Hey there, hope you enjoyed the video. Thanks for sticking around! Let's see what the future brings. Always feel free to comment and give suggestion. Thanks again! P.S.: We have a reddit now www.reddit.com/r/planetframes/
I have a late 2008 iMac a friend gave me with 6gb ram and Logic Pro installed, and just recently pulled a Kensington 500gb SSD from a PC I literally found chucked in a dumpster. May have to try this upgrade. I do audio recording and light video. Mostly on PC, but this little iMac just may have a bit more life to live as a backup, or as solid stand alone unit for hosting BiasFx or EZDrummer with my E-drums. Thanks for the video! Cheers!
Its still quit the machine for simple things, used a while also for Logic X. If you are even a bit more handy you could take a look at patching with dosdude, basically you ll be able to runner a newer version of os x on it, but you need some technical knowledge to do so. My sister still uses this machine as her daily driver with an SSD. Still going strong after 14 years!
@@PlanetFramesChannel That's awesome. Unfortunately, after 2012, and especially after 2014? Apple caught on to what people were discovering by using SSD and newer ram mods with older machines, and began incorporating "anti user upgrade" system designs and going after start up companies like iFixit. Aren't bazillion dollar corporations great?! (sarcasm) I'll stop my criticism now before I get into Kongo Cobalt mines that employ exploitive child labor abuses, and multi story Chinese manufacturing sites with "suicide netting" outside upper windows. Anyway, I'm really wanting to find a good deal on a decent 2009-2010 27" iMac to max out. These machines are genuinely engineering works of art with a lot of productive life still left in them. It's a shame Apple insists on a unsustainable natural resource hungry business model rather that encouraging self upgrade/repair sustainability IMO. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ That's multinational capitalism for you. (eyeroll) Ha!
I am still using mine and couldnt be happier. Ive managed to shove Big Sur on it as the early 2008 models have a Penryn core 2 duo instead of the 2007. Amazing machine.
Its called Patching, its unofficially upgrading your Mac to newer version but not every old Mac supports it. Best to look up tutorials, but it is completely at own risk, so backup before because it can go wrong and make you lose all ypur files or corrupt harddrive. Technical experience with installations is advised.
My two words : 4Gb of Ram are too few to get a "good" user experience with Catalina. I've tried it few years ago, and I got back to Mojave. If you're lucky finding decently priced 4Gb RAM stick (I never did so far, and almost gave up searching), go and get it asap ! My second 2008 iMac (specs exactly the same : 2.4Ghz, entry level ATI GFX) is running El Capitan and Mavericks (depending on what SW I need). Like some other YTer said : "these iMac are the Mercedes-Benz of computers : they hardly ever die !"
More RAM is better indeed, have you also tried it with an SSD? Because that is a world of a difference. Have not tried Catalina yet, have tried Mojave and with that the computer felt faster than in El Capitan...only the installation is not really for beginners.
@@PlanetFramesChannel Yes I've been using small (yet expensive, at that time !) SSDs for quite a while now. In fact, years before trying to install unssuported macOS versions on my old iMacs ! I own 3 2008 20inches iMacs, 4GbRAM each. one has a 60Gb SSD, one got a 120Gb SSD; the last is no longer running macOS: it's a quick and dirty made linux web server, with its original 1Tb HDD :-)
Im running logic pro with this exact model and it still is doing its duty in my home recording studio without issues. everything has its purpose, i guess.
True, Logic works very well, so cool to hear that this Mac is still being used for getting stuff done. Before I swapped out the SSD its main purpose was running Logic and providing the sounds for my keyboard, I quite like this Mac because it still of such high quality today, the speakers blow me away everytime I listen to them.
Sweeettttt! Thanks man I saw one of these for an extremely cheap price and was contemplating on whether I should get it. I think I might get it now. Would you think adobe animate would run smoothly on here?

Hello I'm sorry to bother but I have a 2007 IMac. In all honesty I just want to upgrade this thing to the MAX. I have no knowledge about computers whatsoever and I was curious what is the most I can do for this computer.
2018 yes, this one no. The 2008 maybe very very simple things, but it will need an older version of Adobe Illustrator for sure, but I would not recommend this iMac for Adobe Illustrator.
Just bought one of these bad boys for 30 dollars AUD. I bought it for the 4GB DDR2 ram stick until I realised it was a better machine then I wanted the RAM stick for! I have changed the operating system to Linux as El Capitan is no longer supported with security patches. It looks nice next to its late 2013 big brother on my desk.
@@rmoises8 it means it is no longer required. I stopped using it because it uses a lot of electricity for its limited processing power and I have a more modern iMac sitting next to it.
I dont know these programs, best to check the system requirements and compare them, but keep in mind that this Mac has a almost 10 year old cpu, and I can imagine that for trading (dealing with a lot of data) is quiet cpu intensive. If the software is rather new it probably wont work.
i think so too until i know 5g is not available everywhere in the world and 4g have speed limitation (only for phone and portable wifi) even when telco company said it doesn't..you need fibre optic internet connect directly to your device to experience 4g full capability..4k does watchable with phone internet but being on a phone the internet connectivity is not stable and most of the times you cant watch 4k video without it being stuck every 60 second..
definetly recommend, ssd, you will need to format and delete your harddrive anyway since it needs to be in a different format. I had Mojave Patch running and it functioned better then last officially supported OS. It is a bit tricky, but if you are bit techy its definetly worth it.
