What makes this so exciting for me is that it looks like they have greatly expanded their production pipeline so ow might finally get a decent stream of new content. I play both rivals and ow and while I feel like ow is the better game I think rivals is by far the better live service product and I think ow is building their capacity to match that.

I don't think Doomfist is dead. They said he was "defeated," and they didn't show his body. I think he is alive and will come back for revenge down the line. I could even see an "enemy of my enemy is my friend" arc where he allies with Overwatch to take down Vendetta.

But if you show all your cards at the front of the year it’s really hard to keep and build smaller hills of hype. Hinting to new modes changes, events, maps. Is cool now cause if they go over all of that at this point in terms of news cycle the game will struggle to build momentum later in the year. 5 hero’s immediately, story focus, 5 mode this year is a great BAM moment up front, we know hero’s are the biggest draw, I love getting excited about them and being able to be hyped for the And More for the rest of the year.

as someone who recently soft-quit overwatch to play deadlock, I felt the same that the new update are good, but i can still see myself not playing overwatch over long time at all

I think the challenge thing for overwatch for characters is that for rivals people know what to expect cause they are marvel comic characters they all ready famous. Whlie overwatch they have to make a new everything for characters. Its gonna be tough for overwatch make a multi role hero, cause for rivals is deadpool. And it make sense because it would be Deadpool. Cause he already famous and known to be the 4th wall breaker.
There is double edge to MR's devs being able to use already well established characters. It's certainly easier for lore and visual design. On the flipside, they have to take an existing set of super powers (with many characters being far more powerful than others according to comic book canon) and turn them into a kit that feels both fun and fair to play, while still evoking what those powers should look and feel like. Blizzards's devs, while needing to design from the ground up, don't have to worry about adhering to existing canon or pissing off long term fans with a bad translation of a character into the game.

About the discussion at the end... I started playing on original release. Played off and on for years. Through all the ups and down, the move to ow2 and everything. Up until the mythic mercy skin season. After I completed that battle pass I have not returned. I tried rivals but no role q was a no go for me. I may be in a minority there as the game seems pretty popular but I felt like if I was going to play a game like it I would rather play OW. And everything they showed here was cool. And a part of me wants to come back and play it again. I think I have just found other games and genre's I would rather spend my time playing. I feel like if I came back, I'd want to just mess around with the new heroes and uninstall after a weekend.
Also why didn't they call Jetpack Cat "Jet Cat"?
I will say something about this news. I am someone who started playing Overwatch in 2016, stopped playing because I lost all the friends that I had that played it and over time it got less and less fun to solo queue, and then I never really got into OW2 (downloaded it for a weekend here and there but never actually got into it). Then rivals, as a tank player rivals was SO much fun, till season after season it got more and more frustrating to play and it felt like I mattered less and less till I just couldn't have fun playing it at all anymore. This news genuinely made me re-download OW, this genuinely made me excited, even if they mean nothing, they brought me back into the game

Rivals took so many ability and character kits and abilities from OW some characters like Mag and Sigma are almost 1 to 1 where some other abilities were put on other characters styles like Hulk playing like DVA mech and baby DVA. Given that I love to see OW take rivals ideas and abilities because its cool shit. I love Ultrons Primary and big lady tank and now I get both of those with Domina. I like taking the Emma invis aoe damage and push and putting that on Domina as well. That’s awesome to remix, change, have new shit and you get whole new characters
You know I was a little sad Flats started playing overwatch less but Im happy he's enjoying other games. That "They asked me to remove the OW and I said no" weirdly made me happy. Glad you're having fun and branching out to other games you enjoy. Still my favorite streamer no matter if we play different games now.

I mean yeah he's a content creator and he was paid to watch it on stream. Why would he turn that down? The core gameplay of Overwatch isn't fun and hasn't changed in any meaningful or fun way like the community has asked for so why would you stay on a game like this instead of Rivals that actually listens to their players and has far better content appeal than whatever this is.

Mercy is on the high end, Kiriko is the Lux, Mercy is probably more like Miss Fortune or Jinx...it's been a while since I've done League so that could be inaccurate nowadays. But she's like top 5 high skin earner

Honestly, the only thing I could think of for overwatch bringing back old players or bringing in new players is by making a really good, dark, and serious, cinematic. Something that rivals the old stuff but pushes the story forward. It seems like they're going to try and do that, but I don't know if going to be good enough. (In my opinion)
I will never play overwatch again but I do love seeing the updates 🙏 although it is funny to see how much they’ve taken from marvel rivals actually throw paladins in there too

idk if anyone from blizzard would ever see this. but. interactable sprays. I saw a ticktacktoe in the spotlight and it brought this up. like imagine being in spawn, waiting, and a spray such as ticktacktoe, and you can interact with it, spraying an x/o and whoever wins, it automatically strikes through. Or you could make one for people who are close, such as Torb and Brig, Rein and Ana, maybe Widow and Ana, etc

For me the lore being a focus again IS the innovation. Like, they got their entire story team nuked and had to rebuild it and the lore is what brought me to OW in the first place. The return of the story is the return of Overwatch in my mind.

Tbh it seems like a terrible send off of doom. His thing is being calm, cool and collected. A tactician. A person who knows on how to win the fight before even stepping up to it. He lost to a fighter who just showed up. He knew about her since he took over a Talon. For reference when he was fighting Tracer, Genji and a monkey, when it whittle down to tracer, he was going for the accelerator. If he studied his opponents beforehand, or he figured this stuff out in the middle of a fight shows off his ability to think ahead and deal with problems. A waste of an important story piece. This feels the same as sylvanas defeating the Lich.

