In this video, we are planting oak trees to supplement the natural regeneration that will develop in the clearcut. WE cut this pine plantation to regenereate a native hardwood stand
This year is our first year that we are planting native NH trees for our friends and family who have passed in the past year. We will do so every Spring. We're planting five trees now (2023)- a hemlock, a cedar and three oak trees. I need all the advice I can get, so thank you 💕
Loved the explanation! How much taproot can be trimmed from a 1-5 year tree before it will die? I am transplanting oaks from a forest nearby to better locations and was curious how much root damage they can take in the dormant season and come back fine transplanted the following year.
I wish I had known that I could trim oak seedlings roots two weeks ago. It would have saved me a lot of shovel time planting those huge root masses. Is swamp white oak just a wildlife tree or can it produce quality logs for lumber, staves and veneer?
So let me get this straight, instead of just getting a bigger spade or digging a bigger hole.. you just cut the root system off almost entirely? 😅that sounds pretty silly to me
There are 2 nurseries i buy from Pikes Peak and musser forests. Its realy hard to find quality. Dont assume theyre healthy. Always examine first. PGC has a nursery as does DCNR

Its nice to take ashes and place into a tree planting. Circle of life
Thanks for such a great video. You are a wealth of Forestry knowledge.

A client who plants his own oaks from seed says that they dont do well if you cut the taproot
Hi, I'm growing an oak in a pot outside, how successful is growing them in pots as I don't have a garden.
I know a guy who plants them in Pringles cans then transfers them. They have very deep roots

Yes it will produce valuable wood - long after we are dead and buried, but that's forestry
Great video. I want to plant my white oak tree that’s about the size of what you have. Should I also fertilize
I wouldn't worry about fertilizing trees. Water is more important
Thank for the video ! Question what is the best time during the year to transplant a tree In Minnesota
You should always transplant in dormant season

No, you dont dig holes when you plant 1,000 seedlings. Also, in stony ground you need ro use a planting dibble
When transplanting the seedlings, do they need to be done during hibernation?
Dorman season is always best for transplanting trees
What do you recommend for spacing white oaks - habitat planting, not timber production.
Just put them in good soil and sunny spots. They need lots of sunshine. When spacing think about the crown size when mature and space accordingly
can you show us the oak trees by now maybe? :)
I'll go over for a follow up visit
where do you buy 1,000 saplings? aprox cost? thx!

Now i can build my starter base in minecraft
