The Legend of Zelda Echoes of Wisdom Review

- Опубликовано: 26 сен 2024
- The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom offers a link between the two worlds of Nintendo's iconic action-adventure franchise. It has the playfulness and freeform puzzles of Tears of the Kingdom and the traditional dungeon design the franchise was known for prior to Breath of the Wild's seismic shake-up. Echoes of Wisdom deftly bounces from past to present and establishes its own identity, turning the page to start a new legend for Princess Zelda.

It's rare to see Gamespot giving such an high score. They're usually pretty cold even on successful titles (or in the best cases they don't give more than 8)
So they first made 2D Zelda, then they made 3D Zelda. And then they made 3D Zelda inspired by 2D Zelda, and now they made 2D Zelda inspired by 3D Zelda. It's like they're caught in a loop of success.
Suffering from success -Dj Khalid
i think it's for feel the gap since game like totk take years of devolpment
This is more of Zelda in the style of Link's Awakening remixed with some basic mechanics/ideas and the style of BotW and TotK. I always felt Link's Awakening on Game Boy was sort of its own style of Zelda game because it mixes the over the top camera perspective with the side scrolling platformer perspective (usually when you go down ladders,) plus it also has its own unique enemies. Capcom also made the Oracle of Ages and Oracle of Seasons games in this style on Game Boy Color. It's really cool that they brought it back because I think it was the best style of Zelda game in the classic form.
That bug insane , starting all over again!
I haven't seen anyone else mention any bugs. VGC, Nintendo Life, and God is a Geek..
That’s what you get for pirating.
@@ZVvereVvolf nah you actually get free games when you pirate
Seriously though, the dudes playing it retail what’re you on?
Idk why some people dislike the toy-like art style. I think its super charming. Tbh my guess is people find it "childish" but honestly imo people who feel that way have some growing up to do themselves. Reeks of 10 year olds who need their games to all be gritty and realistic to show how "mature" they are.
I think it's fine too. I think it's nothing to do with growing up etc, but rather their experience with Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom means they want that as the new standard.
I greatly prefer TOTK and BOTW too, but they're more of a 1 every 5 years game for Zelda. They need smaller games in-between too, which is where games like this come in, as well as the remasters.
@@Patrick-y4d1zexactly
I just dont think it look as appealing as it should. The toy designs feel like a step below the style for Link Between Worlds, and other games like the Plucky Squire do the chibi/toy style much better.
People had the same problem of the artstyle being too childish with Windwaker's artstyle when it first came out. The truth is that stylised games like EoW and the Link's Awakening remake always age phenomenally. Windwaker is probably one of the best games at capturing that sense of pure adventure; there's absolutely no reason for people to write off EoW just because of its artstyle imo.
Oh lord lol No… Maybe some people just don’t like it would prefer something more appealing to everyone rather than just a younger demographic.
that bug is unforgivable... you need to restart from scratch everytime you encounter it wasting 8-12 hours of your game progress.
I haven't seen anyone else mention any bugs. VGC, Nintendo Life, and God is a Geek..
What bug?
It has to be a fluke thing that happened to happen to him. No other reviews are bringing it up and that’s not a bug they can ignore. So it’s obviously not consistent through all copies.
Just have differents saves, Like I have.
what is the bug mate? so i can try to avoid it or look to see if there is a fix
My biggest worry was the game was going to go down the same rabbit hole the two wild games went down, but thankfully it seems to be addressing some of the things fans like myself missed about the series. While it still seems to carry the same menu management and combat problems, everything else seems to go back to that classic style. I also like how sidequests give more rewards than rupees
thanks to the warning about the bug, ill know to save the fire area for later in the game to give nintendo a chance to fix said bug

a bug like that in a zelda game is super rare, will likely be fixed at launch id imagine
It’s about time the first part of the title “The legend of Zelda” is accurate

Great review. Probably the best one in terms of showing off what you can actually do with combat and how big the world is.
I’m glad to hear you can do the dungeons in any order. I always thought that was one of the biggest strengths of Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom.
oh god, you must be under 18 if you really believe that

Someone felt like lying about their final score in the comments, so the actual rating is a 9. Timestamp at 9:51.
Dude that bug is crazy, I would give this game a 5/10 if that happened to me.
I haven't seen anyone else mention any bugs. VGC, Nintendo Life, and God is a Geek..
Bugs like these are commonly patched before the public release (in case of nintendo at least) significantly lowering a score (that will be there forever) for a bug that will probably be fixed in a day is a bit excessive. That being said, its a shame its there in the first place and really hope it gets patched asap
May be patched already. Version 1.0.1 is out
Oh man if you did that kinda stuff then 90% of the games out there would go down to a 2-4 score. Considering how most games nowadays need massive multi gig Day one patches and fixes and a lot are still buggy and with unfinished elements.
One small only happens rarely bug that is in the pre launch version? That will take a nintendo style update meaning less than a couple min once you click on the game? Yeah. I am not to worried.
@@nunyabiz7699 This bug ends your game entirely. You can't finish the game if it happens. It's a completely unacceptable issue, especially late in the game, as it happened to this reviewer.
I don't want to watch full reviews to avoid spoilers, but the comments about a bug are concerning. Can somebody please timestamp what they're talking about??

Just cause not everyone experiences a bug, doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist. Different actions can trigger bugs or avoid them
Most likely there will be a patch released to fix it with in the first couple days of release. Good thing about these updates is they tend to be small and would only take a few extra min. I have had games not update for over a year and the updates take 5 min or less to download and install.

