  • Hello and welcome to the RC Plane Addict, a place when I can share my passion and addiction to RC Planes.
In this video I share with you the result of a scratch built wing on a scratch built plane, the FT Simple Cub.
Let me know your thoughts in the comments and happy flying.

What receiver are you using? My Lemon receiver (in my FT Simple Cub) has caused me several crashes. Found that in autolevel mode it will add down elevator as the throttle is advanced.
Noticed the pop sticks on your undercarriage: do they somehow reinforce the landing gear?
BTW, tough bird. I've got 6-7 crashes and the thing still flies.

Hi Bill, in this plane I have the Orange RX 6ch. from Hobby King. Never had any problems with these inexpensive RXs. Also, yes I have been trying different ways to reinforce the landing gear because the metal rod tends to pull through the foam board over time. It is a work in progress.

@@RCPlaneAddict I got the same problem with my landing gear. I'm thinking to bend that foam peace 90° and then Velcro to the bottom of the fuselage. My thinking is on hard landing it just strips off without hurting anything.
Maybe use balsa wood or thin plywood in place of the foam board?

So the popsicle sticks work great as hard points for the metal to be up against, and from Dollar Tree you can get a ton dirt cheap. The layout on my plane looks messy because I added slowly as I saw the metal wire work parts of the foam board. In the future, after painting the board, the area is to be covered with packing take to protect the paper, then reinforced with the wood from the popsicle sticks to make hard points for the wire.

Did you ever figure out the problem/issue?

Bill, I never did, in fact after that video I have not tossed up that plane. In all truth this plane has always been a bit strange to me, and since then I have had a similar issue on the Havoc, where the plane became suddenly unresponsive and locked up in a weird attitude till it hit the ground. Could it be the new NX 8, or just a fail in the RX, or a ESC going bad? Your guess is as good as mine. This hobby can be perplexing to say the least.

If it pitches up when you add power while upright, re-mounting the motor with more down-thrust will improve it both upright and inverted. Might also benefit from moving c.g. aft a bit, too.

      Agreed. Thanks for the tip.
