I do like how you remember that dragons come from a different Star. And it explains WHY dragons are so powerful - each dragon is essentially an unsundered Ascian. They came from a planet that wasn't shattered, so their souls are intact and super dense.
This operates off an assumption of equality between stars that with just Stormblood level lore can be assumed not the case. Omega also came from another world than the dragons. Which unto itself you might suggest it had similar aetherological capacity as a dragon but that isn't important, whats important is it is a machine developed to contest dragons (and all threats besides), which means it's designers were NOT as powerful as dragons (otherwise no need to build it) therefore not all stars or more importantly their residents are made equal. And again, this can all be extrapolated purely from quests in StB and below. Otherwise, I too enjoy they remember that dragons are from another star.

Honestly, him realizing Zenos would probably just get resealed after his defeat as zodiark instead of being killed is probably why fanny chose to pilot it instead. At least that's how it feels to me.
@aliciafraser1835 I agree. I was confused at first myself, but then realized that we basically killed/weakened the body, which allowed Fandaniel to finish himself off.
I think this is an important distinction, and why the WoL wouldn't have straight-up killed Zodiark. He just didn't expect Fandaniel to finish the job, being that Zodiark's body was now weak enough from the conflict. The WoL knows that Zodiark kept the Final Days from progressing, and I don't think typical primal-murder was ever the WoL's plan.

My interpretation of Zenos' idea of Fandaniel's plan was that he would eat/absorb Zodiark's aether like he did with Shinryu, then face the WoL. Hence Zenos' constant talk about gorging on the moon.
I think Fandaniel's plan was Zenos becoming heart and WoL killing him. But he changed plans, for some reason, and became heart himself. Its really foggy.
@@cyphi474 I think that's what Fandaniel told Zenos the plan was, but I think he was lying. I think Fandaniel's plan was always to become the heart himself. He gives the following line in the intro to the trial: "I had intended to pit my fractured divinity against Zenos, but a more tempting option presents itself." This, to me, suggests he lured Zenos to the moon on the promise of absorbing Zodiark's power. Then, Fandaniel was going to become the heart and tell Zenos the only way to take Zodiark's power would be to fight him (where Fandaniel would instead kill Zodiark as he does after battling the WoL). Overall I agree that it's less-than-clear.
@@Reinshark Yea thats another option. Fandaniel was sundered. Its very unlikely he would think he could beat Zenos himself, even with power of incomplete Zodiark at his disposal. This is the best possible non-spoiler title for this video. Everyone who's ahead of you IMMEDIATELY knows what you're going to talk about, and everyone else is going "Wait, what happens at level 83?" Overall I absolutely love this writing choice from Ishikawa and from the way the trailers showed things. It reminded me of like the 20 minute mark when watching Endgame, where I was was like "Wait, they did the big finale thing ... what ... what is the rest of the movie [game] going to be?" It was so incredibly liberating, having ZERO expectations of what could potentially happen. Side Note: The one edit I've always wanted to see of Fandaniel's eulogy-in-slow-mo would be the 80s/90s record scratch + "Yep, that's me. You're probably wondering how I got here" with Fandaniel's voiceover. It looks exactly like the sort of thing that would fit here (aside from completely destroying the tone of the scene lol)
I would love to see the guys come back and watch these after completing Endwalker 😅 These videos where you just discuss your ideas are so interesting!! Love it
Some trivia for the "Gateway of the Gods" quest: this is actually a reference to a mission in FFXI that shared the (mostly) same name, in which you also access some sort of ancient teleporter technology to transport up to a place high above the planet's surface.
one of my favorite parts about this fight is the way the orchestra gives you a few triumphant swells before seeming to remember, "wait, isn't this the worst possible scenario?"
"Evil Latte" (TM) 😂 Always love seeing Tuna and Val cut in together for the intros❤ And absolutely beside myself with excitement on the theories cooking away. Not many stories can "stump" with so many valid and exciting options. Walk on❤
I am planning to actually make popcorn for this. I've been wondering what your video on this segment would be like for a *long* time. EDIT: Ok this might be my favourite cooking video so far.
Before Endwalker came out, there was an interview where Yoshi-P said "There will be a point in the game where players will say "we're here already??" This is what he meant."