Dear Nintendo, stop being afraid of PC's. I know that you guys are terrified of modders and pirates, but be brave.
Nintendo isn't afraid of PCs. They just have zero interest in the market since they have the best selling consoles. Why would they cut into their console sales?
@@mokinokaro To expand their user base. Why limit themselves to their proprietary hardware that struggles to run certain games when they could branch out to PC gamers who have more vigorous systems?
@@DripSplashWaterDripSplash Why would they need to? Nintendo remains one of the ABSOLUTE most successful publishers of games of all time. They OWN AND CREATED a large number of the most profitable franchises of all time. (Like Pokémon) And they Honestly did it by going the Opposite route of X box and PlayStation. It worked to. They have not needed to do Massive layoffs. Did not need to acquire studios. Or have all the other crud but the switch is the third best selling console of all time. And is CONSIDERABLY younger than the 2 that beat it out. On top of that they have some of the best game sells. They Printing money over there.
Why would they jump on the Over inflated Graphics are King band wagon that has sunk like a weight around the neck of Sony And X box. And why would they give up their IPs when the incentive is only a few extra dollars but less control?
Its working great for them. And only a Tiny part of the game market do emulation. A large portion of them are just gonna pirate it anyway. So honestly does not seem to be worth what would be lost. Exclusives sell consoles.

Im a little worried for dungeons reverting back to traditional. I hope we're not looking for the usual compass or... owls beak
Been playing this game "legally" the past days and I can say that dungeons are crafted with the echoes in mind so no need to worry with that stuff.
Aesthetically, this targets younger audience but gameplay feels complex for them.
I don’t really understand why this art style is seen as targeting children. I feel this “trope” is out dated and doesn’t fit with current culture. Things that are bright and colorful or have a cartoon like art style aren’t necessarily “for” children. It’s just an artistic choice and I personally feel it appeals to all ages. Being an adult doesn’t mean you constantly want things to be grey and brown and “serious”. We should move away from this idea as a society. It keeps people from having fun.
@@pruett89totally agree. Seems like it's ironically usually younger people who are obsessed with making sure their games don't look "childish", insisting their need to be seen as grown up themselves. The game looks gorgeous and cute and fun. Nothing childish about that.

If they where then why did Zelda creators since breath of the wild till now give out pre warnings of worry regarding the direction and how the games would be perceived i.e. as empty.@@sayzar9474
@@nicneam"pre warnings" seriously? Lol, firstly, please provide a direct quote or source before alleging things like that. Secondly, empty space in a open world game isn't necessarily bad thing. Sure, it can be when a game becomes defined by its emptyness but it serves its purpose to make discoveries stand out when you trek through rolling hills and valleys to find them. It makes you feel like you actually found something. You're allowed to not like this style of Zelda adventure but it's a real Zelda experience regardless of whether or not you prefer it's direction.
People act as if BOTW and Tears aren’t good cause they don’t hold your hand like a baby .
If Zelda kept going in the direction it was with skyward sword the entire series would have fell off . BOTW was a much needed change .

Now all we need is a Ganondorf spinoff with a twist on how he infiltrates all dungeons, imprisons/kills the sages, corrupts the spirits/summons the dungeon boss, and prepares the invasion of Hyrule.
He doesn’t summon anything, he doesn’t get items or powers up his weapon. He just warlock punches and suave dances his way through.
Those 60 fps to 30 fps drops are so distracting though...
Wish Nintendo would've just capped it at 30. If it was targeting 60 but dropped down between 50 & 60, I'd be fine. But the double buffer v-sync has it go straight from 60 to 30 then back to 60 constantly. The dips are so large that it doesn't make since to not cap it at the most stable frame rate.
@@corey2232 Yeah, I know the Switch is at the end of it's life, and I've been playing Astro Bot so maybe I'm just spoiled by how insanely clean that game looks and runs...but these frame drops are just plain shoddy.
I mean within the first like 10 minutes of the game, you enter Castle Town and are greeted with some hard choppiness. It just felt amateur, and reminded me straight away, "Oh yeah. I'm back on Switch."
If I had a nickel for every time Gorons caused a bug that broke save files in a Zelda game, I would have two nickels, which isn’t a lot, but it’s weird it happened twice.

Nintendo to the rescue - again - to deliver an outstanding game.
8:19 - There's a game-ending fatal bug when trying to enter Goron City? That makes the game unacceptable in its current form. Disappointing.
I know an 11 year old boy who refuses to play anything that most would consider cutesy. He only wants to play what for his age is definitely not age appropriate. Stuff like Gta, call of duty, mortal Kombat etc.
I keep trying to open his mind to the fun colorful world of Nintendo and some fool Teenager or young adult has warped his mind to think that the only good games are the gratuitously violent ones. It's sad really. Hopefully someday he'll grow out of that thought process.
A 9 is crazy, what a joke!
Nintendo always gets special treatment.
You are putting this game up there with others such as The Last of Us, God of War or Eleden Ring and its nowhere near them.
Its still baffling how easy it would be to implement a better inventory system but Nintendo refuses to do so. A simple one would be pressing once on the right d pad opens the menu, then just split the items into categories instead of all of them being a single row. One example would be one row for monsters, one of items/furniture, and one for flying/insects/miscellaneous. You can even add a favorites row that you pick yourself. But no, all 150+ items, single file please 🤦
I think it's crazy how you had to restart the game because of a bug and still gave it a 9 tbh. I don't know how widespread that is, but I would've been pretty mad about that.
Pre-Ordered it and currently playing. It is does give a fell for a "create a your own platform world" but only if you find the necessary items
