Hi, I want to try shorter cranks as I can see the hip angle increase is beneficial for comfort and running afterwards. But what is the (preferably calculated) minimum crank length I could go for?
My understanding (from my fitter mostly) is that you have to lower the seat if you shorten the crank so the (hip) angle doesnt change (?) and my lay person intuition on the whole crank length thing is that big tall person = big frame crank etc...its just an issue of scale. Moving the saddle forward will however reduce hamstring load, improve comfort and perhaps reduce the sufferage...but that can come at the expence of efficiency on the bike. My recent fit has been to do just this as I am rehabing a hamstring tendonopathy due to asymmetical loading / glute deficiency and quad tightness...theres a surprisingly roomy window in a bike fit for adjusting these parameters. ...its an ongoing project but things have improved.
