  • Located in the city of Ise, Mie prefecture Ise Grand Shrine is a Shinto shrine dedicated to the Amaterasu-Omikami goddess. Spread across a vast part of Ise, the Grand Shrine is mainly composed of two major complexes known as Naiku and Geku. Being the principal temple of Ise Grand Shrine, Naiku, is by far the most beautiful shrine of all, with trees as old as 800 years.
    As one of Japan’s most sacred shrines, only a small number of photos or videos are allowed to be taken. Many partitions keep the secret beauty of this place intact and only available to a certain few. Simple yet majestic, the shrine is unlike many others in Japan. Rebuilt every 20 years from top to bottom including the Uji Bridge. Uji is a 100m long bridge which is the only way for people like us to access the shrine.

    I only managed to visit Atsuta shrine near Nagoya on my visits which is ranked almost at the same level as Ise. I might make it there one day😊 I know you prefer it without the crowds but I often prefer these places when its sichi go han or there's a wedding or some other event and people turn up in their best traditional clothes (mostly the women). I don't mind the quiet periods either. Have you ever stayed and filmed when it goes from quiet to busy and then back to quiet again? The changing atmosphere and light would be nice to observe.

    I thought Geku and Naiku were off-limits?

      @TokyoStreetView  3 года назад +1

      What do you mean by off-limits? As long as you have the proper authorization prior to shoot there are no problems.

      It was a list about places that people cant go into like Vatican Secret Archives or North Sentinel Island or the Svalberd Seed Vault. The Grand Ise Shrine was on that list, the Geku and Naiku shrines

      @TokyoStreetView  3 года назад +2

      Well, this is not really true. 90% of the place is open to the public. There however one area that only the Emperor and some few selected guest can go (depending how famous or wealthy you are).
