We're year 4 of Connections Academy. I'm my granddaughter's learning coach and I wish online had been an option for my own children. To answer a few questions. We are in California and, in California, computers, either laptop or desktop are provided as well as a stipend to cover internet. Other states, like Texas, do not pay for computers. This was the first year we received a used book. All other years the books were new. Workbooks, of course, were all new and not required to be returned. When my kids were in school they sometimes had books that were tapped together they were so old so I've enjoyed having lightly used books. I think it all depends on what you want or need. We have one student in online school. I can't imagine doing this with 6!
Thanks for this! I didn’t know you had tried it. I started following you a while ago for RC content. Both my kiddos have special needs, so I couldn’t get RC to work for us. I’m probably going to start working, so I’m researching options in TX.
As a student in connections academy we get a free laptop and we half and half some books are used and some books a new and they are always in perfect condition. I think it’s also about the student and how the student learns if the student learns better using a different thing every student is different at least in high school that’s how it is in connections
Agreed! I was told, the first year, that the curriculum was designed to accommodate different learning styles and that we didn't have to do EVERYTHING as long as our student learned what they needed to learn. The only thing required was the assessments! Most families I talk to, who are having trouble, are the ones trying to do everything that is presented whether it's helping their student or not.
Our House If we needed help they were there for her. We could leave a message and the teacher would call us back if there was an issue. Any issue was always resolved. And her teacher would also contact us to just check in and make sure things were good.
@@ourhouse with my brother as a freshman he was at least 2-3 hours a day in sessions (classes). Apart from the sessions he wasn't much on the computer.
I hate this stuff I learn nothing in the live sessions if you want to pass you have to cheat they talk about different stuff than what your test/quiz is on. Also I am more stressed than I ever was in public school and probation support plan is not help I can’t keep my grades up so to what I have to do to pass and I could fail so wish me luck and my advice is to just enjoy your life during quarantine and all of this don’t let school stress you out
Literally me too I been k12 for 2 1/2 years and this year by far is the worst they email my mom saying I’m not doing my school work nor am I in the classes when she literally watches me do my homework like 🧍🏽♀️okay ms girl I’m leaving this school and going to a real school but it’s different
My mom and dad both work and school isn’t working out for me so they are trying to find an online school that provides someone talking to me and not just an assignment that says do this do that without any help. And it doesn’t help that i need a dyslexia program thing because i’m very dyslexic 💅. I’m a middle schooler and i have to take more classes now -_- . If you know any good schools please if you can recommend some online schools that you would recommend thank you :)
Hi I have a daughter in the 8. grade in the international school in Istanbul turkey and I want that she continue this year because of the COVID-19 over online school could you inform me how she can do and which online school is the best choices for her thanks
They didn't require me to do anything, they just approved and paid for the tuition. Kids did not meet a requirement of days of anything. Im in Arizona also.
Been at connections academy for 3years and there are pros and cons I love the teachers don’t like the system The curriculum is advance This is not good for kids who are struggling academically as this school don’t support kids with disabilities… they have reading program and it’s decent but if your child is struggling this will not be a good idea
Thanks for this detailed review. I've been looking at using RC but the upfront cost is just really going to stretch us. Do you know if there are payment plans or anything?
I’ve been getting back talk for teachers (which is kind of messed up for my two kindergartners) and after they get their vaccine, stick to going to actual school.
I really need help on trying get my child into Alabama Connection Academy he's a junior and wants to finish as a senior but online school do you think that will be hard for him trying to get in?
I think they take anybody. Right now a lot of people are signing up for those schools so if you're thinking about it, you want to sign up ASAP because they might have a cap on enrolled students.
Its really crazy I've been trying to get in since last week is there another online virtual school y'all know that is tuition free...and can be in Alabama
In California, the legislature passed a law that capped the charter schools (that Connections Academy is funded through) so that no new student could enroll during the 2020-2021 school year. Connections was ramped up and ready to admit more students due to COVID-19 but enrollment was halted due to the politicians. :(
What would you recommend for a upcoming 4 grader? He’s taking advanced/gifted classes at Cambridge public school but what to homeschool for 2023-2024 school year. It gets overwhelming with so much h.w. Projects for both of us. Florida mom
I highly recommend the Robinson Curriculum. It’s back to basics approach with no grade levels to limit a student has produced remarkable results and it’s very sustainable for parents and kids, no burnout. I have a free course on it on my website sustainablehomeschooling.com it’s how I can homeschool 6 kids and work from home.
hello . my baby girl turned 05 and we are not in the US not in US and want to get her enrolled to lowest cost or free accredited online school, Possibility of enrollment, fee structure, accreditation with US education institutes (credits transfer) etc. if you can help. thanks
I will be on a live pannel this Friday on this topic. I would recommend you sign up for my email list and grab my free homeschooling course to get started. www.sustainablehomeschooling.com/freerccourse
No, it’s too much. I have a course called RC for Littles to get them ready for a self teaching curriculum like RC. Those online programs to me seem like way too much and not sustainable or the ideal way to learn.
Connections seems ok. I am looking for a school where the parents don't have to do everything. it feels like we care managing the entire school not easy considering both mom and dad work a lot. is there any school even more expensive schools where it takes the parents out of the equation at least moderately
I did K12 a year ago and they did do live sessions that you had to join. You did not have to turn on your mic or camera. I had about 6 classes, so depending on each class it was on different days and times.

