Sodium bicarbonate actually works better. I do use peroxide, and it works like a charm, but peroxide takes away the natural acidity in the ear canal, so a rinse with steam distilled water (cool, of course) or a solution of vinegar and distilled water is good. The natural acidity helps fight fungus in the ear. I dont really get bad wax buildup, but some people do. If you use earbuds all the time, remember to disinfect them everyday, also - keep the outer ear canal clean to avoid infection.

I use Debrox, which has a little bottle of hydrogen peroxide that you can put drops in your ear. You can hear it fizzing in your ear, softening up the wax. After about 5 minutes of that, hold your ear downwards and use the syringe (supplied) to squirt warm water upward into your ear. Out comes wax, cotton fuzzballs, whatever. Instantly I hear much better. I've been using this for years and haven't had a single ear infection since. (Before, it was chronic).

I'm a singer and was pretty desperate, because my ear was blocked by earwax. Completely deaf and couldn't perform anymore. Had to cancel shows. The doctor tried to flush the ear twice, without any result. It felt like the ear was closed. Then I tried a salt solution by myself, and also a rinse with soda. None of it helped. Until I saw this tip. After two rinses with H2O2 my ear was clear and I started hearing again! Thanks soooo much for this wonderful tip Dr Mandell!

For whatever it's worth, I've had this problem for decades, and I've never been really successful at cleaning my own ears. My ENT fussed at me for using hydrogen peroxide, saying that it is a drying agent, and that's not what the wax needs. It apparently works for a lot of people, but not for me. He said that at least twice weekly I should drop in just a few drops of oil - even olive oil if that's all that available - and leave it in there all day. A little experimenting will teach you how much is too much, since it will promptly overflow and drip down your neck. But when you find the right amount, it really does work. I was seeing the doc four times a year to get it cleaned out, after trying everything from bobby pins - which I definitely don't recommend - to a WaterPik, with which I managed to puncture my eardrum, which is exceedingly painful, so I don't recommend that either. But the oil softened the wax beautifully, and when I saw him again, it took him less than five minutes to clean both ears, compared with a very painful half-hour the time before. It's simple and cheap, so why on earth would you want to use anything else? Good luck!

If your ears are still impacted, you should go to an ENT clinic and have them cleaned out. A lot of times impaction cannot be cleared out using a dropper solution. You need a skilled medical professional who can go in and scrape out the impaction. This way you can use the solution for maintenance going forward.

Hydrogen Peroxide products like you show in the bottle are generally 3% Hydrogen Peroxide H2O2 and 97% water H2O, and when the Hydrogen Peroxide reacts with the earwax (oxidation), it turns into water and also releases oxygen (bubbles). Don't use more concentrated versions in your ear. I keep the 3% stuff in the ear for an hour, a couple of minutes doesn't do much for me, but your mileage may vary.

    • @saty580
      @saty580 3 года назад +7

I saw an ENT RUclips video where the ear specialist mentioned that the ear canal is lined with a thin layer of cells that slowly move the ear wax out of the ear.
Using a Qtip inside the ear canal can damage those cells so the wax moves to the damaged cells then stops there and builds up forming a bigger blockage.
Avoiding use of Qtip inside the ear canal may give the cells a chance to recover.
Anyway, add this to the list of dangers.

When experiencing a problem of wax build up in the ear? Sometimes it can get bad enough it causes you're hearing to be impaired.. and do things like mess with you're equal librium.. laying on your side, and filling that ear with hydrogen? You can hear it boiling .. do this for 10 to 15 mins .. and then flush with warm water over a sink or a container witch ever .. how many times should you do this? It all depends on the severity of the build up.. i had a case so bad it took like 3 days of doing this but when it broke? I seen a large portion of wax flush out and it was like the ear drum poped lol and my hearing refreshed .. it was so cool to find this way of getting the job done without having to go spend all that money to see a doctor .. this method is the best, and easiest way to eliminate wax build up in the ear.. yea i know its gross but when you see those chunks flush out? You are soooooo relieved those build ups are not in your ear anymore and you feel greatly relieved.. this to me is more effective than any method the doctor introduced.. and so easy its crazy.. using the blue applicator that was shown here to flush the ear drum? With warm water the wax comes right out like butter .. hydrogen peroxide causes the wax to no longer have a stickyness and it cant cling to the inner lobe so it easily flushes gone with no problem..

This can be done 1 - 2 times a week and is very effective. Also, the trick about letting your warm shower water get into your ears as you shower is a good way to maintain the removal process.

In case the ear canal is totally clogged to the point where your hearing is impaired, you can just buy a Murine ear wax removal kit sold at most supermarkets. The wax might not come out on the first day, but usually the second day everything will flush out in the shower with the bulb that comes with it. Just fill the bulb with warm water and plunge it into the ear while facing the ear down. It's designed to not cause too much water pressure but enough to flush out the melted wax.

