Yup but they ruined his character in the last Jedi and rise of skywalker. They should have had kept reg with kylo and make Finn have more hate towards kylo because of that, learn the Jedi way and rescue rey from the dark side and together they can save kylo from Palatine / snoke
I think it still works better if Finn has a rivalry with Phasma And Rey having a rivalry with Kylo ren Becuase rey and kylo ren are the Vader and luke of the trilogy while It makes more sense finn has a rivalry with phasma Becuase she is was his commanding officer and she's the one who brainwashes the other stormtroopers
@@youssefmesrati340 I meant that they could have built off the initial Kylo and Finn interaction without ever bringing Phasma into the picture. Snoke or even Palpatine could have been Rey's antagonist
@@mphoramathe1801 ya but how every trilogy in star wars, is that one of the heros have a rivalry with the main villain's servant , so it's like having palpatine being luke's antagonist or obi wan's antagonist
I agree. The idea of a lowly stormtrooper actually defecting from the ranks, and becoming a hero of the story, was intriguing to me. I thought it was a great idea for the story, and was anxious to see him progress. Then the other 2 "movies" came out.
Not me. it was & is kinda lame.. ~It already happened & in a really cool way. THE BARON SONTIR FEL... He was a regular lowly Tie Pilot and rose all the way to the EMpire most ELite.. I can't remember the game because theres another imperial pilot(game) where the pilot was even force sensitive & that pilot went on to become one of Plapatines inner force circle dudes.. His name was Marik iirc.(not the force unleashed dude) The Barons son Jagged became married to Lukes Neice/Leia's Daughter AKA 'The Sword of the Jedi' (shes so bad ass) And Jagged & Jaina became the Emperor of The Empire in the future. And thanks to Jaina= they all have Force sensitivity and Vaders bloodline...That Empire has 'Imperial Knights' WHo are Grey Jedi who serve the emperor not the Will of the force. They are usually good guys but wont hesitate to kill Jedi & they hunt Sith.. The Legends books were really good... Anyone who feels let down by Disney would get the story they deserve with the books..... Start W/ Courtship of Princess Leia..Its a movie worthy book & introduces the NIghtsisters origin & the connection to Yoda himself and the Dark Robot Troopers... There's about 8 books that all take place in the 3 months after battle of Endor....
my thoughts exactly, force awakens was probably a 7/10 pillar for a trilogy, in my opinion, but the next movies had to 'subvert' expectations so bad it contradicted the whole narrative they had at the start.
Yes! Even without storywise profit it makes practical sense: this can give him cool and memorable depiction! So sad every rebel unit look so blank and boring - instead of stylish uniform (just like their original trylogy counterpart do) they wear usual clothes... even main characters do! No wonder toys perform SO badly.
Finn could have been the canon Kyle Katarn a former stormtrooper turn Jedi but Disney screwed up so badly couldn’t gave him distant character arc but left with a token black character.
@@RaikenXion youre black, of course you want to see more blsck characters. Doesnt mean that white or asian people want to. Incidentally, black panther made more money in the u.s. than everywhere else in the world combined
Yeah and in china. The biggest box office in the world, black panter has his mask on to hide his face and in force awakens finn is made super small on the chinese poster. Wouldnt suprie me if the original plan was to make finn the jedi but disney got scared of the chinese movie rules
I would've loved a story where the "chosen one" is someone who worked as a foot soldier for the enemy their entire life until he finally realized that what he's fighting for isn't order and peace across the galaxy, but rather subjugation and rule. Heck, the title 'Traitor to the Empiry but the Hero for the New Republic" is a banger.
And to pour salt on the wound, it was even confirmed that he is canonically force sensitive, and that that's what he wanted to tell Rey during the whole Rise of Skywalker movie.
Well one good thing about that i guess is, IF this Rey movie comes out and absolutely BOMBS at the box-office, maybe in some years to come, they could make a movie all about Finn, Choosing to follow his Destiny as a Force Sensitive, Ex-Stormtrooper. 😊
@RaikenXion it be nice if rey died and then finn became the last jedi because the main character dies at some point in star wars and moves on the a different one and finn is just a better character than rey They could kill her off tho since everyone Hates her but also I found out the rey movies were aimed for women that's why kylo has his shirt of for no reasons alot
@@KingFateThe1st Yes that's true, Ruin Johnson made that scene to please the reylos get them all moist lol. then Kennedy ordered JJ to have Kylo killed off, because she believes the women don't need a man in their life lol. I agree though, i'd luv them to just make it about Finn, he is a way more interesting character than Rey. He was brave, willing to give his life for his friends and even the Resistance, he had flaws, he got his ass beat a few times. And John Boyega brought alot of charisma and energy to the role; well, with what little he was given by the stupid hack writers. I can't see them ever doing it though, Disney is too lost in their wokeness now.
