I have been following your warm up program, body weight exercises and so on from your website for a couple of weeks and it's a game changer for sure! Didn't know how skating without pain felt anymore haha, I can't thank you enough for these tips!
My ankles were really unhappy with skating, I could feel I was close to an injury. Started doing this before every session, haven't had a problem since. Thanks Daily Push
that's the warm ups I do every time, I've done those kinds since I started martial arts as a kid up until today, so glad I've been doing the proper stretches
One of the best realizations I've made skating over the last 12 years is running for about 15-20 minutes (at any pace. fast or slow), warms up my legs so well, that when i hop on the board after the run (this can be anywhere from 5 minutes to an hour later) I feel so good and in control. Also, yoga on the days you aren't skating is practically crucial for recovery. In addition to that, you significantly increase your balance and gain a stronger awareness of the muscles and strength in your legs.
Sick! If I'm skating close by I usually run around my house before razzing the dynamic stretches. Jogging deffo works the best for me too. I do a lot of exercises in the gym for strength and balance but I need to get more into the yoga game, I've got a fair few mates who say it really helps with their skating too. Cheers for your comment.
tried skating for the first time in 6 years yesterday, feeling it today, thought I was in pretty good shape but christ if I don't feel sore today. definitely going to give all this stuff a go.
Thanks for this. I am in my 40s, and I just started skating again after a twenty-some-year break. My approach in 2023 is vastly different than it was in 2002, and your advice is helpful.
Dude I wanna thank you so much because I had an amazing sesh because of this video everything was consistent my Ollie were so consistent which is weird cuz they never are and I just wanna say thank you so much this is so helpful
Good looks on the tips G i hate not being warmed up,like bro i cant even get my kickflips down untill 20 minutes of skating when my legs finally start feeling snappy. i can already tell these are gonna help me out a lot
@@TheDailyPush it helped a ton! I noticed a drastic change in my skating the very next day my flicks were on point for once. i landed tricks at the skate park that i had been trying for weeks :D supper psyched for that.
4 months ago I put a comment for this video. I ' m always making this streching is so fast and it feels amazing. This really helps me i'm short of time because of work, I can' t strech 1 hour hahaha This is really the dope!!! Thanks again. For the one who see this for first time go and try it! This is for real.
Dynamic Stretches: 10-20 reps Front and back Lunges Hamstring dynamic stretch pyramid pose with micro bend in knees Quad stretches High Knees Lunges to side Hip rotations Leg swings Lateral bends Forearm swipes Trunk Rotationsx from abdominals Toe bends plantar flex Impact squats Jog in place
neen williams tried to fuck us up ! he recommends to static stretch before skating, I tried for a few weeks and it definetly tires you down, had no pop and took like 30 minuits to do eveything properly... tried this the other day and had a great session, thanks bro !
Yea finally found ma boi whos gonna help solve my knee problems. I mean it always felt like shit and yesterday I did a 3 min warm up but I was pretty lost how to do it well. But now Im kinda getting in an understanding how it should be done. Definitely gonna give it a shot tomorrow and I'll see how it goes. But I assume it will be pretty nice. Anyways thanks my dude!
Just came across this comment of mine from 4 years ago. If anyone is interested here’s an update: TL:DR : it’s good and been useful Ever since then I’ve been using Matt’s warmup and after sesh stretching programs (I got both saved on my phone) and it’s truly something. Haven’t had any knee pain since then, I could perform and focus better, no ultimate soreness after the day of the sesh (I also incorporated foam rolling into my recovery process) and overall it’s a quick and effective warmup and stretch program. It really is only 10 minutes (or more, depending on the cardio) but never over 20 minutes for me. Thank you again Matt ❤
I dunno why I suck. I just keep trying and trying and trying and I just can't land anything. I want to quit but All that's on my mind is skateboarding.
Yeh don't do it! Learning your first few tricks is always hard but after a while it gets much easier and you'll start learning fast. However, then it will get horribly hard again and you'll probably feel like quitting again :'D Keep trying though bro, I'm sure you're doing better than you think, don't compare your skating to others and your progression should be easier to notice. I find skating with earphones also helps me focus a lot more and learn tricks a lot easier.
I'd say mix up where and with who you skate. Skating with the squad can hype you and make you commit to tricks you're working on, but it can also keep you from really digging into the basics and getting those down before moving on. Skating for 15 years or so on and off, I still like to skate by myself at least once a week just to hone my ollies, 180s and manual variations.
I tried it today for the first time after...mmmh...about 20 years...yeah, I need to warm up properly...geeez, ten minutes and I already strained something trying to ollie, which strangely still works after all that time - yes, 5cm on average isn't much but I take it anyways... So, warm it up! I sure will do. (cuz it even hurts sitting down)
Your website is great! I just checked it out and this video is also key for warming up before skating. Thank you! The injury rehab section is really helping me and will do for others too. 👌 👍
I am following your website for a long time. Thank you for all the help you have been getting me to recover and warm ups. But you are a baby still :) When I was your age warm up was not needed :) Wait till you are in your 40s what happens to your body. :P That being said... yes, do warm ups and stretches when you are a baby still. Will keep you on board also when you are over 40 and still want to have fun on board
Thanks Oskar! Great to hear it's been inspiring you. Like I said in your other comment I'm 29 haha, is that still a baby? Yeh deffo do this stuff when you're younger, wish I'd started taking care of myself when I was younger, took me many injuries and a surgery to realise I need to.
The Daily Push ... haha. Yea, 29 is still baby when it comes to skating regarding how your body gets more wack. Even from 39 to 43 I can feel a world, even though I am more fit than in my thirties ... mainly because I have to, to be able to skate. I need half an hour to be unblock my muscles, till muscles start to open. Pushing, warming up, active stretches etc. And a lot of Yoga, stretches and other training on the side. The first ollies look like I started skating a week ago. But once warmed up I can pop into knee high ledges for grinds again. It took me a while to skate a couple days for a couple hours without a day of break. But more than 3 days .. not possible anymore.
Thanks a lot for this amazing info. I just try it no without skate and it felt so smooth soft is really confortable .Can you please tell us whats is the better streching after skate as well? Thanks again and keep on pushin . PS: Love the Sound
You're welcome Juan! Glad it helped! There's a link to the stretches to do after the session in the video description, or just click on my channel and you'll find it there. Link for the music in the description too!
I have nothing but pain when I skate. I need to quit skating everyday and focus on skating hard 4 or 3 days a week. I needed this video for when I start skating again tommarow. I have a bit of reason for the increased sensitivity to soreness due to a terrible ankle injury. Although, this was 5 years ago. I have the ability to get into lots of desired tricks but as soon as I begin to kickflip into my slides and grinds, I quickly loose any power from my legs and I am forced to sit down due to the aches and pains. I am going to take my warm up regime much more serious
Yeh man your body needs rest! If you don't ever give yourself a break your aches and pains will accumulate and potentially become more serious. And for your ankle, have you been to see a physio?
To back this up, Kung fu monks been doing the warm up routine for centuries. Also goku from dragon ball z shows this routine. Joint rotation and jumpy stance
Anyone struggling with hot pockets? Burning pain sensation at the joint of your foot and shin. Right in that bend I get that pain when I hyper flex my foot (usually when landing). Best solution is to strengthen your ankles. Practice doing stabilizing exercises and ankle strengthening exercises. If this goes unchecked it could get a lot worse.
