    guitarcontrol....
Learning to play guitar encompasses a lot of things. You’ll want to learn chords, scales, dynamics, playing licks and solos, and how to find your way around the neck of the guitar without having to think about it. If you play guitar long enough, particularly if you’re the creative type, you will probably want to try your hand at writing a song of your own. Robert uses this lesson to give you some pointers on taking a simple idea and turning it into something you can call a song. Guitar songs are like any other song. Still, writing on guitar very often produces a different type of song than you might get if you wrote on a piano. Like all songs, however, songs written with a guitar use melody, harmony, and rhythm. Here Robert takes a basic chord and applies a nice picking pattern, then he shows you how to apply subtle variations to the theme that allow you to structure an introduction, verse, or bridge for what will eventually become a song. While songwriting is a very personal endeavor, approached in many different ways, Robert’s method here leaves a lot of room for you to experiment with your creativity. He keeps it simple and shows you how to develop a simple idea into something with substance and structure. This lesson for songwriting on guitar can be used in conjunction with some of Robert’s other acoustic guitar lessons (his lessons on fills, strumming, and chord inversions are all good) and will help guide you to writing some great guitar songs. Some of these essential techniques are touched on here as well. Start with the pattern Robert demonstrates here, then apply it to some of your favorite chord progressions to see what you can come up with. You’ll be writing hits in no time.

It's so true that writing a simply song can often be much more difficult than a complicated one. I've always found the best tunes are typically the most straight-forward which is somewhat ironic as were all trying to make tunes as flavorful as possible when were really just diluting the taste...

Cool, the tips you provided are the same ones i use. especially where the intro is played as a melody, and with those same chords strum them to play the verse. for the chorus, its a bit difficult, either play around with the guitar until you find what sounds right, or find what scale the verse is at. usually there will be couple of them like (E MAJ, C min..etc). play around with those chord in that scale and find what sounds right. for the bridge, i usually step up or down from the scale were im playing at. overall what has really work for me is just to keep playing new chords and lyrics, write them down, you will find out that what you wrote down a 1yr ago will fit the new song you're writing.

Thanks Tristan Jay Virtudazo, glad you enjoyed the video:) Just learn as many chords as you can and develop a lyric as you play a set of chords that sound good. It's all subjective.

my life is full of coincidences, i just wrote a tune for a new friend and it started with this first chord you showed, it is a bit of a slow song and i was looking for inspiration for a more upbeat song, but, really the same chord? the tune is on my facebook page atm and although the chord origianlly was the first chord i arranged the song so that it appear near the middle, if anyone wants to check, but i swear, this Amaj9 chord, lol.