Holy shit I was aware that WoL is 1 more rejoined than your average ffxiv denizens. But I didn't even think about the fact that we are one up on zodiac as well.
every single time i play new msq or watch someone experience it, i'm reminded why i'll never quit this game. the amazing storytelling is worth staying for
Something that didn't even occur to me until I caught this stream was that the names of the brands on the moon correspond to death/torment by each of the six elements. Searing = fire, numbing = ice, striking = lightning, crushing = earth, biting = wind, drowning = water. Their layout corresponds to the positioning of the elements around the circle as well. Might be a little obvious given the seal that appears on the moon when Fandaniel shoots it with the aether beam, but I'd never made the connection before.
Your composite shots are absolutely amazing. It's really making my memory fuse reality and with them so that of course Val and Tuna were in the scene, because the experience was Garrett and Kyle. As for the cooking and discussing, I remember going into Endwalker, one of the big prediction splits in the community was did you or did you not trust Hydaelyn. People were adamant that Hydaelyn could/couldn't be trusted, and I remember that living in the back of my head when we reached this point because I wasn't sure if that was or was not Hydaelyn's voice. I remember commenting to my husband something along the lines of, did we just free the real Hydaelyn? 83 is such a wild time in this expansion.
This is like, top-tier cooking. Some of the best you've put out so far. I've been low on good background video while doing other stuff, so recently started a GG rewatch. It's pretty awesome to see the progression from the beginning of FF to now.
I've found ever since finishing Endwalker that one of the things I've enjoyed the most has been listening to people theorycraft about what exactly is going on at the point in the story they're at. Glad you guys are really enjoying MSQ! Looking forward to you guys getting deeper into Endwalker and beyond!
All of y’all’s edits are so good (that intro!!) but the “home sweet home” poster on the wall of Elidibus’s ‘apartment’ is by far my fave for this vid. Can’t wait for you guys to see the rest of the expac!
10:44 That is a REALLY interesting observation and the first time I've ever heard of it. I never considered that a huge part of the WoL's edge is being one time more rejoined than any of their opponents. We get that context in shadowbringers but I totally missed that it also means *everyone else* is one time less rejoined, including Zodiark.
To be fair, we've been kicking the crap out of big bads since ARR. We only got the extra 14th of a soul at the end of Shadowbringers. Also, I think part of the point of the whole us-in-an-imperial-body sequence was specifically to point out that we're not powerful _only_ because of our aether or raw strength, but because of our unflinching will. Despite being given every disadvantage imaginable, we escape the ruins of the capital, crawl our way back to Broken Glass, and do it in time to interrupt Zenos' attack on our friends. Did the weakened power of the imperial body impair us? You bet, but it didn't _stop us,_ which is, I believe, the point the devs were trying to make with that sequence. Our power comes from within.
I'm feeling so much joy watching this journey. I'm glad you guys move at a snails pace because no one does it as well as you do and I have something to keep looking forward to.
"Hythlodaeus doesn't strike me as a ponytail man"... ROFL I'm glad you focused some on Amon's final moments and his attachment to being Amon. That's one of my favorite cutscenes, at least for this part of the story of Endwalker.
The fact you guys can be simultaneously so right and so wrong at the same time I think speaks to the quality of the writing. So much of the story intentionally leads your mind to places but its not predictable despite that. It combines familiar tropes with subverted expectations to constantly exceed those expectations. Zodiark was telegraphed so long ago as a final boss but they put him first to show us all bets are off now... also just a great fight.
We technically knew that killing Zodiark was bad. It wasn't told explicitly, but there were enough clues, explicit clues mind you, that hinted Zodiark dying is bad. We knew the Ancients resorted to Zodiark to save them, so in turn removing Zodiark would probably mean his protection would be gone and the Final Days would resume.
Even after all this time I’m impressed how much you guys actually do retain the story despite all the dialogue, and trying to compile your thoughts or what you both think the story is going into. Cheers Kyle, and you as well Garret.
Fandaniel was so frustrating to me. And when he died he really hit me with a "lol I was annoying on purpose all according to plan 🤪" and I just screamed 😂.
I await/look forward to these videos from you guys just as much as the MSQ streams. These theorycraft vids have only gotten better and better. Can't wait for more.
