Making a raw canvas ready to paint on is not so hard as it seems. I do this at almost all canvas´ I´m painting on.
At first you have to look, that the the gesso, oilground or whatever you will take as ground, can not sink into the raw canvas. This could crack or damage it over the years.
So a good and proven barrier is waterbased (rabbit-) glue.
This is the first layer that comes onto the raw canvas. You can also take it for wood boards.
After the glue has dried, you can continue with layers of gesso, a half oilground or an oilground, depending on what you prefer.

voll informativ. toll! sag mal , wie heiß soll denn das wasserbad sein? ich sehe ,daß es nicht kocht und du es anfassen kannst....evtl 45°C ?
Das Wasserbad sollte nicht über 50-60 Grad werden, sonst kann er seine Klebekraft verlieren. Normalerweise löst sich der vorgequollene Hasenleim schon deutlich früher.
