All of a sudden, nathan cant stop saying minimalist, something that was never stressed with the Tesla. Now that another manufacturer duplicated the cheap concept of Tesla, its not such a hot idea now for the same people who glorified it.
It's not a Tesla. It's a Volvo. Tesla did not invent "minimalism" and don't even really do minimalism. They do more a workspace style. Volvo has done "understated" and "Scandinavian" for a long time. The only thing I see Tesla here is the use of a glass roof and maybe Tesla started using the floating tablet style in the center. But there have centrally placed gauges in cars before Tesla. There have been understated interiors before Tesla as well. This car has a Volvo shape overall and uses Volvo materials inside of it and Volvo's colors and textures. The only thing remotely Tesla is the use of a center tablet, hardly a definition of an overall interior IMO.
I don't see how Volvo can make money on this car making in China then exporting it to the US because of the 27% tariffs. Look for the EX30 to be made in South Carolina. Great car though! Love the minimalist approach. That's Volvo and Tesla-like.
No plans for now to make it in South Carolina. They'd have to toll the factory to do so and they're having enough issues trying to make the flagship EX90 and flagship SUV Polestar 3 in that factory. I guess Volvo crunched the numbers and Chinese production works best. But, maybe, that'll change in time.
I like that it has real door handles, and while I appreciate the ethos of this car with its recycled materials and minimalism there are a few deal breakers. With a small family the lack of 2nd row cup holders and vents is no good and I really dislike the trend of putting everything in the iPad a la Tesla including the climate controls. Also, it looks like the Nissan Kicks has more leg room for passengers which is saying a lot considering I’m imagining these are the same size car. I appreciate them making a cheap and fast EV, but this one won’t work for me. Holding out for the Honda Prologue!
No. Not at all. The Volvo EX90 is going to cost $100,000 fully loaded and start at around $79,000. This is an entry-level Volvo. Polestar is a sportier version of the Volvo aesthetic but with a different, but related, style. Poletar is the sportier brand. That's the difference between Polestar and Volvo.
Why do so many RUclipsrs promote this specific Chinese EV? There are plenty of other Chinese EVs by other Chinese brands that are much more exciting and interesting, both from technological point of view as well as from design point of view.
It's Swedish. tired of misinformed people like you calling it "Chinese." Go look at Volvo's presentation of people who designed, engineered materials for this car and so forth and none of them are Chinese. This car was done in Gothenburg, Sweden. Even the Geely platform was engineered by a Swede. Yes, the manufacture will be in China but I don't hear people calling most Western products made in China Chinese. Just have an attitude with Volvo for some weird reason. A Chinese car is a BYD, NIO or some other home-grown brand. Volvo is not a home-grown brand in China. Just a company that has a Chinese parent company. But Volvo is still a Swedish operated and run company.
@@NathanDAdlen I'm referring to the OP and anyone calling this a "Chinese EV." It's a European car. Yes, it's built in China but it is designed in Europe for the European and North American market. Tesla wasn't the first to put instrument displays and consoles in the center screen. Go back to the original Prius. Look also at the Nissan Quest, 3rd generation. @@benjaminsmith2287 pretty sure they were the first to put every button in the screen. And just because "that's car design" doesn't make it what people want. If you need a car, and every manufacturer is doing what the people hate, the people have no choice
@@ColeSpolaric I agree. There should be choice. With this Volvo, it's a cost thing and there's more flexibility in putting buttons into screens. Not every manufacturer is doing it. But look at Volvo's current cars. The current series doesn't have a lot of buttons. Look at a current XC40. How many buttons does it have? Now the EX30 has less buttons to save cost and more in the screen because it is an entry-level Volvo. The new EX90 has a few more buttons, not that many, but it has a display screen on its steering wheel. Volvo really has a very strong design philosophy and language. The word "understated" was used as opposed to "minimalism" to describe its "Scandinavian" style. Some of it may overlap with Tesla but a lot differs as well. And I think industries follow trends, and yes, Tesla did set some of them. But I don't see just a screen center or not located is copying Tesla and there's so much more to the full design of the Volvo vs. a Tesla. Plus the Volvo is portrait and very Volvo-y in its presentation. The Volvo departs in many ways from the Tesla Model 3/Y.
Nice presentation, but I am failing to see the allure of such a vehicle. It seems more optimized for manufacturing efficiency rather than for human occupancy and transport. Volvo in name and badging only.
It's a Volvo through and through. This is designed and conceived by the same teams who made the s60. It only uses a different platform and is manufactured in a plant in China vs. the USA.
In what way? This car looks like a modernized XC40 but smaller. I think a lot of the Chinese ownership people think they see they're projecting onto Volvo because Geely doesn't directly design Volvos.
@@dmegahan What does that mean? You think a platform is the only thing that defines a car. Who is the head engineer of the SEA platform from Geely and where did he come from? He's not Chinese. Again, what is it about this car that is "Geely" and not Volvo. What is shown that is specifically Geely. I see a lot of XC40 in this car. And I see a lot of Volvo heritage and lineage in the XC40. There are Lamborghinis and Bentleys built on VW Group platforms, so a platform, in and of itself, does not make a car underneath change nationalities. It's just a foundation but a lot of other aspects work at defining a brand. btw, CEVT blends the engineering know how of China and Sweden to make platforms. A lot of this engineering is Swedish. Geely is big on supplying money to these ventures. Volvo is a prime part of the development of the SPA, CMA platforms while an Swedish engineer is responsible for chiefly engineering the SEA platform this EX30 is built on. And, Volvo and Lotus and Polestar do modify and tweak the platform as well as choose their safety systems and software and such. Volvo will depart from some others in using Northvolt Batteries of Sweden for future BEVs. And, they're writing their own code for the EX90 (which affects the Polestar 3), one of the main reasons it is delayed while the Zeerkr001 is not. So, it's not as simple as Volvos are "Geelys" underneath when some brands are active in the engineering that they share.
Would like to start a tweet campaign for Tesla to attend the Detroit Auto Show. Bring a cyber truck. New model 3 and model y. Would honestly be huge advert. Tweet @Tesla @Elon Musk @ano T

