Well, from reading different types of stories and what not, I think that if he had called the police they may not have interfered. The reason I think that is because in some countries / cultures it could be considered a 'family matter'.
I think that the reason why he had paid them for the child is so he could just get him out of there! My understanding from reading/listening to different stories such as this one, is that if he were to have called the police then it could have been considered a 'family matter' depending on what country/ culture the story could be based in.

Given Henry's condition, Ryan and Scarlet should have been accused of child abuse. With the greed they had shown, how sure was James that they wouldn't come back for more. He didn't need to pay anything.
A millionaire would have called police, not paid a cheque, or at least immediately told bank to cancel it before it could be cashed, especially not paid again! Blackmailers would always want more. The couple should have been arrested for child abuse straight away and for having stolen the baby. At least good ending.
How can they treated the boy so badly? While he was cleaning the floor they keep throwing food on the floor. It really hurt to hear and watch how the two abused Henry. But there is a father looking for him. As walked through the street he heard a sound coming from the house of Scarlet and her partner. James decided to approach the house. He heard and saw a boy lay down on a old matress. He is sick and no one care for him. The couple get angry when they saw James and told him to leave. But James stood his ground and told them the boy need medical help. But Ryan and Scarlet insisted for him to leave. But later they saw him well dress and change their attitude invite him into their house. He saw the little boy sick and need a doctor. The couple want to sell the boy to James which irritate him. He was surprised how they treated Henry. James did not want to buy the boy but take him to the doctor. But they won't agree so James has to leave. Henry decided to leave but was caught by the couple who put him in the basement. Ryan still forced Hemry to work even he was sick. I can't believe Ryan and Scarlet are so cruel to the boy. James could not sleep thinking of the boy. He return and was surprised to see Henry was cleaning floor. James offered to buy him which made Ryan and Scarlet smile. James should report the couple to the police for abusing the boy. It was good James took Henry to the hospital and told Henry he will take care of him. What a nice ending for Henry. James finally found his lost son.
This is a terrible story to begin with because there has been so many laws broken especially giving them money when they should be in jail and punished !
What about the nurse who kidnapped the boy and then sold him? Seems there is more to this story that could be told. This is only a story here, but there are children out there waiting to be found.😢

I was just about to ask the question of why was the boy rescued in the first place. But the arrest of these criminals came too late in the story and no money should have been given to them. The story wasn’t written in the right way and it is still not satisfactory
