My husband is an Army medic and EMT and rides a motorcycle. We have had two incidents with uninsured family members who had motorcycle accidents and refused to go to the ER because they couldn't afford to just to get their road rash cleaned up. My husband made sure they had no signs of head injury or fractures and then cleaned and bandaged their wounds. It took a TON of supplies both times and neither were seriously injured but the gauze had to be changed daily and it takes way more supplies than you think. We now keep a huge stock of saline wound wash, 4x4 gauze, medical tape, abdominal pads, peroxide and silver antimicrobial ointment. Even during normal times, if you get hurt and do go to the ER or even have surgery there will be home care afterwards and you will need these types of items for wounds.
Out of curiosity what do u consider a huge stock For example What are the sixe of the boxes count ? Hoe many boxes min do u reccomend having back etc Working to get an idea of what to build up
I had plantar warts removed, they surgically removed a lot of skin from the bottoms of both feet! I "thought" I was well stocked on medical supplies (retired firefighter and EMT). The next few weeks I went through my supplies like CRAZY!! Huge eye opener for me! When you think you've stocked enough, put that aside in storage and start again, then repeat!
If you know someone in the medical industry you can check to see if they can order equipment. They will usually get an amazing deal for a large amount of equipment and have access to a wider variety of things you may not be able to normally buy.
Talk about chain saws. I was doing gate duty for the Navy, it was a Sunday. So medical clinic was closed. This guy came walking up holding his hand up, and major blood was coming out from his hand. He kept yelling at me and cussing me out. I told him I can help him in the mean time, and call an ambulance for him because medical is closed on Sundays.
He kept cussing me out and yelling at me saying he is going to the clinic. I kept telling him its closed. After 10+ minutes of him arguing with me, I told him just sit down and I will call an ambulance or else I will have to detain him till police and ambulance arrives. He was starting to lose consciousness. Finally he listened to me.
So I called for an ambulance and got out my IFAK to help him. He said he was using a chain saw cutting down trees and slipped. He literally cut his hand in half. The chain saw almost went through his hand. Could see bones. All this while he is bleeding out.
And he kept telling me I don't need an ambulance. I need to go to the clinic. Well you be waiting for 24 hours for medical treatment. By then you'll be dead. I told him, ill call an ambulance to help you. And I know your worried about the bill. I'll pay for your ambulance bill. You need an ambulance now.

@@markusdriessen7609 in emergency many survivalists will also use chlorhexidine based solutions normally used in dental medicine for skin and surface disinfectant

Guys great information, I have a sailor medical kit that I got from the lost and found from my last job. No claim it after 90 day and it was given to me. This medical kit has 5 individual bags with medical, trauma, CPR, I been using this for kit the last 12 years. I rotate all medications once a year. I even read the medical book that it came with everytime I'm bored. The fact of the matter I was made fun off everytime I took my bag in the car on trips to beach. More than once I had what they needed. During hurricane Maria I had panadol etc. Guys great information you are out there. I downloaded the Zello app and it works great here in Puerto Rico.

EVERYONE should stock up as much as is reasonable because if EVERYONE is prepared to some level, we wont have to rely on that one neighbor to stock up like a hospital. I certainly don’t have that kind of room but everyone has some room to kind of spread that load out. Same thing with any supplies, food, water, etc. if EVERYONE had a good level of stock, things will be better in a bad situation. And i like that ideas of sending someone to EMT training. Wish that were more practical though.