@RaikenXion ye finn was gonna become the main character but they wanted it to be targeted to women (I got told that idk if its true) but finn was my favourite also kylo was when I was younger when it came out but then I relized that kylo was a cry baby who hates stuff by breaking stuff when he loses and they made finn scream ray alot but I liked it if they made a new movie and finn is the main character and he wakes up saying something to luke like he just had a nightmare about a girl called Ray and all he did was scream ray then luke goes don't worry she died a long time ago also kylo isn't a vader wanna be he's actually feared The only reason I liked it was because of finn but that was when it came out and I was 5-6 so I didn't rlly know much about all the stuff like woke and racism and other Stuff so I liked finn but still hated ray
I think the craziest part of this is that the first scenes in Force Awakens has Finn as the main focus. The fact that they suddenly pivoted to Rey despite the fact that we’ve been following Finn just makes no sense to me.
The tease is what annoyed me and made it all look worse. But i think they still had plans for his character until he was vocal about not liking the direction. Or maybe they didnt.
it's funny because disney had the message of "jedi can come from everywhere" while also pulling the middle finger especially to finn on that regard lmao
I was so invested in this trilogy, It had so much potential (I liked the first movie). 1. Finn was clearly "The Force Awakening". The very fist scene of the village exuction implied that, he broke his brainwashed conditioning and refused to kill any one. Then right after that Kylo checked him... HARD, Kylo even looked up his # like he was the ops! You already mentioned the imagery of using the lightsaber, not once but twice did he use it. 2. After the fist movie Finn was literally pushed to the sideline and does JACK. 3. By the end of the trilogy Finn should have been a new gen Jedi/ revolutionary leader, and Rey should have been either a full on darkside user or a grey jedi. 4. I agree Fin and Ray should have been the main ship. I thought that was the intention? 5. F Rose and F rise of skywalker
I never even watched the final movie. Even the highlights are lame.. Finn & Rose sum up the whole trilogy for pretty much everyone i know IRL who is a SW fan..
Even the first trailer implied that Finn was the “force awakening”. It opened with the line “There’s been an awakening. Have you felt it?” And then cut to Finn waking up from the crash in the desert. Everything about the trailers made it seem like he was the main character, it was really disappointing when he got reduced to a subplot.
What I think would’ve been really cool is for the last Jedi they could’ve gone down the route where Ray becomes a fallen Jedi, putting Ray and Finn against each other and having Finn become a Jedi
YES YES YES!!!.... and with Finn's background of being a stormtrooper who did terrible things and was able to leave that behind him would make a compelling story of Finn trying to redeem Rey only using lethal action as a last resort?.
Yes that would have been a really cool idea and original and interesting, but Hollywood would never do something like that, not with how they keep putting EVERY female character on a pedestal in ALL Movies now.
I personally wanted Rey to follow her gpa and kylo redeeming himself and following the skywalker foot steps and idolizing his grandpa and stuff redeeming him to keep it interesting instead they did what they did and “Rey skywalker “ like GTFO
@@thecatfather857 Yes. The intent was that there were a ton of things this second movie was going to bring to the screen. Then Rian Johnson took all "rumors" and plot points making a movie that debunked ALL of them. Almost to the point where people talked to the screen/audience.
I'm still mad that they did my boy Finn dirty! They were hyping him up as the first black stormtrooper turned Jedi, just so they can have him scream Reeeeey throughout the entire trilogy! 😭
I dont understand how they can mess up such an easy concept. They chose to go with some weird convoluted Rey-Palpatine family line for no reason. This is exactly like what happened with the Netflix Yasuke anime. All they had to do was go with a simple semi historically accurate action movie about his life but instead they over complicated it with magic and mechs.
Yeah, and the rey Palpatine thing makes zero sense, emperor Palpatine was never mentioned to have descendents of even romantic relationships, it was an asspull that allowed Disney to make this random junk collector not only the main character, but somehow one of the strongest force users we've ever seen in what, a few months? Years? When younglings alone trained for years under trained Jedi, and padawans trained for years under knights and masters, but somehow this random girl, who, has NEVER used the force, and has zero force/ lightsaber training, is somehow pulling off jedi master level feats, pulling down ships, using force lightning, and BATTLE MEDITATION?! At least, that's what it seems like, but battle MEDITATION was an extremely rare ability at the height of the Jedi order, and it took most Jedi decades to even be able to use it properly, let alone master it, it took rey what? Months!? Posses Mr off so much.
Plus the fact that they literally *admitted* that he had a connection to the force in the final film, and that snoke and kylo were sensing him all along meant that him not becoming a jedi was infinitely more disappointing.
Disney didn't want a black guy as main character and also the fan base was in raged when the trailer came out too. All he did was chasing Rey who didn't want him. Shit was sad.
They did it on purpose, they always intended Finn to be a token character, their focus was ALWAYS on Rey, the Female because of Intersectional Feminism.
