    What a great lesson. There are a lot of RUclipsrs who produce convoluted jazz instruction videos that are often confusing. This is the first video I've found in years that actually explains jazz fundamentals in a very clear, coherent and systematic way. Amazing.

    Thanks for making this. It must be the best of it’s kind. I appreciate if for the systematic approach and the effective use if voice over the keyboard.

    Where can we get the suggested fingering? I downloaded the pdf but there was no finger numbers.
    I normally just make sure my thumbs don't end up on the Black notes.

      You commented this forever ago but maybe I could still help a bit. The way I understand it, you should always insure that your fingering remains the exact same while you run up the keys (past a single octave). For example, your fourth finger on your right hand should always be the finger to hit C# when playing a D major scale past an octave. Your third finger should always hit the A on a C major run and so on.

    Thanks

    • @dannuttle9005
      @dannuttle9005 4 года назад +1

      My advice: Go slow. One note at a time. Pause and think. Learning scales with both hands is hard at first, and takes time.

    • @andersonlarios7257
      @andersonlarios7257 2 года назад +1

      Slowly... No short cuts. If you're making the same mistake over and over, you're practicing too quickly. You'll gain speed with time

    great lesson love it, still - as a beginner i strongly recommend to break it up in smaller junks to learn, so one is less likely exhausted.

    • @hunterkogelman3558

      The major intervals up and down the scales? If so, just do however many keys you can get done in the 10 minutes, then write down the ones you completed. The next day, work on the remaining ones. So on and so forth. If you have a ton of time you can definitely do them all, and you’ll do more within those 10 minutes as you practice, but you can burnt out trying to do everything in a day. After you get good, pick a certain amount of keys at random and see what your weak ones are and focus on those. Good luck

    About the intervals: when going up in 3rds, D-F is a min3, E-G is a min3, as is A-C. When going up in 4ths, F-B is a tritone or an aug4. So what are we really praciticing when doing this?

    • @PianoGroove
      @PianoGroove  5 лет назад +2

      Hi there! By doing this exercise, you are visualising the different intervals within each scale - instead of simply running up and down in a linear fashion. Improvised music is more than just running up and down scales, and so this exercise will help you to see scales in a different light. Hope this helps and learn more at www.pianogroove.com - Cheers, PianoGroove