Which i agree, is only good for us, an one day theyll copy voras scythe mechanic where its melee with range. It feels cool because you have melee combos for shooting, the feel of it is why i mained vora, zhin and Caspian in that game.

THANK YOU MARVEL RIVALS, you lit a fire under their asses and now they're cooking. I love both games. But OW was so lackluster for the last couple years. I look forward to the future for both games. Competition is good.
At this point the game is what it is. All the improvements are fantastic, but if it’s not lighting a fire in you then it never really is going to. I think this is a great and polished game, but it doesn’t pull me to it anymore. Rivals just has my attention more. The IP carries it a lot for me. I don’t even think Rivals is objectively better either.
My suggestion:
I think if OW increased the gameplay pace it would draw more people. The neutral is definitely the beauty of OW, but sometimes it feels like a tact shooter. When I was introducing my friend he said he had fun, but there wasn’t enough dopamine. Which I lowk agree with.

3:28:25 I won’t lie, as someone who hasn’t appreciated overwatch content in a long time, and after the absolute disappointment that overwatch two was when it came out, I gave it a small chance and pretty much uninstalled. This news might be enough to bring me back. I’m actually considering installing this weekend to see how the new hero plays and see if it’s worthwhile to give them a chance again.
Unfortunately, unless Overwatch swaps their focus to 6v6 and puts 5v5 as the "alternate" mode, I just can't play the game. It's just not the same game as it once was unfortunately.

@tntzne well for staters, off tanks can be worthless most of the time. and since tank isnt popular youll end up with 1/3/2 most of the time. Also, 6v6 is still a thing and it has comp. Sounds like to me youre just making excuses.

Bruisers and sharpshooters are the categories causing the most issues for the game... why tf do they have the best passives? Like movement cooldown on headshots is the most busted perk we have seen yet, cassidy is gonna be rolling all days.

So gonna be real...what did you even want? Like own of the main things you kept saying in the stream is that you felt like something was missing but you couldn't tell what it was. You kept asking chat but for the most part no one had an answer. Because nothing was missing, the spotlight gave everyone practically everything they asked for, features and changes they'd be wanting for years and yet somehow somethings missing. I mean if you can't think of an answer and no one can think of one either then it's safe to say nothing is actually missing. Like you expected something to happen but you never asked yourself what that something could be.
I think that if literally any other game had done this spotlight event after a 10 year run it would be fielding massive praise. Blizzard permanently ruined overwatch's public perception and there's nothing they can do tbh.
That being said i feel like theyre intentionally withholding a lot of more specific info for this year to generate hype or suspense or something and i think it might be the wrong move for aforementioned reasons

OW is clearly trying to be innovative with the new sub role, going head first into the passive. We can not like it but it's clearly their way to make the game a new experience

I think what makes this spotlight hit less than expected is probably because it's safe, they didn't really do any risky stuff like a new mode or something similar. It's also revolving a lot around nostalgia, like the cards are back, old animatics are back, they're focusing on the lore again, heroes that were rumoured years ago are finally playable, and they even dropped the 2. It's basically a rewind, and I don't mean it in a negative way, I love what they're doing, but I can see why it can feel a bit off to some people.
Ffs, they cooked on the spotlight and then flats goes on a negative yap with the same shit conversations that's been had for the last two years instead of highlighting the new content.
Just leave overwatch content for good, doesnt matter whay they do your not gonna be pleased. Only sticking around to milk the income.

Cool new stuff. Happy for the Overwatch players. I have almost 2000 hours in Overwatch, but stopped playing it years ago. The game made so many bad decisions in my eyes, that it pushed me away as a player. While I was playing Overwatch, at the end I was hating it. But then there came a breaking point for me, where I became apathetic towards Overwatch. And apathy is the absolutely worst emotional state a consumer of a product could be in. Now, every new thing they add, I just don't care anymore. Not that it matters, since I've been happy ever since I picked up Marvel Rivals in return, so as long as Marvel Rivals keeps delivering, I'll continue to be a happy player.
I wonder why everyone looks at Overwatch for something to blow them away, but Marvel Rivals doesn't have that condition. I play both games, and the last thing that blew me away was the zombie game mode. Overwatch has, in fact, blown me away with 2 consecutive spotlights now. maybe im wrong but its seems to me like everyone has a higher bar for OW than they do for MR
I think for a lot of people ow has more disappointments that it has to make up for than rivals does so people look for the one big thing that will make up for that.

Comparing an event to spotlights? What in the spotlights "blew you away" like you say? Marvel Rivals is barely 1 year old compared to Overwatch's 10 years now and you're confused on why people have a higher standard for Overwatch right now? If someone has 10 years experience of sniping would you expect them to perform better than someone who only has 1 year of experience? Marvel Rivals devs LISTEN to the community, they talk WITH the community while Blizzard takes years to implement things that the community ask for. The community has been asking for years for a Ram dance emote but still nothing, the community for years has been asking for them to add back LFG (which they hinted at adding in a future season) but everything the community asks for takes literal YEARS to be implemented. Since Overwatch 2 released people were upset that it went to 5v5 and it took them years to add 6v6 back and even then they don't update it or give it any care.

Most gamers are always looking for the next thing. Now, OW held the title for best hero shooter for a long time because there wasn't really an equivalent. There was nothing new that was of similar quality

I don't think you realise that games that make it to over 10 years of continuously being a staple in the gaming industry isn't very common. And you didn't even address the second part where I asked who you think would be better at sniping, someone with 10 years of experience in the field or someone with 1 year? Not a trick question but its to put into perspective the difference in experience and history in this particular field.
