The stiffness of the NK65e isn't necessarily due to the alu plate, it's more that the mounting system of the NK65e makes the plate so rigidly in place.
so glad to finally see some footage of this thing in the wild. I'm stoked to finally get my hand on it. I went with the smoke color. March can't come soon enough
I'm really interested to see the final smoke color. I think this black was supposed to be the smoke but it wasn't translucent enough so they went back to the drawing board. The black solor I have is likely going to be available as extras.
So glad I went in on this GB. Got the Smoke version. Can't wait for it to arrive. Nice review. Surprising how much value we get, especially a PC case for so little and PCB mount stabs
@@amathine440 They aren't referring to wait time, there saying the portico is a one time group buy, whereas the nk65 is in stock and has been consistent with restocking it. There is no competition since there is a rare groupbuy that wont come back, vs something that will.

will you be reviewing the kbd67 lite by any chance? I feel like currently its a battle between that, the portico and nk65. until bauer lite comes out at least
With south facing switches popping up all the time. We need a keycap manufacturer to get on board and start getting shine through south facing legends. The more I think about it, I would really like the way it will look with my legends at the bottom of keys instead of top. BUuuuuttt here we are, just waiting endlessly for both ends of this market to meet each other in the middle.
Thanks for the review! They look very good for the price, but i just dont like the colored keys, make them look a little bit cheaper in my opinion … Maybe some material that would make them look a little bit more metallic or glossy would be coolest. Hey man, on your review about the Schiit Magni 3+ and Heresy you says that the Heresy is better for planars because of the details that i can provide, and the Magni 3+ is a little more smooth right? The Hifiman Sundara is a planar too but some people say that it can be sometimes too much piercing, especially with the wrong amp. Knowing that, would the Magni 3+ be the best option for the Sundara (and HD6xx, who already is smooth)? Or do you have any better option on the $100 price range?
Don't sleep on the KBD67 Lite. I got it in Transparent. If you want a blocker on your arrow keys like me the NK65 is out. It's a fantastic entry level case.
Excellent review. I ended up selling my NK65 due to the lack of split backspace support. The CU65 is a (albeit a bit more expensive) 65% w/ hot swap support that supports both split bs or standard bs (as well as ISO aka fatty enter, 6.25U or 7U spacebars and stepped caps lock). I'd love to see an updated hot swap PCB and plate from NK and KeyDotCo that is a bit more versatile wrt layout support. And yes, having the switches pull-out when swapping keycaps is very annoying (which did occur on my NK65) and it's concerning with regards to the hot swap socket longevity.
Another absolute banger. I’m not even in the market for a new keyboard and I watched this. I saw the analog dreams you flexed as well. I slept on that group buy and regret it everyday.
This is looking pretty solid for the price. Always nice to see more affordable options come into the market. Might have to pick one up just to check out when the extra's drop. Great review Brian!
Kbd67 lite does everything Portico does, but cheaper, and with a polycarb plate (which I personally prefer to fr4), and abs case In either case I'd still replace the stabs (kbd67 uses cherry) for some Zeals or Durocks (something with a built in brass thread in the standoff) I've used c3 equalz a few times, and every time at least one thread strips while finger tightening. Also: you burger mount the nk65, for a gasket mounted feel, using silicone o rings, so if you have one don't feel pressured to chase one of these.
Depends on what keyboard you have, if you have a hotswappable board then just go with which ever. You can always get other switches and compare to see which one you prefer. This hobby has a really good second market so you can always just sell it if you don’t like them and buy new switches to replace! Otherwise just listen to sound test on RUclips and read reviews on reddit!

I'm confused about which switches are in which portico. In the breakdown before the sound tests, it's kiwis in clear/ pandas in black, right? But the text during the actual test says the reverse. It's admittedly late here and I might be mistaken.
