Lol! I'm glad you could join us! It was a fun talk. And thank you, we're definitely on the mend.

I really like Stay Awake, too. Hope you feel better soon!

Hope you and the rest of the family are doing much better now, and that everyone is on the mend! Was pleasantly surprised to hear you mention me, though it’s unfortunate we ended up feeling pretty similarly about White Ivy. Hope reading turns out better for you the rest of the month!

I absolutely lovvvved Stay Awake as well! I just love her social commentary mixed so naturally into a thriller. I liked Night Swim but not quite as much. I think I read Stay Awake in less than a day 🤣

Delilah Green is on my TBR and now I’m even more excited to get to it! Stay Awake sounds really good so I’ll definitely have to check it out. Hope you and the family feel better soon!

Subscribed to Ben. Also, so glad you liked Stay Awake. I've been tempted by that one. And it looks like I need to read Delilah. Everyone likes it! Take care and rest!
PS. I think I'm glad I decided to opt out of White Ivy. It sounds like a lot of what I hate to read about. I've found that even family drama that truly edges into psych thriller is just not my bag.

I hope you recover from Covid soon! Such a bummer that so many books didn’t work out for you so far this month.
I read The Stardust Thief and loved it. I’m reading Book Lovers and am loving that one too. It’s been a slow reading month for me compared to previous months.

Bummer it was a month with so many duds! at least you're making more room on your shelves for better books! 😅
Re: your feelings on White Ivy, I get exactly what you mean. I feel like it's possible to write an ending that intentionally doesn't "solve" certain things but that still gives the book meaning, and I feel like some authors need reminders of that...

Yeah, the one or two Sarah Maclean books I’ve read haven’t worked for me either. The premise is fun, but I felt like the book started to lose steam after the 50% mark.
Since Indigenous People’s History for Young People is a condensed version of a longer academic work, it makes sense that it reads like a textbook. But perhaps it would be better to just read the unabridged academic work in this case? They are actually around the same length.

Since Queer was not the best, can you recommend a good introduction to queer theory?
July so far has been really great. Lots of new favorites which is good after April, May and June not being the greatest for me.

Everyone is getting Covid right now, it feels. Eep! This has honestly been a slumpy month for me. I am not sure if true summer has just hit my house and I am having trouble finding time to read, or what is going on, but I am not getting through the books like I was for the last few months. Hope you all feel well soon!

I'm interested in Slaying the Dragon but wow there is a lot of drama with D&D sometime 😅 So sometimes I worry about those history books. I've read one or two to where they get really "purist" about the source material and ignore the current game and state of the fanbase.

I have definitely been wanting to check out some Stephen graham Jones books but not sure if read this one, but I do want to read the only good Indians and my heart is a chainsaw. I also hate the term unalived.

I gave up on Sarah MacLean a few books back. I just don't gel with her at all.