Disney didn't want a black guy as a main character? Knowing today's Disney and their obsession with their teams and casts meeting quotas for POCs, that doesn't make much sense to me.
@@mustardeater5162 Well the REAL TRUTH here is Disney don't want actual well written Black Male Characters, that depict black people in a positive light, where they are not stereotyped. Disney are very happy to put Black people in shows and movies as long as they're portrayed as either tokens, or stereotypes, or in "slave struggle movies". The only time Disney has EVER portrayed Black Men as truly "Heroic", Honest, righteous and inspirational, in a truly positive way was in 2018's Black Panther movie. That's purely why that movie became such a Cultural Phenomenon for Black People and everyone else loved it too. And Disney made a sh*t pot full of $$$$$ from that first movie. Yet have you ever saw Disney do this same thing again?? Do you see Disney making more and more movies that are written, produced and directed by Black People? Do you see them casting Black people as leads in purely original movies? No, they've never done that since, instead they just keep choosing to cast Black people as PoCs, for DEI woke nonsense agenda. And everyone just sees through it. Why do you think the Mulan movie failed in China? Because Mulan is purely CHINESE MYTHOLOGY it's meant to be their story to be told. Yet Disney made sure it was Disneyfied, it may have had a purely Chinese cast in the live action adap, but look up who actually wrote the Disney Mulan movie. Disney keep "pandering" it's all they do, they're NOT Genuine about being truly "Diverse".
@@mustardeater5162 Being truly "Diverse" and Representative in *Entertainment* is NOT about casting some black people here and some asian people there to fill quotas and satisfy DEI doctrine on a spreadsheet. It's about actually allowing "Black People/Asian People" to tell their OWN stories in film and tv shows. And by that i mean actually allowing Ethnic writers/producers/directors to make original stories, either about their own History and Mythologies from their cultures, OR just allowing them to tell cool and interesting original stories. That's what natural "Progressivism" is all about. That's when you're genuine about Diversity. You don't need to eve keep mentioning the word itself. Just do it, let people share their culture of WHO they are, where they come from. It's specifically why movies like Black Panther & Encanto were so successful. They're simply NOT WOKE! Alot of young people especially get the word "woke" mixed up, they think being woke is being diverse, and "Inclusive" but it's really not, it's disingenuous. Anyway more and more people in the mainstream today are waking up and realizing how Disney are simply not genuine when it comes to all this "Diversity". People are starting to see through Disney and all this DEI lies.
Modern star wars (Andor aside) just can't stop demolishing the concept of stormtroopers more and more. They run TOWARDS lightsabers while they themselves have ranged weapons (Sequels, Kenobi, Ahsoka, Mando, etc), they show no signs of clear thinking, no actual tactical movements, and are typically the punchlines of jokes. Consequently stormtroopers aren't the feared elite troops we were first told about. Instead they're LESS than cannon fodder, only there to be something for the hero to effortlessly cut through or to laugh at. Unfortunately Finn ended up being part of that, too. As a former stormtrooper he SHOULD have been focused & disciplined. As a First Order member he would have been radicalized, but then to have deserted he would have an extreme case of questioning himself and what he stands for until that becomes his new focus and direction. Instead he just becomes "Ray's buddy", a middle school romantic fling for Rose, and the back end of jokes.
They built him up, from literally being the main character at the start of the prequels, to being originally being a storm trooper turned good, to being the one that was given map to skywalker, everything pointed to him being a Jedi, help, I would have been fine if both he and rey were Jedi, but he was set up to be the perfect character to become a Jedi, and they just had him fade into the background, it's such a dumb decision.
Finn didn't even need to be a Jedi, if they just made him a relevant character it would be enough, but for the love of GOD, they just had to throw him aside. As you say, I don't even know what he did for the whole of the ninth movie.
Nahhh... With that campaign they ran to get all those black butts in the seats.....naahh..naahhh....he needed to be a Jedi. No bones in the yard to appease the dogs barking... A JEDI.
I was desperately hoping that Finn was going to be inspired by Kyle Katarn, since Kyle was a stormtrooper who became a Jedi. Such a wasted opportunity.
The ultimate head Canon clash, battle of the fan favourite characters that never really got their moment to shine, both with near limitless story potential, driven to the sidelines.
I honestly would have went to the theatres if Finn was the protag cause he’s ten times more interesting than Rey. I mean a Trooper becoming a Jedi?! That sounds like a story worth my money.
Finn got destroyed only because Disney was appealing to China. Which is why each movie his presence got smaller even on the posters if you check the Chinese ones. Also Rose is terrible. Does the Starwars universe have roses?
Nah. They appealed to the same thing; the underdeveloped, undefeated, invasive feelings of white dudes. It is always like this even the crying about woke and women are the cries of white dudes. Finn should have been more and he and Rey could’ve had more stories of struggling and overcoming the challenges. Rose’s point was to kill any Rey Finn potential love relationship and might be smooching that was hinted to. They made Finn thirsty. All of the characters were written poorly in my opinion and deserved better than they got.