I wish I had something intelligent to contribute. Unfortunately, my brain is always smooth and empty. All I can say is it's amazing to be present for livestreams, then see your initial thought vomits edited and expounded upon in these videos. As my years of being a Food Network fan can attest, I enjoy watching people cook LOL! Love all your content. \o/
Final Fantasy 14 is utterly beautiful as a game. If the writers had simply made this a book series I would still love it. So many ppl who don't game never believe me when I say I've cried more playing this than reading/watching many other pieces of media. Can't wait to see the discussion after the next section of the MSQ. Enjoy the rest of EW!
Sad you missed it, was great! Some great energy in the premiere chat! Virgin Lasers, Tataru Trolleys, Mommies and Doggos, my ascension as the true FF14 villain, Hippielodauses and more!
I LOVE when you edit your characters together in a cutscene. You adventure together, having your characters in the cutscene together just feels right. Really great editing there. Other than that I have so much fun with your theories. You are absolutely right and totally wrong and everything in-between, its glorious 😆 Waiting for you to continue and discovering the rest of the story of EW and beyond
Its kinda funny, nobody tells you not to kill Zodiark but Emet spent an entire expansion telling you of his glory and after the rak’tika dungeon, why he was summoned. I didn’t connect the dots until after the fight but woops, too late 😅
Zodiark being reduced logically is even mentioned in Shadowbringers. They naturally looked towards the dark because like they explained in shadowbringers Light is stillness Dark is Energetic they needed the energy.
I was in queue as a tank for hours when Zodiark was new, I waited over 2 the first night and ended up giving up on the story binge to rest and let people get there, only to wait again in the morning for another hour. And this was during Queuewalker so I had to deal with the giant slow queues to log in, which was also another reason finding a group was slow.
Man I wish i'd caught this close to when it came out... because I really want to point out that Zodiark isn't inherently evil. He is literally the desire to save the star. It's why all the voices inside really disliked Fandaniel taking over. Because he wanted to use Zodiark to destroy the star. Something completely opposite to it's original purpose.
They did warn you, Emet said that Zodiark was created to rewrite the laws of nature and halt the Final Days. This is why Hydaelyn split him in the first place. She couldn't kill him, or it would allow the Final Days to resume.
The editing in this intro is flawless. Always love to see your guys' theories and see how close or not you get 😂 Cant wait to see your reaction to the next bits ❤
Let em cook! edit: Zodiark was kind of a unique boss. I remember him being very difficult until the rotation mechanic clicks. Once it clicks he's among the easiest.
5:30 "As someone who immediately grabbed onto Hythlodaeus and thought Hythlodaeus was such a cool part of Shadowbringers." All I can say is =-). 30:35 I'm amazed we got so late into the video before we got an "Omg Kyle" moment from Garrett.
I love this trial. The song goes hard enough for an end-of-expansion and the design is worthy of the build-up behind Zodiark. And casually meeting Hythlobro only for him to go "Oh Emet did that? What a sentimental old coot" was a cherry on top. Just imagine how close they must have been for him to be unphased by being copied into a self-aware actor.
I hit the Zodiark fight on day 3 after launch and, hot on the heels of Never-Ending Story dog, the volume of WTF? was staggering. So much of the EW story just blindsides you. It's the only trial I've done that 1st group didn't complete in time and voted to leave. Got it 1st pull with the next group.
A delicious meal of cooking! I am so delighted to get to watch you journey through this beautiful game. PS, maybe zenos eats moon emote for cooking? Lol
To be fair about the whole "No one thought to mention not to kill Zodiark" thing, we kind of didn't. We weakened him, and then the plan was to seal him again, the watcher even says to leave while he does. I think we were screwed the minute Fandaniel Overtook Zodiark, since he wanted him to die anyways, and killed himself as Zodiark.
Yep. We never intended to kill Zodiark. Fandaniel made that choice for us. Our intention was to beat him back in his prison and that's the end of Endwalker! Everyone happy, Final Days averted, let's get some mojitos. Alas, Fandaniel found that prospect too boring and said "Naw."
i have no proof to back this up, but the first time i saw zodiark’s face my first thought was “looks kinda like xande?” so i like the believe fandaniel made zodiark look like xande as a grand gesture to his beloved emperor
Regarding the Evil Latte Connundrum, i always figured that the Ether juice was used for the laser to break the seal not the teleporter itself since allagans had teleporters since, well, always and they didnt seem to require any "people juice" lol
I think it surprised everyone but it really shouldn't have considering we went in with Yoshida saying "the 6.0 is what the other expansions are up to the .3/4 section" so instead of having Zodiark be our Hades fight we had to get it early because that "heres the end of x.o" moment wasn't planned to end the 6.0 release this time around. The positive of course is that most people then immediately finish the fight and go "wait... then who the hell is the level 90 trial??" which honestly i think is a better lead up to the end than "finally we get to zodiark, surprising nobody" which would have felt a little rpg going through the motions.
