Your fig trees are looking nice and healthy, Conor. Hopefully, there is enough time for some of them to develop 🤞. I noticed my in-ground Brown Turkey has started putting out a lot of main crop figs, but there's no chance they will ripen, I think it's a late main crop producer anyway, so likely not possible without a head start or greenhouse.
Thanks Peter, yes I think BT is quite late, and I don't usually see maincrop on BT trees, even on huge trees that are growing in ground in the area I live.
Hey! I've only just found your channel (Gem in the garden referred you) I have a successful Fig tree that I inherited on my plot. Your cuttings are impressive! Gonna take some time binge watching! Subscribed. Danny 🌱
With tomatoes you pick out the side shoot to limit the amount of tomatoes a plant is ripening and improve quality. If you limited the number of figs your plants are growing would it speed up the ripening and improve quality in the same way?
Yeah definitely! Especially in cooler climates, with container plants. Next year when these trees branch out, I will probably limit the number of figs each plant puts on, so that they put their energy in to those figs, and ripen up in time.
Great to see your success.
Hopefully you will get a few main crop figs Conor, we need an exceptional August and September 🤞
Thank Brett. Yes, especially a warm Autumn as if they ripen, it'll likely be in Oct/Nov!