@@kevinmckelvy3358 That's a lie & is prejudice also you do know that it was "White dudes" Like George Lucas and Stan Lee that Female & black Characters exist Right??.
The Stormtrooper that Finn fought was actually a member of his former Squad. Which is why he blatantly yelled Traitor to get Finn's attention and to square up with him.
Yes i wanted that too, because Hollywood ALWAYS shy away from Interracial Relationships, they are okay with showing a Black Woman with a White Man in movies, but NEVER a Black Man in a love relationship with a White Woman. This is why Hollywood and all this "Diversity/Inclusion" thing is really just lies, especially when they say they want modern movies and tv shows to reflect "Modern Society" as it is today.
For my sequel rewrite Im gonna make Finn goe from a stormtrooper to a jedi master, even tho in my version he won't be the main protagonist he will be a verg very important character he will help Rey create a new jedi order
Facts, I 1,000,000 percent agree with everything you said and I’m still to this day mad at Disney for not turning Finn into a Jedi, the main Jedi, the main protagonist of the whole sequel trilogy, for ruining Luke’s character (though I’m happy The Mandalorian did Luke’s character justice), and for not making Finn and Rey a couple. On top of everything you said and on top of Finn and Rey both Jedis and them being a couple, they also easily could’ve made Rey be like a former student of Luke and actually have history with and be a former friend of Kylo Ren/Ben which honestly would’ve made Rey using the force in Force Awakens way more sense along with fact that Luke’s introduction in the Force Awakens should’ve been during the final battle against Kylo which would’ve been way more hype, way better, and would’ve been better if Rey in Force Awakens actually lost to Kylo and nearly escaped with Finn and Luke with Luke saving both Finn and Rey and taking them somewhere to train leading to an even better ending for Force Awakens, way better opportunities and a better story for the rest of the sequel trilogy, and leading to Finn finally doing his Jedi training under Luke and training with Rey.
Pretty much had the same thoughts myself since Force Awakens. They clearly tease that Finn is force sensitive, he has the lightsaber almost the whole movie and then Last Jedi is "who was force sensitive?" Rise of Skywalker for Finn is pretty much he's there, oh and you forgot "Rey, I have to tell you something" and it never comes back. They had an interesting setup for the characters by the end of Force Awakens but absolutely dropped the ball.
My recollection back then was that fans were screaming to high heaven for Finn not to be Jedi, in their view it would be "forced." I resigned myself to just being hopeful about Rey's development and was hoping her depiction would somehow reference Bastila, considering the imagery of the movie poster, which seemed like it was teasing a yellow double saber. I can't say I expected what we actually got.
I remember even in the theater when Rey pulled the lightsaber at the end of The Force Awakens, everybody thought it was Luke and then was immediately disappointed and all like "yo, wtf is this coming out of ABSOLUTELY NOWHERE?"
My take: Kylo and Phasma should represent the physical and mental parts of Finn's journey to become a Jedi. The mental portion being Finn undergoing extreme brainwashing when he was first inducted into the First Order. Since he's force sensitive it weakened over time ,but it's still there. Phasma has a series of trigger words to prevent stormtroopers from deserting. Kind of like hypnotic suggestion. Realizing he could be a danger to his friends, Finn leaves the Resistance to find a way to break the hypnosis. The physical portion is Finn recuperating after the first fight and training for their inevitable rematch. The rematch ends the same as the first, but Kylo loses an arm in the process. Their final confrontation would be the most anticipated moment of the trilogy. It should be the same level or above the Anakin vs Obi-Wan fight from RotS. Finn wins ,but he spares Kylo as he tells him he still sees good in him and that it's never too late to make things right. Thanks for listening to my pointless rant!
Really good analysis yeh Finn was such wasted potential, i think JJ and Rian just treated him like a token character, just there on the surface to make their movies look "diverse". One of the most sly things both JJ & Rian did though, was put the ethnic side-character "Rose" in a ugly AF, bogey colored engineering suit in TLJ. And deliberately put Finn on the TFA promo posters holding the Blue Skywalker lightsaber, only to subvert that. Because i'm black mixed race myself, and i remember walking through the long corridor heading to my screen to go in and watch TFA, and seeing those posters of Finn holding the lightsaber horizontal across the poster, and feeling like good, thinking wow are Disney going to make him the first like Black main lead "Jedi" type character? Maybe times really are changing and things are becoming Diverse. So yeh that really hurt seeing that not be the case in the movie, i don't have an issue it being Rey, but i would have just rathered JJ not elude to or tease that at all then. Like dangling it in my face when we all know Black Male characters don't often get to really shine as the main, brave hero of a movie or story. Well, atleast we got 2018's Black Panther. Disney deserve all this backlash they've got now. The sequels will always be viewed as *Divisive* they will never escape that.
