Thanks to Bikes and Bloomers and your amazing walkthrough of the welt pocket- I have made three of these delightful “Hobbit” pants! Thank you so much for giving me the confidence to take on these pockets!
I'm picking up the fabric for my (first) pair on Monday, so I'm studying these videos in preparation 😂 I suspect I will make a few more if I like them, for both winter and summer wear. Glad to see I'm not the only one with that thought! Thank you so much, Shannon, for making these videos! They are so inspiring, and your can-do attitude is very catching ❤
I am saving this to my sewing playlist. Welt pockets are so neat but they are so confusing so this is a huge help. Also I'm definitely stealing your 'inside!' patch idea!!!
mmm yes, sometimes I have the mental wherewithal to me-proof my projects at the start. Getting-In-The-Groove Shannon doesn't always check that she's sewing the right things, sometimes...
As I really appreciate these videos and use them as a manual for constructing my own pair (very, very slowly, lol), I just thought I'd mention that you can find the right placement of the pocket piece you used without the use of the other one. I'm lining my pair as the fabric is a cotton wool blend that might be itchy, so I'm only using that piece as well. If you look closely at the paper pattern piece, there's a line marked Welt Pocket close to the light grey line where two papers of the pattern meet. This is the cut line of the welt pocket, and by lining this up with the cut line on the main fabric it will be positioned correctly.
So I'm rewatching this for the third time before even contemplating welt pockets for my skirt. Because why search for a tutorial from professionals when you already have a video from a costuber😉
I have my fabric all marked - you sewed the welt on from the outside then pulled it through to the inside, I think? So I need to remark my pockets on the outside of the bloomers first.

Yay, thank you! Glad it was helpful!

@@ShannonMakes Who doesn't love picking seams, tho? 😫
*joking*
I try to remember to mark my insides with marker
@@rd6203 Also smart, I just don't have a fabric-approved marker!
Thanks for the in-depth explanation of these great looking pockets.

This is so helpful thank you!! Definitely adding this to a playlist for future projects!
I Googled and found these. 9459 Simplicity. 5964 Butterick. They are from the 1970s and look exactly like your bloomers.
Thank you for sharing
My pleasure! Thanks for watching!!

There are others too - Noelle from Costuming Drama really like Nikki LeeAm's welt method/ video! (also... You Can Do It!)
This is really helpful, thank you! ✨
Thanks!
You bet! Glad you found it (at least somewhat) helpful!

Yup, most (if not all??) welts are sewn on from the front and pulled through, so remark the pockets on the outside :-D
Sorry - also, did you sew the pocket bag through the wool as well, or just through the lining? (I may be a bonehead - bare with me 😛).
No, the pocket bag was only sew in the lining, no stitches passed through the outer wool layer!
