  • A short video I did after a colleague of mine contacted me and told me about a disturbing trend of technique pedagogy in Orff classroom settings. An important discussion to be had about ergonomics, for sure. It seems that many teachers are having their students hold the mallets perpendicular to the instrument (explained at the beginning of the video). Renowned sports therapists and general practitioners with whom I have consulted have assured me that this is a road to nowhere but a repetitive strain injury. Special thanks to an esteemed colleague of mine - who would prefer to remain nameless - for suggesting that I cover this topic.

    That's been an ongoing discussion for many years between Off people and percussionist. Had the same discussion back in the early 90's.

      Agreed, but in the end, I think that physiology should win the debate.
