I'm afraid that this is a bit like last year - the singer is much better than the song. As you say, this sounds like an X-Factor winner's song; it's competently performed, but it feels very generic. Spain and Italy have chosen unique-sounding songs. There's not going to be another Miki or Mahmood, but there'll be loads of generic ballads about how much the singer loves you and how powerful their love is and all the rest.
Exactly this. He's a great singer with a bland song (irrelevant that it's a ballad, it's simply a bland one!) and already there are some interesting/different/special songs out there. I can never remember this song five minutes after it finishes. It's about time the UK does something completely different. Who cares if it flops. We can't do worse than what we've done recently!!
There are a lot of songs like La Venda and Bigger Than Us. I think Soldi is the most unique out of the 3. The other 2 are a bit unoriginal in my opinion.
@@jlhabitan50 I love a good ballad. My favorite entry ever is a ballad (France 1969 Frida Boccara Un Jour Un Enfant) but Salvador was really boring and dull.

Hello, Thank you so much for your kind words! Our reactors try not to listen to the songs before reacting. Of-course they can't help it if they watched their own country's national selection and heard the song that was selected but generally they listen for the first time during this video!
Exactly, I'm very sad for Montenegro because in 2014 and 2015 (2013 was an injustice that they didn't qualify) they sent beautiful songs and now they send something boring
@@silvioserrano5757 i'm not sad. They could have chosen andrea, a song from 2019 instead of dated song from '90s. I don't know how the song ended up being one of 5 options for esc, let alone how it won. But montenegrin public likes it so i guess at least one of us is happy. I cannot wait for them to comment on montenegro 😂 i know that arne will be my fave 😂
Ballads can be good but this is just a bland one. Sounds extremely dated, reminds me of any Backstreet Boys song lmao, he's vocals are amazing and the song is not bad, just forgettable. Waiting for your Italy reaction, it's my personal number 1 by far.
Interesting. Had this been entered for Melfest this year, considering who co-wrote this, would the general opinion change if it was a potential entry from Sweden? Apparently, everyone seems to like and go crazy over every single entry entered in there, whether they'd be a generic pop song or a generic ballad. It doesn't matter if it's generic or bland (or both) as long as it's from Sweden, you know it's better than everything else.
Yeeeeeeeees, I love this song sooooo much😍😍 Arne has for once taste😂 Hhahahaha, Arne sorry ma u smaak is niet echt altijd fantastisch, maar bij mij staat die ook op nummer 1. Good luck UK, greetings from Belgium❤❤❤
Michael is amazing and his vocals are so good but the actual song isn't good like nobody cares for these positive songs so sad to see his talent wasted Still hope it gets atleast on the left side though
It's all the British reactors and the Australian that feel this way. You have to understand how fucking bored most of us are with British ballads specifically, it's not ballads in general. The British selection process intentionally blocks any type of creativity, freedom of expression or genuine emotion because all the songs are written by random song writers and then given to the singers. They purposefully keep the songs vague, generic and uncreative so that anyone can sing them. Whenever the UK has ballads in the selection process they sound like X Factor winner's singles which most of us have grown up with for like 15 years.
So it wasn't just me that though the song was too x-factor. As for the singer, I would say that he gives more of James Arthur sort of vibes rather than Sam Smith. But I guess I'm comparing him to James Arthur cause of the x-factory sound of the song.
This is the thing right: He’s amazing. He’s such a good singer. I actually love him. But why do we always send such shut songs? Why do we always send boring, repetitive, superficial songs that have no depth. Leonie put it well - it was great but my expectations were already quite low 😂😂 I really think we ought to ditch our songwriters
The co-songwriter behind this, Laurell Barker, was also behind last year's fan-favorite in You Decide, Asanda's "Legends", which a couple of Eurovision Hub reactors were big fans of. In fact, she's the only returning songwriter since 2017, where she also wrote another fan-favorite entry, Holly Brewer's "I Wished I Loved You More". In fact, she's also behind a couple of songs in the past selection, Switzerland's "Stones" and Sweden's "All the Feels".
The issue is honestly our selection process. It pisses me off because we hide away all kinds of creativity and freedom of expression just so that these old fart writers can show off what they think is this special formula for Eurovision songs. The songs are written by the industry pros and then are handed willy nilly to random singers. There's no possibility of giving heart, emotion or anything interesting because they intentionally keep the songs generic, vague and uninventive purely so that they can be sung by anyone. It's such a shame
@@yepitsthatguy5278 One of those writers did manage to perform his song in 2016. And his fellow songwriter now has two songs in contention at ESC, both for the UK and Germany, with one reportedly coming from Switzerland, and another sadly didn't go forward in Sweden recently, so there's that.

That doesn't change at all the fact that singer didn't have any say in the song, and the song was not written with any singer in mind. When you compare the song to something like Italy which has lyrics that could only ever be written by Mahmood himself, I feel like it becomes obvious that this UK selection process just isn't ideal. Even if you take a super simple, generic song like Spain's. The song is written and produced by other people, not Miki. But it was written by lead singer of the band that performs the song, and was written specifically for a singer like Miki in mind - someone who can be energetic and fun onstage, not bothering about the vocals. My issue is not the quality of the song writers or the fact that none of the singers write their own songs, my issue is the detachment between the writers and the singers.
@@yepitsthatguy5278 Which is the same for several other national selections. Most winning songs in English have been written by native Anglophones, and those who speak ESOL.
This is one of my favorite songs of ESC this year which is always in my Replay list. It’s underrated and it may sound generic, outdated and unoriginal, but this song is really good written, catchy and has a pretty good music composition as well. If this song was sang by a singer who represented Sweden, many would’ve loved and embraced it. The truth is the song writer of this song is actually the same song writer who wrote the song for Sweden this year (John Lundvik). I just feel that many pople dislike this song just because because it is representing UK. Many won’t even give UK and this singer the benefit of a doubt, simply because the country’s unfortunate scores of the previous years in ESC and also the recent political situation (Brexit) do cloud their judgement. It’s unfair and prejudging, imho. In fact, UK has the same right as any other countries to be judged objectively solely based on the song, vocal and the performance. That being said, I won’t be surprised that this song will surprisingly end up much higher than what many people predicted.
WHY does the UK INSIST on sending ballads to Eurovision! Slow songs work great in Eurovision of course, but if the UK wants to stand out for a change it needs to set itself free from these "I have feelings" type of songs and just have a party, stop taking itself so seriously and LET GO!