@@jdsdeepcutsundaytracks4426 The drops are carbomide peroxide liquid and after it softens the ear wax clog you should be able to rinse/flush it with the rubber bulb-plunger that comes with it. It takes a very strong squeeze of the bulb/plunger to get enough water pressure in the ear while your ear is facing down in the shower. Last time I couldn't get the clog out with the water flush so I just kept using the drops as directed and the wax eventually drained out on it's own over the following 2 weeks.

I will keep my swabs for makeup and such now. I used to use H2O2 to clean my ears. I would lie on one side and drop the H2O2 into the uncovered ear. Let it sit in there for a couple of minutes and then turn my ear over into a towel. Carry on to the other side. It doesn't hurt one bite. Makes a crackling noise though. But, it feels so good after the cleansing.

My understanding is that the wax is produced as protection for ear drums. I believe that. There was a time that i used to carefully remove wax but then, always noted that whenever i used my left year on phone, i would not hear well or as well as the right ear. I then follow a tip that i read somewhere. It simply said that wax is produced and is a protection. I use cotton tip to just clean the outer dried wax. Not inside at all. I noticed that new wax produced, pushes out the old one and when at the outer layer, it dies. You simply clean that. Its now more than 15 years and i have been doing just that. No hearing problems at all. Not had any infections of the year! I used to swim daily and still no infections.

*#4- i use **_unrefined_** extra virgin organic coconut oil because it contains lauric acid & MCTs, is antibacterial, antifungal, antimicrobial & antiviral & contains tons of antioxidants & phytonutrients. THAT's what pediatricians & GPs should be recommending.*

Like many commenting I have been doing this for years. But I would wait too long until it was a problem and yes, syringe with peroxide and then flush with warm water. Would need to do it multiple times usually, but when the gusher blew, it was orange and gross and felt so good seeing that blob in the sink. One major change I made is using a spray bottle with the peroxide. Makes it much easier. Just tilt your head and spray, wait, spray some more. It will bubble and make noise, you know it is working. Actually, the spray bottle makes almost everything you do with peroxide easier.

Hello doctor. After serving military service, it happened to me this ear wax clog due to the super dusty place of the training centre. So what I did I went to a specialist and he just prescribed an immediate drainage by the use of suction machine. Seemingly a smooth method but I can tell you that I had to repeat the exercise twice later until I consulted a veteran doctor of 80s who then prescribed 7 days of almond oil drop (don't remember now whether it was bitter or sweet almond oil) and then applying this rather big metallic douche pumping water into each ear with amazing results I mean each time with the suction machine it was like tiny germs hardly coming out but this time the whole lot out in one shot only. I believe the method though a bit old, it goes just fine because the goody of the oil is that while it gathers together the germ particles but also maintains the place's essential lubrication after the operation. God bless

@@davesraiders5519 You have to do your own research. I'm not going to tell you what to do but I can tell you what I do. First off, I buy 35% food grade Hydrogen Peroxide and add enough distilled water until it is 3% Hydrogen Peroxide. This is an even purer form of H2O2 than to the OTC (over the counter) H2O2. Secondly, I have a healthy diet and lifestyle. If someone is going to eat a lot of sugar and processed foods and then rely on this as a cure all... no, in my opinion. But if you have a healthy lifestyle and start to develop a sore throat or feel a cold coming on, yes this is what I do.
Originally I was using H2O2 in a mist (nebulizer) to breath in to get rid of colds. Dr. Thomas Levy, MD in a interview with Dr. Joseph Mercola, MD recommends this to get rid of CV. 👍😊
This past year I had seen a video or read about putting H2O2 in the ears, and to be honest I was a bit nervous about doing that. As a mouth rinse and to cleanse wounds or sores... I had been doing that for years. But, in the ears that made me nervous. However, a sore throat was starting to bother me and I knew it could turn into a cold so I gave it a shot. When I lay on my side and put in the H2O2 one ear felt like it was just full of liquid and no difference. Then I turned over on my other side and put in the H2O2. My opposite ear immediately began to make a rice crispees sound as it bubbled up in my other ear. After 20 minutes I let it drain out. I waited overnight and repeated this in the morning with the same reactions. On Day 3, I did so again but no further bubbling up and no more sore throat. In future I will be doing this again.
You could look up some videos and see if anyone talks about this method. If I had a damaged eardrum in any way, no I would not do this. My comfort level for me is that this is safe and effective for myself.
      Best wishes.

Use cotton wool to wipe off the excess which will come out but don't block the ear in anyway. Sleep on an old towel. A week of this will clear the worst build up.