Maybe its just how i interpreted and internalized all of Shadowbringers and its patches, but going into Endwalker, i had a pretty clear idea that Zodiark's very existence was protecting the planet from the final days. I felt like Emet was pretty clear that summoning Zodiark worked.
Wow, that intro though. These videos and followed by the MSQ streams make my week. (Other streams are fun too) I'm just gunna sit here and until you guys are current. Enjoy the journey 🙃🙂🙃

EDIT: Ok this might be my favourite cooking video so far.
Before Endwalker came out, there was an interview where Yoshi-P said "There will be a point in the game where players will say "we're here already??" This is what he meant."
"sloppeh style" of casting themselves off the edge 😂 brilliant
And the hythlo cooking is hilarious 😂😂
"This spirit we think is Hythlodeus has white hair" ...Huh? That's like... purple/lavender.
It is, but to their credit the scene takes place in a zone choked in purple-ish light so I can see someone thinking otherwise.
And it does look white/gray in the footage they showed here. Probably due to the game engine handling lightings and all.
Holy shit I was aware that WoL is 1 more rejoined than your average ffxiv denizens. But I didn't even think about the fact that we are one up on zodiac as well.
every single time i play new msq or watch someone experience it, i'm reminded why i'll never quit this game. the amazing storytelling is worth staying for
I believe this is tomorrow’s vid set to go public in 12hrs... perfect birthday gift for me 😁
happy birthday!
Happy birthday
Happeh Birfdeh Woj!
Happy birthday I hope it's a great day for you today.
Happy birthday! Hope the rest of the day goes great for you!
So, how does it feel knowing where the music that played when Phil Spencer came out on stage at Las Vegas Fanfest came from?
The composite shots of Tuna and Val in this 🤌
I've found ever since finishing Endwalker that one of the things I've enjoyed the most has been listening to people theorycraft about what exactly is going on at the point in the story they're at. Glad you guys are really enjoying MSQ! Looking forward to you guys getting deeper into Endwalker and beyond!
Didn't expect that ending line "In comes Fandaniel with the CHAIR!!!!" 😆
All of y’all’s edits are so good (that intro!!) but the “home sweet home” poster on the wall of Elidibus’s ‘apartment’ is by far my fave for this vid. Can’t wait for you guys to see the rest of the expac!
"The Latte is made of evil" is being added to my list of things to quote now thank you
Now I need a starbucks style logo but instead of the mermaid it's Anima.
10:44 That is a REALLY interesting observation and the first time I've ever heard of it. I never considered that a huge part of the WoL's edge is being one time more rejoined than any of their opponents. We get that context in shadowbringers but I totally missed that it also means *everyone else* is one time less rejoined, including Zodiark.
except for G'raha. G'raha's our BAMF in arms.
Thumbnail on point. Editing on point. Entertaining throughout. Thank you for your amazing work.
I'm feeling so much joy watching this journey. I'm glad you guys move at a snails pace because no one does it as well as you do and I have something to keep looking forward to.
"Hythlodaeus doesn't strike me as a ponytail man"... ROFL
I'm glad you focused some on Amon's final moments and his attachment to being Amon. That's one of my favorite cutscenes, at least for this part of the story of Endwalker.
Fantastic recap, and Endwalker only gets better, enjoy guys.
The fact you guys can be simultaneously so right and so wrong at the same time I think speaks to the quality of the writing. So much of the story intentionally leads your mind to places but its not predictable despite that. It combines familiar tropes with subverted expectations to constantly exceed those expectations. Zodiark was telegraphed so long ago as a final boss but they put him first to show us all bets are off now... also just a great fight.
so grateful for this channel, keep it up guys
I can't wait until they're at the end of Endwalker, looking around and saying "...Jesus, this is not AT ALL how I expected things to go."
So many things I would love to say but ... a smile better suits a hero
Same, but after finishing the whole expansion, it all made sense.
I await/look forward to these videos from you guys just as much as the MSQ streams. These theorycraft vids have only gotten better and better. Can't wait for more.