Finn should've been the main character. The only thing I enjoyed about that trilogy was that finn and poe felt genuinely happy to see each other when they'd meet up again, almost like they were actually friends off set. Which is more than we got out of the rest of the cast. Han, Leia, and luke were just old and sad. Crappy writing demands character assassinations of the originals so that the "new and improved" characters can shine, like Rey marysuewalker.
Fully agree with everything you said but I had an idea about Luke when you mentioned him at the end. I hate how they basically butchered his character by making him almost kill Kylo, but I think they could do one thing to make everyone happy. Basically bring Lumiya in from legends and have her influence like over time, maybe for 10 years or so, she’s just in the background breaking down Luke’s mental state slowly through the dark side. Doesn’t make much sense but it’s probably the most they’ll be able to redeem his character
When I went to see Rise of Skywalker in theatres I genuinely had no idea what was going on even with the knowledge of prior movies. I didn't like it, I didn't hate it but I certainly didn't enjoy it, so to speak. Just left with a feeling of confusion and tonal whiplash. I burst out laughing when Kylo became a Force Ghost after kissing Rey, it caught me completely off guard. I didn't even find that moment funny
Finn should have been the main character. Keep Ray as a Jedi in training waiting for her master to come back who turns out to be Ashoka. Make the bad guy not a new empire, but a rising criminal syndicate. Led by Darth Maul.
@@ceruleanwalker1069 yeah but he always had a sort of rivalry with obi wan so I think it’s good he went out to him. Tbh I’m more mad about Savage’s death
@trent7258 I get that. Me too, I liked Savage and it was rough watching the emperor kill him. I agree they had a good rivalry, but I like seeing Maul beyond his hatred of kenobi. Plus, I found his scenes with Ashoka much more interesting. Especially when he takes out everyone on a Starr destroyer with no lightsaber.
@@ceruleanwalker1069 yeah. I can get why you feel that way he was pretty badass during that. Tbh I would like more development for him between the end of the clone wars and the start of rebels. It would be really cool and might clue us in on how and why he became a crime boss
2:21, Finn arguably had the most interesting initial characterization out of every new character featured in the Sequel Trilogy solely because his character concept of a Stormtrooper deserter wasn’t made to resemble a pre-established character, unlike characters like Rey, who is designed to resemble Luke or Anakin (a Force-sensitive from a desert world thrust into a life of adventure and strife that challenges their sense of identity and morality), or Poe Dameron, who is made to resemble Han Solo (a hyper-competent, witty and brash, pilot and high ranking agent of an insurgence with a criminal past). The closest comparison he has to characters from Star Wars films past are the Jedi and the Clones, raised since birth and indoctrinated to be an asset to a larger organization. In terms of the films, it was a new and genuinely fresh idea that gave the character a lot of potential going forward (and that Colin Trevorrow’s unused script would have culminated in Finn leading a rebellion of Stormtroopers against the First Order, which wouldn’t have even required him being revealed to be a Force-sensitive to work, as him being a regular person like other Stormtroopers would have made their defiance of the First Order more narratively impactful) only for it to be squandered on a weaker, more mediocre story instead.
I can remember sitting in the theater at the beginning when they had him drinking out of that space pig trough and feeling my stomach drop. I was just like...."oh no.". I didn't want to believe it at that point but I had a feeling we were bamboozled.
I mean a strom trooper (literally the weakest enemies on the board) slowly becoming a jedi(The strongest piece on the board) is just obvious good storytelling so of course they never thought of it.
Maybe the sequel trilogy could have been better if Finn became a Jedi. This could have a much better story of Finn trying master the Force and redeem himself for all of his past mistakes. The sequel trilogy could have had a much better story of redemption and moving on from past guilt. As for Rey, maybe she could be a Jedi, but more of the whole trying to preserve ancient Jedi Knowledge which had been lost over the years and teach the newer generations on what to do to prevent another downfall.
I agree with you Finn is my favorite and I think he should have been a Jedi but there is a Rey movie coming out and Finn is Force sensitive. The actor of him John Boyega I’m pretty sure said he’s open to come back to Star Wars so hopefully he is a Jedi in the Rey movie if he will be in it.
It weird, this is why. 1) Finn didn’t have to be a Jedi he and Rey could have fallen in love❤. Or great buddy team up. Or Force Dyad. Or Something??? It was like they were to racist or scared or “we can’t have any of that powerful black male ala BLADE” 🤨 This was made worse with the forced Rose on him then the girl with the same skin color on him. So this proves it! 2) Rey in love with the bad guy trope???? WTF 3) Captain Phasma wasted op. 4) Poe wasted op 5) No reunion of Han, Leia, Luke, Lando, Chewie 🥺😢 Half the movie could have been that and I would have been soo happy. Those actors on screen could have carried this weak script. So you are correct! Just had to get that off my chest!