He shows the actual video footage of him going into the ears with the tools to clean out the ear wax. Of course, nothing in the ear was the worst. Using hydrogen peroxide was better. Using olive oil was the best thing for loosening the wax.

I’ve use hydrogen peroxide, along with mineral oil afterward (mineral oil will soften any ear wax that is in the canal), with success in the past, but one time I couldn’t get the wax out. So, I tried to loosen it with a Q-tip, and that made matters worse, compacting it in the ear canal. I don’t think I hurt the eardrum, but I went to the store and bought something called Debrox, and used it repeatedly along with a ball syringe and warm sea salt water (don’t use iodized table salt for anything, including your food). That got it out. Debrox is the way to go if you have a bad ear wax problem, and you can then maintain it monthly or weekly with hydrogen peroxide and mineral oil after that.

I use the blue ear flusher which comes with a Earwax Removal System from CVS Pharmacy in the USA and in Canada you can get the Murine brand. Both have 6.5% Carbamide Peroxide. Once you have the blue flusher the next time you need more drops, just buy the box without the blue flusher. I use a clear dropper which I put 10 drops into in the morning and before bed for 3 days then I do the flush. IMO with my experience if you get water in your ears with wax in them, then the wax will swell and will be harder to get out. I used to go the the walk in clinic twice a yr to get my ears flushed which became a pain, cause I would have to add oil into my ears for a couple of days to soften the wax, but now with this kit, I do it myself at home.

My sister-in-law did something with a candle & some kit. It helped temporarily. My grandson's ear wax was do bad that his hearing was impaired for 12-18 months prior to age 4. It meant speech lessons & social complications. Yes, he was seeing Dr's.

It sounds like you're referring to "ear-candleing" You can get them at Walmart or other drug stores. It's a long cone-shaped tube and you put the narrow end in your ear and use a lighter to light the bigger end (they're about 12" long) You hold that in place, keeping the outer end lit until it burns the "candle" down as close to your ear as it safely can without catching hair afire. Then just blow it out and look inside the tube. There's usually all kinds of gunk in there. Takes about 10-15 minutes tops but it really draws out alot of gunk. It's basically a 2 person job. The patient and the Mom/nurse/Dr. (who holds the tube in place and keeps the big end lit) I've done it to my kids a few times. They say it tickles sometimes and they may get a little impatient having to sit still, but they're fascinated with the amount of gunk that comes out...

  • @Dazyredfox87

Much respect to Dr. Mandel. This is my first hand experience. I went to a Dr once a week at a very young age to water irrigate my ears. I would never recommend this, especially if you often get vertigo or headaches. Its very damaging to the ear drum + getting infections with the potential to spread to surrounding structures arnt worth risking. If you do try it .... consider DISTILLED WATER, keep your ear facing the ground & be sure items are sterilized well. Best wishes

I agree with you. I stopped putting water in my ears and my ear infections stopped. If you must, try ear candeling. It’s wonderful. Also try chewing gum. It works well to keep eustatian tubes open.

Wishing all the best to all of you with ear problems!
I have "CAREFULLY" cleaned out the earwax in my ears for the last 50 years! The dumbest thing I ever heard was using a TURKEY BASTER to squirt H202 in your ears!
    Here's what works for me.
    1. Hot shower. Wash "outside" of ears with wash cloth.
    2. rinse out ear with hot water from shower head.
    3. After getting out of shower and dried off, I grab a dozen Q-tips and CAREFULLY twist the Q-tip in until I feel a SMALL amount of pressure is felt. Back it out, look at it and then throw in trash.
    4. If it's clean, I'm done. If dark. another Q-tip.
    5. Every couple of months I do the H2O2 with an EYE DROPPER. Lay on the bed on my RIGHT side and squirt a few milliliters in LEFT ear, wait 5 minutes, then roll over and let H2O2 drain Then turn on LEFT side and squirt in RIGHT ear.

Literally nobody recommends using Q-Tips anymore, I’d argue the turkey baster might be more effective used properly

CVS makes the best syringe for getting out impacted earwax. It has 5 holes which aim in different directions. I had to use debrox to loosen for a few nights, then after using this syringe aobut 8 times, a ball of wax came out, gross but satisfying

Hey Dr. Mandell, how many people you know that has gone deaf using cotton swabs. If you do not push wax right on to the eardrum you are fine, just swirl it around while moist, and you are good. After all this is being used for generations now.

  • @KatherineUribe-1
    @KatherineUribe-1 10 месяцев назад

Please consult a professional ENT before putting anything in your ear. You could burst your eardrum with a bulb syringe. Also, if there is a tear in your eardrum some substances are ototoxic (toxic to the inner ear) and could cause serious damage. Your hearing is very important. You deserve to have a specialist look at your ears and treat you if you have a problem.
