I can proudly let you know I’ve done this now! Very pleased with how it turned out. I also mounted a sub and amp rack in the space underneath the trunk floor (with it raised a bit). I previously had a sub box standing in the trunk so this was a big upgrade.
Auto manufacturers use honeycomb cardboard for privacy shelfs. Would be a stronger and lighter material than plywood. I used two sheets of carbon fiber.
This stuff is pressed hardboard. It’s really light, strong, and cheap. It’s the same stuff manufacturers use for trunk floors to cover the spare tire. Carbon sheets would be awesome though.
Looks good, not a criticism as such but maybe a slightly thicker piece of ply next time, maybe take out the sag? Looks good though and I'll try it in my 08 Clubman 😉
Thanks, you should do it. It doesn’t sag. It’s lower in the front than it is in the back. Combined with the panel curve just makes it appear that way. It’s 1/8” thick, it’s actually quite stiff.
I feel it depends also on it. Im gonna do it on my 99 ek hatchback and plan on doing road trips and sometimes sleeping in it. So i’d have to make it extra sturdy. I am also going to put straps to the base to hold my jack and tool box too
"don't buy a rear seat delete kit." acting like we didn't come to this video because we own slightly more obscure vehicles that will never have that available lol
I need some more card board. You helped make up my mind. I went out and took out the rear seats!
Thank Man!
Glad I could help!
This was very satisfying to watch. I love DIY projects like this. I’ll be creating a floor for my r53 now
That’s awesome. Thank you. It’s really easy, I hope it turns out great.
You can buy sticky Velcro to attach it down to the carpeting works pretty good too
Awesome video. I’ve been thinking about doing this myself and this made me more confident. Keep it up!
You should! Thank you.

@@recklesslyfestyle hi, my apologies, it must be the angle too. I'll definitely be giving it a go. 😉

How come you didn't paint the wood black instead of carpeting
I wanted it to look almost factory. The carpet only weighs a pound or two so it was worth it to me.
Nice job Man!
Thank you.
well I was looking ot abarth 1000 tc, and this came on my watch list
Abarth’s are awesome.
What are the dimentions you used on for the floor
I don’t remember. I just made a template out of cardboard and transferred it over.

Haha. There are some available for the Mini but they’re ridiculously expensive for no reason.
nice job
Thank you
Hello, looking at doing this, what was the size of plywood you used please.
1/8 inch. It’s not strong enough to sit on but holds groceries etc with no problem.
@@recklesslyfestyle brilliant thank you
Is it possible to send out the dimension of the DIY rear seat delete kit? REPECT🤩🤩🤩
Haha there’d be too many measurements to send. Thank you.
