Funny, the image used as thumbnail depicts the Austrian Emperess Sissy, while she was staying on the Greek island of Corfu to recover from tuberculosis. She loved the island so much, that she had a little palace built for herself there, called the Achilleon. It is said, that this painting was kept in the emperor´s private rooms because of its rawness, and only he was allowed to look at it.
The irony is that she was obsessed with her physical appearance, very different from the message of this song. I read up on Empress Elizabeth after reading your comment, and learned about a historical figure from my own gene pool today. Thank you.
My daughter sent me the link to this beautiful song, because I always tell her, when she feels low, to remember whose daughter she is and to straighten her crown. I've been standing up for women's rights all my life.
Heard this song for the first time today on a Native American website. I’m Celtic & Northern European by blood! I’ve always been drawn to this form of music! It’s definitely must be in our genes for all women to feel this connection.
This is the best thing ever that RUclips algorithm recommended. It reminds me of my own roots and my own temperament. I'm not from the Indigenous Peoples, or even Celtic/Irish, but I'm a descendant of a peoples just as old, and just as fierce, who boosted many warriors queens and savage daughters through the millenia. I'm amazigh and this song makes me proud to be. Our people's voices were lowered because of Islam just like their Celtic and indigenous peoples were lowered by Christianity, but this song makes me feel that we don't have to comply with their ideals, we have our own, which are far older and ancient and better in some ways, and celebrating women was one of those ancient ideals that should be brought back. My people are matriarchal and the women are the fiercest you'll ever meet, proud lionesses who will fight tooth and nail and run barefoot on thorns and that's something that I find beautiful.

This song was created for every race. It was written in 1990 by an American woman who wrote it for her Norse heritage. But she states anyone can use it to feel empowered
When I first listen this song I felt so moved. I saw myself surrounded by nature and made me think about my mother's lineage and felt linked with every woman. There is a powerful call in this song.
Seems symbolic how her voice is actually cut off at the end. Makes me very sad. I believe that is the goal of the song. To make you feel empowered but then remember how powerful women were and still are brutally silenced.
And now I have a world of savage sisters, because as much as I love my mom I feel like this song calls on an older and more primal mother. And even if I just sing it to myself, alone, it feels joyful to raise my voice in it.
I love this song, I’d love to hear it with the missing verse. Chorus: I am my mother's savage daughter, the one who runs barefoot cursing sharp stones. I am my mother's savage daughter, I will not cut my hair, I will not lower my voice. My mother's child is a savage, She looks for her omens in the colors of stones, In the faces of cats, in the fall of feathers, In the dancing of fire and the curve of old bones. (Chorus) My mother's child dances in darkness, And sings heathen songs by the light of the moon, And watches the stars and renames the planets, And dreams she can reach them with a song and a broom. (Chorus) My mother's child curses too loud and too often, My mother's child laughs too hard and too long, And howls at the moon and sleeps in ditches, And clumsily raises her voice in this song. (Chorus) Now we all are brought forth out of darkness and water, Brought into this world through blood and through pain, And deep in our bones, the old songs are wakening, So sing them with voices of thunder and rain. (Chorus x3) We are our mother's savage daughters, The ones who run barefoot cursing sharp stones. We are our mother's savage daughters, We will not cut our hair, We will not lower our voice.
The amount I can relate to this song is almost scary, normally when I love something I go on for hours about it's intricacies and why I like it but this leaves me speechless. I would be happy to show someone this song when they ask me who I am.
