That’s pretty hilarious. “Oh it’s got flavour”, then a few minutes later we find out why 😂

Polyethylene should not be used in citrus waxes as citrus peels are used in many foods. Polyethylene is a plastic that should not be eaten.

Why? It's edible and won't harm the consumer of the lemon. Who cares if it's a natural product or not?

@@ThaEurasian We've got more than enough examples of synthetic polymers degrading into biologically active compounds, we should absolutely be erring on the side of caution. This isn't even going into the dangers of otherwise chemically inert microplastics...

@Codina Flavius yep its found on everything from crayons to fruits to cheese to most candy. A lot of chocolates use wax as well. Last i checked Lindt uses polyethylene to keep it structurally sound but I'll need to double check that one. Hershey's chocolate uses a lot of paraffin wax to keep its uniform shape and gloss. Although that's also a mixture of other oils for Hershey. Waxes aren't bad for you, just not digestible. They just get expelled as waste once it's been pushed through your system.

@Codina Flavius also another fun one is organic vegetables. In all technicality, the carbon footprint of organic vegetables are much much higher when you factor in the need to use more organic pesticides and on occasion more water. The increased use of pesticides also leeches into vegetables more easily because it's an organic substance. Not enough to harm you, bit it's still interesting. Kurzgesagt made a great video about gmos :) check it out if you have a moment.
