Ah the wonderful phenomenon that is Blancmange. They were a great addition to the musical landscape and 'fun' was definitely part of the mix in their repertoire.
Yay! Blancmange! Big fan here. This was their first major label single, the first from the Happy Families album, a double a-side with "I've Seen The Word". Totally agree with Julian about the David Byrne influence here - vocally it's clearly influenced by Once In A Lifetime. It is kind of bleak, and a little tongue-in-cheek, but at the same time if you don't believe , or lose faith, then where do you look for him? The band consisted of Neil Arthur and Stephen Luscombe. They split up in 1986, did various solo and other projects and then reconvened in 2011 to make a new album. Stephen's health issues meant that he had to step back and since then Neil has produced 10 Blancmange albums, as well as albums collaborating with other people under the names of Fader and Near Future. And it's all really good stuff (though quite different to 80's Blancmange). (Yes, I have it all if you want to go deeper).
This was on Happy Families their first album. If you can look up the cover artwork as a cat lover I think you’d like it. Also, it might just be me but Neil Arthur’s vocals at times sound a bit like David Byrne…
Allright for Blancmange. It’s only up from here. Game over Your Head, Blind Vision, Don’t Tell Me and and other dark polished tracks are hard to beat. This one is good but lower on the list for me. Think they got better.
@@mattsnider2667 Watch the video at some point though. They spliced the ABBA video with themselves, so looks like they are both working together on it.
You pronounced it correctly, but it ain't no delicacy! Ask anyone who was at school in the UK during the 70s and 80s, and they will remember school lunches........Blancmange with a hard skin on it.................and want to puke in their mouths at such thoughts.
@@mattsnider2667 It can be really good (think of it as jello and what you call pudding over there were combined into a wobbly pudding that holds its shape, usually chocolate, strawberry or vanilla flavour.). The school lunch version was made in bulk, so not the best quality.

And this band were featured on/in Flight Of The Navigator. They were the music video that David was watching while locked up at NASA.

Yes, it is a greatest hits. Getting the individual albums on CD is.............expensive! I'll see what I can do though.

Whatever you do, don’t listen to their cover of ABBA’s The Day Before You Came before you get to ABBA’s version!!
Haha, understood! And cheers, appreciate that vital tip, Gareth.

I see! Thought it was a tasty treat, but now you have me thinking Oliver Twist!