The fact Disney themselves removed Finn from TFA poster in some Asian countries enraged me. He was the jedi I always wanted and John Boyega deserved to be a Jedi with a green lightsaber. I want that so bad however I don't think he would be willing to be involved in Star Wars now... I don't blame him.
They could have even gone into a more sympathetic view on storm troopers and fin not wanting to kill his stormtrooper brothers he grew up with but instead he just kills stormtroopers without even thinking about it. That whole internal battle would have been really interesting but no, stormtroopers just went back to the old stormtroopers we are used to, just mindless goons who we are not meant to care about.
Finn as the protagonist would have been great they would establish how badly Kylo Ren treated him and how he was discarded and seen as defective to him breaking free from Empirical Propaganda and becoming confident in his own abilities then learning he is forced to sensitivity becoming a Jedi and a rival to Kylo Ren it would be so rewarding to see Finn and Kylo’s relationship start as a power imbalance of Kylo constantly mistreating Finn to them being rivals and if they wanna do a redemption arc for Kylo they could be equals
Finn and Rey romance would’ve been far more believable than forcing Kylo and Rose into the picture. Big misses…. Ruin Johnson really, royally sabotaged the entire story narrative of the sequels and prequels in one movie! People with obsessive agendas are so because they lack something more important that intelligence which is “imagination” according to Albert Einstein.
Finn should have been a serious, dangerous storm trooper, who had a conscience. He didn’t need to be a Jedi, just a competent soldier. He should have been stoic and kind of ruthless, with the other characters telling him to tone it down.
They bait and switched us. They knew what was up. The previews showed him wielding the lightsaber. In those trailers they literally show him more than Rey. Yes there was backlash but if they would’ve did it correctly, no one would’ve cared. It still would’ve done great.
I was surly excited from the ads before the movie dropped that John Boyega was possibly going to be a Jedi….nope. The second movie I hoped that Luke would train both of them and get them ready for a final showdown with Kylo and/or Snoke. But nah, they killed Snoke without explaining ANYTHING about him from jump street, benched Finn and added parts of Shadow of the Empire that made no sense. We didn’t even get as much as the Solo twins story arc. Why would Leia and Han name their son Ben? I know lot of fans disliked the Kenobi series, but it DID fix the whole Ben Solo thing by showing a connection between Obi-Wan and young Leia. I have a long list of gripes about the sequel trilogy but I will stop at just saying that there was much waisted opportunity in storytelling and feel like Kathleen Kennedy just wanted to completely end the saga for whatever reason she had. At this point I’m just happy to get something for now because her and her squad tried to dead it for good.
Even tho i dislike the sequels, I do have to admit that Finn was one of the best parts yet also the biggest missed opportunity. Something I always didn’t liked about the sequels is that they try to be similar in being like the originals, you know, only one Jedi main protagonist, only two siths, and the first order taken over again. like, something I always hoped to see is, after the prequel era with more Jedi’s than siths , the original era with less Jedi and the Sith taken over. Maybe the sequels could have sort of a balance, having a few more Jedi protagonists and more darkside antagonists. And Finn would had made some things a bit different in having two jedi main protagonists than just one (again)
I want to say it's possible they didn't go the Finn route because they wanted to appease the Chinese audience,as you know Finn wasn't in the poster in the Chinese version.
We know a couple of things. 1). "Female, Scavenger, Jedi" became a top-down mandate for the film before Kasdan and Abrams began their work on a script 2) for various reasons the creation of the screenplay (for TFA) was rushed... to the point they were working on it and rewriting key sections during principal photography. 3) there was serious indecision/lack of commitment on Rey's fundamental character concept. "Forensically" - I think this lead Abrams and Kasdan (on purpose... or more likely on accident) to create a narrative, events, and scenes that are best driven by a 'defector stormtrooper' yet centered on a character for which they had no definitive plan or information. Finn as a character concept was ready to be at the heart of a functional story; Rey was not. So what you have is that nearly every single aspect of TFA, as a screenplay (structure, narrative, character work) makes more sense; is more functional if the main protagonist is the ex-stormtrooper. To be reductive it's like Rey was photoshopped in. While Finn is organically connected to the story and the primary conflict. They worked with what they had and around what they were missing -- so the first leg of this trilogy is a film about one character yet starring another. The dedicated, enduring ambiguity on the 'main protag' and then the primary conflict/antagonism being informed/ tailored by a secondary character (that they were willing to background entirely) cascades all the way down the line. I believe the ST was killed by some really bad core decisions (by non creatives) before TFA ever got underway, and at best this trilogy was always going to be a salvage job ... sadly they only ever compounded their errors. Tragic for Star Wars.
