It's an iconic scene, and it's supposed to make us root for Derek here, but I can't help but think that it's what he deserves from her. She was ready for him and then she finds out he was married, he can't divorce his wife and then proceeds to go back and forth until he decided he loved her the most. Now he has the audacity to come say he wants to see other people if she doesn't take him back wholeheartedly??? Man I was young when I watched this show and thought it was all so romantic, but now watching it for the 5th time again as an adult really changes perspective.
Same. I watched it for the first time a long time ago and I'm on a Grey's Anatomy high again. However, I think they're both partly at fault. Meredith should communicate more and Derek should be a little more patient. Nevertheless, you can't deny that are both so in love with each other.

I always hated her with other men bc Shonda always made other relationships seam like they are perfect. I love the Derek/Meredith relationship bc it's real and how real life looks like... The fairytale relationship doesn't exist and it's not what I wanted to see from the show, Meredith and Derek were perfect bc they weren't
ffs at this time she even confided in richard but not derek. he was right, she was constantly leaving him and only him, she didn’t do that with her friends. plus what does his divorce have to do with anything? they were way past that at this point, he had already divorced addison, he told her to choose finn, they were on good terms and he was right to want her to stop pushing him away. if she didn’t want a relationship with him just say so and put him out of his misery.

She met and fell in love with Derek, discovered he had a wife, got her heart broken, tried to put herself back together, had Derek constantly playing with her emotions, met Finn, discovered her father started a new family, lost her mom and dog, nearly died more than once, lost Susan. And you expect her to just be able to be fine and make a choice after all of that trauma in a single year?
this is so emotional, probably one of the best scenes
This scene is so emotional and memorable, it made me love Derek more and I wanted to see him happy even though it was not the right moment, Mer & Der are everything, they were love

Did I miss something? Just a couple episodes before this he was contemplating his relationship with Meredith because he wanted to be chief and she “compromises that”.
Then he flirts with another woman at a bar and told Meredith it was the “highlight of his week” ... and now he has the audacity to pull the narrative “I’m all in this and you’re not”...? Tf? Derek sucks. Why do we romanticize them so much??

there’s something really irritating about the people who defend this man to death. no offense to the mcdreamy lovers but i’m watching this scene and i’m remembering all the other scenes and all i can remember now is not the man i loved when i was younger.... but an incredibly manipulative person who did the absolute most to make meredith feel bad without properly acknowledging her pain and hurt and upset.
it’s especially concerning to hear about how he met a girl in the bar (lexie) and he didn’t do anything but he could have, but then turns around and says “i love you though meredith.” like that was supposed to be a wake up call. if a guy said that to me i’d tell him to go find the girl in the bar lmao
They were both extremely messed up and immature people when they met. They were both horrible at relationships and were constantly hurting each other. However, their relationship with each other was strong enough to push both of them to keep trying to change and be better. They slowly made each other better and healthier people.
@@junbh2 it was only strong because the plot needed it to be. they did not make each other healthier people. this was a toxic couple that was a romanticization of abuse, manipulation, and codependency. they were not good for each other. no matter how hard derek tried, he would fall back into attacking meredith if she had an opinion that fell out of line with his. meredith did mature and she did grow but she needed therapy before anything else but constantly denied it. cant imagine being able to really work on myself or my marriage when my husband says i’m exactly like my neglectful mother every time we get into an argument. i understand people really like them together but this is truly not a relationship that i would ever call “strong” with a positive connotation of any kind.

Meredith could of had a stroke.
That stroke lead her into a coma where she dreamt up all the seasons since before Derek 's death. When she wakes up...Derek 's there with the kids more grown up....George didn't die....all the rest....but she doesn't remember Derek, she doesn't remember her kids, nor being a surgeon....she learns who she is in the next seasons.....her adventure is finding herself again.....the end of season show is leaving to find herself again..on her terms..... sounds like a good idea for a script to me.....its TV
ANY of that kind of stuff is possible with TV ..awww the joy of fantasy...writing.....

I related to Derek in such a profound way. Honestly, Maradeths character and the way she "handled" matters made me hate her. She is a very contradictory, selfish, and wish-washy person when it comes to Derek. I had always hoped Derek would move on.
Derek is probably the worst nice guy in the history of nice guys. He left her over and over again.
They were kind of awful in the first seasons and it was amazing to see them grow
She has every right to be, Derek constantly left her and he gave her reasons not to trust him. For example; he didn't tell her he was married, he kissed rose after he told her that he wanted to build a life with her and called her a whore for moving on. He hurts every woman he is with. Meredith deserved better than him.