I just called CA and here in Kansas we do not get a laptop and she didn't mention a stipend for internet. Thank you for this post!
Thank you for sharing this information!
You do get a laptop with Connections and monthly allowance for internet. We got all new supplies. This was three years ago, though.
Thank you for letting me know. How was the screen time with them?

This was good
I never got used books from connections academy and they provide everything like k12. Academically I think k12is better.
in maryland do you know what online school can pass the student to the next grade?
what’s the website link for the k12 school? i cant find it there are too many options.

Hi. Do they help kids with assignments such as math? I'm worried we'd be stuck on a math problem or something
Thanks for this detailed review. I've been looking at using RC but the upfront cost is just really going to stretch us. Do you know if there are payment plans or anything?
It might be possible they could set something up if you give them a call. They also have a full scholarship program that you can call and apply for.
Hello. I would like to find more information on Sequoia Academy. Can you send me a link to their website? Do they offer online school In Minnesota?
I believe it's AZ only. www.sequoiachoice.org/
They also don’t send you most materials and it gets SUPER confusing
I’ve been getting back talk for teachers (which is kind of messed up for my two kindergartners) and after they get their vaccine, stick to going to actual school.
We like connections but moving and won't have it there.
Are the lessons from a teacher either live or recorded? With Sequoia? I am looking for teacher led but flexibility to do on own time.
Pre recorded
@@ourhouse hello does this apply to all schools as I am also looking for flexibility as well thank you

I’m going to California Connections Academy and my homeroom teacher just told me there’s 9,000 people waitlisted to get in. It’s crazy

Do you know if connections academy will honor IEP special needs child’s and offer therapies ? Speech and ot ?
I'm sure legally they are obligated to, however it seems to be rarely a smooth ride. You really need to stay on top of it all.
They do

so if u have to return everything at the end of the year does that mean i have to pay all the shipping to return everything?
No, it’s pre-paid labels.
Where can I find honest reviews for these schools?

Which one do you think is best for me to take as a freshman?? And can these get me into elite colleges??
I’m not sure but I’m doing connections next year
@@trystonromero7182 did you end up liking it?

Which school gives the best support for students with learning disabilities? More specifically in math.
Homeschooling with a tutor if needed.
I wonder if i sign my daughter up this august will she be accepted
They take anybody at any time.
Our House oh okay thank you
You do get one computer per household in connections.
yes students get a laptop 👨💻 with connection academy..
Let’s talk about how they send you computers that have sticky keys and they basically just throw you to the wind
My daughter graduated from junior high school in china, can she enter online high school in china, she is American

I was thinking the same thing.