Rey should have struggled with being drawn to the dark side and inevitably succumb. She started off and continued to be quite selfish and power motivated. Finn would have been the perfect counterpart, perhaps he found a way to hide his force sensitivity from the first order not wanting to be a with and when he finally got the chance. He escaped and become a jedi
Fin and Rey should have been trained by Liea at Liea's temple if I was writing it would have been like the old channel 12 Sunday martial arts shows they both meet up they hound Leia to train them then she sends them out to save her son and bring him back to the light side
This sequel trilogy gets a -6/10 from me, would not of done as much damage to the franchise if just didn’t exist in the first place, but if they just followed the finn being a storm trooper turned jedi plot then it would’ve been really good
I can see it now. Though Finn despises his role as a trooper, it's the only thing he knows. Even as he wields the youngling exterminator, he still clings to a blaster until (through Luke's guidance) he let's go of the past and embraces to force. DAMN I'M GOOD!!!
They used Finn to keep us excited about a hopeful story cuz even at the end he was kinda still the main camera person because of his story 😭😭 yea they should’ve jus made him a Jedi fr 😭😭😭🤦🏾♂️ they could’ve easily kept the movies going with him and Rey being Jedi together
100% facts, no lies told. This put me in tears, for multiple reasons. Thanks for fixing it. Disney should be beyond ashamed. In fact we as fans deserve a do over done right.
The potential was there. Like, right there. A stormtrooper who develops a conscience and decides to rebel and will have to choose between saving his own life and new freedom or dedicating himself to others. You have to try to waste that. And they did. Boy they did.
Finn had a potential rivalry with Kylo before Phasma was even introduced
Yup but they ruined his character in the last Jedi and rise of skywalker.
They should have had kept reg with kylo and make Finn have more hate towards kylo because of that, learn the Jedi way and rescue rey from the dark side and together they can save kylo from Palatine / snoke
I think it still works better if Finn has a rivalry with Phasma
And Rey having a rivalry with Kylo ren
Becuase rey and kylo ren are the Vader and luke of the trilogy while It makes more sense finn has a rivalry with phasma Becuase she is was his commanding officer and she's the one who brainwashes the other stormtroopers
Yup. When Kylo sensed Finn I felt a tingle in my plums 😂
I agree. The idea of a lowly stormtrooper actually defecting from the ranks, and becoming a hero of the story, was intriguing to me. I thought it was a great idea for the story, and was anxious to see him progress.
Then the other 2 "movies" came out.

inner force circle dudes.. His name was Marik iirc.(not the force unleashed dude)
The Barons son Jagged became married to Lukes Neice/Leia's Daughter
AKA 'The Sword of the Jedi' (shes so bad ass)
And Jagged & Jaina became the Emperor of The Empire in the future.
And thanks to Jaina= they all have Force sensitivity
and Vaders bloodline...That Empire has 'Imperial Knights'
WHo are Grey Jedi who serve the emperor not the Will of the force.
They are usually good guys but wont hesitate to kill Jedi & they hunt Sith..
The Legends books were really good... Anyone who feels let down by Disney would
get the story they deserve with the books.....

@@ashcrash1057 Disney is a bunch of cowards.
@RaikenXion it be nice if rey died and then finn became the last jedi because the main character dies at some point in star wars and moves on the a different one and finn is just a better character than rey
They could kill her off tho since everyone Hates her but also I found out the rey movies were aimed for women that's why kylo has his shirt of for no reasons alot
And they do nothing with it.
@RaikenXion ye finn was gonna become the main character but they wanted it to be targeted to women (I got told that idk if its true) but finn was my favourite also kylo was when I was younger when it came out but then I relized that kylo was a cry baby who hates stuff by breaking stuff when he loses and they made finn scream ray alot but I liked it if they made a new movie and finn is the main character and he wakes up saying something to luke like he just had a nightmare about a girl called Ray and all he did was scream ray then luke goes don't worry she died a long time ago also kylo isn't a vader wanna be he's actually feared
The only reason I liked it was because of finn but that was when it came out and I was 5-6 so I didn't rlly know much about all the stuff like woke and racism and other Stuff so I liked finn but still hated ray

Why is this so true I hate the current state of Disney
Or they both trained by luke to defeat kaylo ren would have been excellent
I never even watched the final movie. Even the highlights are lame..
Finn & Rose sum up the whole trilogy for pretty much everyone i

@@hawkstringfellow and they could have made a history between Luke & Snoke and have them battle eachother at the sametime.
@@hawkstringfellow This is what I thought would happen when I saw the first movie.
Now that's something I could get behind if they have been training together and have a romantic subplot so its a lovers to enemies plot.

Like how GoT finished with a multiple subversion of expected -epic- good ending...
Dude, Windu’s one of my favorite Jedis. 😩
I'm still mad that they did my boy Finn dirty! They were hyping him up as the first black stormtrooper turned Jedi, just so they can have him scream Reeeeey throughout the entire trilogy! 😭
I’d argue that Finn & Poe had more chemistry than any Sequel duo
Seeing a green lightsaber on the big screen is all I was asking for back then
Lego Star Wars Holiday Special -- Finn gets his props.

@@RaikenXionheavily agree bro

A Stormtrooper Becoming A Jedi.
