if some are inspired by soccer.

No, I wouldn't call it an English sport either, because I'm Irish! You are absolutely correct in saying that this is a really old sport. In fact it goes back some 3,000 years to ancient times when it was a less lethal way of training Irish warriors for war. That means that hurling is likely the oldest field and ball game in ecxistence It is also the fasted and the toughest too.
