USMC 64 -- 68. Well July 15Th 1965. I had to miss all of this most of the time. I was in Vietnam and spending most of our time in the Jungle doing the Front Line fighting. Thank you for posting this video.
0:22. ABC did Saturday afternoon MLB games in 1965. The broadcasts were blacked out in the home markets of the teams that were playing. ABC covered every team but the Yankees and the Phillies.
The Alphabet Network would not return to broadcasting Major League Baseball until 1975, when it aired "Monday Night Baseball". ABC brought college football voice Keith Jackson as play-by-play announcer. The network was capitalizing on its success on "Monday Night Football", by scheduling baseball on Mondays during the summer.
Thank you for posting these. I have a note from my TV Guide research in the early '90s that the repeat of Terror Island was scheduled for July 15, 1965, but was postponed to July 29. It must have shown up in the listings for both dates.
Just three days later, WLCY-TV in St. Petersburg/Tampa signed on the air for the first time, although it did not officially become an ABC affiliate until 9/1/65.
I have an episode of Hullabaloo from around this time where NBC sponsored their own shows. The norm of establishing separate promo segments with commercials didn't start to become commonplace until the mid-70s, where beforehand, you get the occasional bumper in the middle or end of the show, so that for one particular show every once in awhile, all of the sponsors would just be network promos.

The network sponsored itself.
They couldn't sell *all* of the commercial breaks, so they filled them with promos and PSA's.

2:16- "Get in on the 'ACTION'! Weekdays at 2, 1 Central Time, on ABC."
3:37- *"....SCORE!* The new CLEAR hair cream that keeps hair clean *and* manageable.....without being greasy."
They grab a guy with a big forehead for that Score ad!
Those dorks sure ain't gonna score!
Does anyone know why ABC was the only network to sponsor it's own programs ?