My Zodiark experience was Kyle's Zodiark experience. I could NOT figure out the platform rotation. My death count was astronomical even for a DRG.
I can't wait to see their reaction to the rest of the moon
the opening edit was beautiful, so sad i missed the premiere but you guys are cooking and i am here for it!!! cant wait for the next stream
You are absolutely right and totally wrong and everything in-between, its glorious 😆
Waiting for you to continue and discovering the rest of the story of EW and beyond
I love how much effort you guys put into shots like 0:13 where you edited both of your clips together, looks so cool.
Its kinda funny, nobody tells you not to kill Zodiark but Emet spent an entire expansion telling you of his glory and after the rak’tika dungeon, why he was summoned. I didn’t connect the dots until after the fight but woops, too late 😅
Fine editing on that intro. Loved Zodiark piercing his heart to the music.
wonderful directing and editing on that intro! I try usually not to comment before finishing a video but like, come on, that was a damn good job.
The intro editing on this is GREAT.
Also - FANDANIEL FROM THE TOP STAR WITH THE INTERGALACTIC CHAIR
Zodiark being reduced logically is even mentioned in Shadowbringers.
They naturally looked towards the dark because like they explained in shadowbringers Light is stillness Dark is Energetic they needed the energy.
Thank you for keeping up with the music video openers. =D
"Multiple people can pet one dog" just sounds like the wildest euphemism to me... I mean I have no idea what it could refer to, but I know it's dirty.
OnlyFandaniels is the voice actor's actual twitch account
Man I wish i'd caught this close to when it came out... because I really want to point out that Zodiark isn't inherently evil. He is literally the desire to save the star. It's why all the voices inside really disliked Fandaniel taking over. Because he wanted to use Zodiark to destroy the star. Something completely opposite to it's original purpose.
They did warn you, Emet said that Zodiark was created to rewrite the laws of nature and halt the Final Days. This is why Hydaelyn split him in the first place. She couldn't kill him, or it would allow the Final Days to resume.
You guys are in for a ride. I'm so excited!
Endwalker trials are some of the most fun fights I've done in a long time.
when that Ancient says "Believe" it absolutely sounds like Emet at first.
The cooking was great and looking forward to the meal tommorow!!
screaming so hard, cannot wait for you to continue
I hit the Zodiark fight on day 3 after launch and, hot on the heels of Never-Ending Story dog, the volume of WTF? was staggering. So much of the EW story just blindsides you.
It's the only trial I've done that 1st group didn't complete in time and voted to leave. Got it 1st pull with the next group.
These videos are always so well done, absolutely amazing work guys.
Where do we pilot the moon? Why, to Azeroth, of course! Crossover event? Nah, this is a full-blown invasion!
I was so cautious about the ending of this game too, but after having gone through it, I PROMISE you will be satisfied.
As my Nana used to say, "Now we're cooking with gas." :D
these boys are firing up the grill and cooking real good
i have no proof to back this up, but the first time i saw zodiark’s face my first thought was “looks kinda like xande?” so i like the believe fandaniel made zodiark look like xande as a grand gesture to his beloved emperor
Really fantastic editing work on the opening montage
I mean, Fandaniel started with a face we already wanted to punch.
Oh yes... so much left for you to see...
Regarding the Evil Latte Connundrum, i always figured that the Ether juice was used for the laser to break the seal not the teleporter itself since allagans had teleporters since, well, always and they didnt seem to require any "people juice" lol
Hello from Walt Disney World! Great video to watch during our break from the parks!
"If the FAMILIAR fits, you must acquit!". I think I disturbed my neighbors with how hard I laughed after Garrett said that. Lol!!!
Would be cool, I like the idea of going from God slayers to God Saviors.
Maybe its just how i interpreted and internalized all of Shadowbringers and its patches, but going into Endwalker, i had a pretty clear idea that Zodiark's very existence was protecting the planet from the final days. I felt like Emet was pretty clear that summoning Zodiark worked.
Oh nice catch never tought about that. With Zodiark gone there should be no more pressure on Hydaelyn. She is free to go all out.
I cannot say how much i liked that video. Cannot wait for more msq so u have more question.
I read the title bar of the last third of the video as "Oops All Final Days" and laughed
Wow, that intro though. These videos and followed by the MSQ streams make my week. (Other streams are fun too) I'm just gunna sit here and until you guys are current. Enjoy the journey 🙃🙂🙃
