    Love my Roly with similar rotary setup but utilizes Lightburn which I use for most of my artwork.

      The Wecreat software makes it easy... but I still prefer lightburn overall

    Thank you for the video.
    Can you engrave inside of a tray with sides? Do you have to do something with the autofocus to focus on the correct height?

    • @GeekBuildersNet
      @GeekBuildersNet  3 дня назад

      You could possible engrave the inside of a tray. You would possible have to set it at a slight angle and make sure that the focus height does not lower the machine lower than the size of the tray to avoid a collision

    @GeekBuilders Thanks for this video.... Do you coat the design with anything after engraving?

    • @GeekBuildersNet

      No coating is needed, or recommended. Thanks for watching

    I really like the machine a lot. Looking forward to getting back to it once my ankle heels.
    I have not hooked up the rotary and I think it will be great. Only thing is it does not seem to have a way to do tapered tumblers.
    The Xtool rotary can be tilted and I have done that. The LaserPecker rotary has a tilting head.
    What are your thoughts on this and any options for doing the tapered tumblers. I know a little taper might not be a problem.

      I don't have a solution for the tapered tumbler yet. I'm hoping they release a first party fix for the issue. I need to spend more time experimenting with the machine.

      Not a deal breaker but I have been working on an attachment in my CAD program. Maybe not be worth the work but I enjoy making something work.

    Where do I get those silver prong attachments??. I’d like to engrave small items

      They should come with most rotary engraver purchases. If not, most major diode laser manufacturers should have them for purchase in their shops.

    So, I’ve got questions. What’s the maximum diameter for the material in the rotary fixture (swing)?
    You skipped placing the tail stock side of the rotary. How do you make sure the tumbler is square with the laser head?
    I do woodturning and would like one of these to embellish my pieces. How accurate is the rotary with matching a pattern that goes around the whole circumference. If you do a geometric pattern in a ring all the way around the tumbler, could you get it to match up?
    Thanks for any advice. Great video.

    • @GeekBuildersNet
      @GeekBuildersNet  3 месяца назад

      Maximum diameter is approximately 6 inches. As far as the tail stock, it is not required. It is quite different than turning on the lathe. The rotary turns fairly slow and there is not real physical contact with the tumbler or whatever you are engraving. The tailstock support is only used if the main chuck jaws cannot grip and hold the side sufficiently.

      And for a full wrap design, yes you can get it to match up, but some testing and planning ahead is required.

      I don’t remember exactly, but it was probably 70% power and 200mm/s

      Customer service is improving and the software is constantly getting updated. They are a new company, so they are still working through some growing pains.

    Yall have a 2w, 20w and 40w, which is the best for engraving tumblrs

    • @GeekBuildersNet
      @GeekBuildersNet  Месяц назад +1

      Theoretically 40w would be best since you can engrave at higher speeds. I just received my 40w in the mail, so I will be putting this to the test soon

    Can you engrave on a plain stainless tumbler or does it need a coating? I have a ton of plain stainless tumblers and would love to be able to use them. At least for learning.

    • @GeekBuildersNet
      @GeekBuildersNet  5 месяцев назад +1

      You can engrave on stainless steel, but the process is extremely slow and it is difficult to get consistent colors and/or engraving quality at times and it's not the best indicator of how a typical coated tumbler engraving will look. I usually use the same one or 2 tumblers to test on and just respray paint them when I need to run a new test.