Had A GOOD POTENTIAL
They clearly tease that Finn is force sensitive, he has the lightsaber almost the whole movie and then Last Jedi is "who was force sensitive?"
Rise of Skywalker for Finn is pretty much he's there, oh and you forgot "Rey, I have to tell you something" and it never comes back.
They had an interesting setup for the characters by the end of Force Awakens but absolutely dropped the ball.
My recollection back then was that fans were screaming to high heaven for Finn not to be Jedi, in their view it would be "forced."
I resigned myself to just being hopeful about Rey's development and was hoping her depiction would somehow reference Bastila, considering the imagery of the movie poster, which seemed like it was teasing a yellow double saber. I can't say I expected what we actually got.
They made Finn into Janitor!!! Why not a gunner or some specialist whose skill would’ve been helpful to the Resistance?
Bro When Kylo stopped to stare at Finn, I thought it was because Finn was Force sensitive.
The sequels will always be viewed as *Divisive* they will never escape that.
this was fire bro you deserve more than 2.1k views
Finn should've been the main character. The only thing I enjoyed about that trilogy was that finn and poe felt genuinely happy to see each other when they'd meet up again, almost like they were actually friends off set. Which is more than we got out of the rest of the cast. Han, Leia, and luke were just old and sad. Crappy writing demands character assassinations of the originals so that the "new and improved" characters can shine, like Rey marysuewalker.
I could imagine him in a relationship with Ray where he tries to help her cope with being in an abusive relationship with kylo.

Ngl when I watched 9 I had an epiphany during the screening that Finn should’ve been the main character. What a wasted opportunity.
Finn should have been the main character. Keep Ray as a Jedi in training waiting for her master to come back who turns out to be Ashoka. Make the bad guy not a new empire, but a rising criminal syndicate. Led by Darth Maul.
That could be good but Darth maul is dead by that time.
@trent7258 I know. Real shame, isn't it? The final confrontation between him and obi wan was good, but it felt like a waste to kill him there.

It would've been so hype if we had a Stormtrooper turned Jedi. That shit could've been amazing.
I loved the thought of a stormtrooper becoming a Jedi.

WTF
3) Captain Phasma wasted op.
4) Poe wasted op
5) No reunion of Han, Leia, Luke, Lando, Chewie 🥺😢
Half the movie could have been that and I would have been soo happy.
I greatly appreciate Jango Fett being in the character line up.
Ruin Johnson really,
royally sabotaged the entire story narrative of the sequels and prequels in one movie!
If you've ever seen the Sci-fi movie "Attack the block" starring the same actor, he could've definitely pulled it off.
They bait and switched us. They knew what was up. The previews showed him wielding the lightsaber. In those trailers they literally show him more than Rey. Yes there was backlash but if they would’ve did it correctly, no one would’ve cared. It still would’ve done great.
Bars man. Solid logic
I agree. I hate how they played him. But that Obi-Wan vs the entire darkside has me holding my side😂
Bro how do you not have more subs?! This was such a great video. Keep up the good work
I want to say it's possible they didn't go the Finn route because they wanted to appease the Chinese audience,as you know Finn wasn't in the poster in the Chinese version.
Fin not being a Jedi was criminal as fuck. It was the only reason I was invested honestly.
Fin and Rey should have been trained by Liea at Liea's temple if I was writing it would have been like the old channel 12 Sunday martial arts shows they both meet up they hound Leia to train them then she sends them out to save her son and bring him back to the light side
Well this is what happens when you just want to pump out movies without having a clear goal set in mind.
All because they couldn’t stand to see a Broski with Rayvanilla. They had chemistry.
I remember seeing the force awaken on a cruise and was thinking at the end "wait i thought Fin was the jedi"
This sequel trilogy gets a -6/10 from me, would not of done as much damage to the franchise if just didn’t exist in the first place, but if they just followed the finn being a storm trooper turned jedi plot then it would’ve been really good
John Boyega is one of my favorite actors it’s literally a conspiracy how often people fuck up his roles.
Ok you broke this down way too well. I was kind of mad before but now I’m HELLA mad 😂
I can see it now. Though Finn despises his role as a trooper, it's the only thing he knows. Even as he wields the youngling exterminator, he still clings to a blaster until (through Luke's guidance) he let's go of the past and embraces to force. DAMN I'M GOOD!!!
We know that most people would have screamed bloody murder if Finn were the main protagonist
Finn could have had one of the best rivalries with captain phasma and Kylo ren
The potential was there. Like, right there. A stormtrooper who develops a conscience and decides to rebel and will have to choose between saving his own life and new freedom or dedicating himself to others. You have to try to waste that.
And they did. Boy they did.
When I see what Disney says is doing with representation. I glance at their actions with Finn and I’m like I call BS
Ok this video is fucking peak. I know bro was cooking with this one. Congrats you got a new sub.