@@benjaminsmith2287 That was one long winded load of crap.
@@bob-qi4nr Because you have no response based on information, so you come up with this weak reaction.
Nice presentation, but I am failing to see the allure of such a vehicle. It seems more optimized for manufacturing efficiency rather than for human occupancy and transport. Volvo in name and badging only.
It's a Volvo through and through. This is designed and conceived by the same teams who made the s60. It only uses a different platform and is manufactured in a plant in China vs. the USA.
2025?
Geely makes this? I will pass.
Volvo makes it. It's made in a Geely factory to Volvo's specs.

@@bob-qi4nr You a bigot?
Wish manufacturers didn't use "recycled" materials.
The back seat is useless. Why even bother to build that thing???
I doubt people will get to buy it at $35k. After dealer markups this will be $42k
No dealer mark ups. Volvo is selling their EVs online.
Oh my is that made for the vertically challenged or smaller sized humans. 12:58
Love your insight! Video kinda suck. Very blurry and compress!
Not a Tesla

I expect more from Volvo. I guess the Chinese ownership is really showing. It does look ok though.
In what way? This car looks like a modernized XC40 but smaller. I think a lot of the Chinese ownership people think they see they're projecting onto Volvo because Geely doesn't directly design Volvos.
@@benjaminsmith2287 there is a difference between design and pets sharing. Underneath it’s not a Volvo, is a Geely
OH NO IT'S CHINESE
I'm deeply disappointed in Volva. A Chinese import? WTF is wrong with Volvo?
Good grief. Another out of date Tesla wannabe.
another TFL joke , no thanks
“TFL joke?” How am I joking?
The interior is just ugly

Lol. No thanks
