My dad bought it when it was released and I couldn't understand it because I was like 9 years old. I'm 22 now and I think this is such a beautiful documentary! Very nostalgic too!! 🖤
This album blew me away on first hearing. It was like the kind of music I would be making myself if I was in the same position. I later found out he lived literally a mile away from me and I'd be running past his house on occasion. My favourite artist and I never knew how close he actually was.
I absolutely love the album Insurgentes. I own the dvd too and haven’t watched it in a long time. I’m glad Steven changed his mind about having kids. ❤
Watching this right after seeing SW interview on Rick Beato. Nice comparison of SW now and then back in 2008, he seems more relaxed and content now actually on that Rick Beato interview! Here he swears a bit more, a bit more uptight and that answer to the lady on the Tel Aviv beach: I PLAY WEIRD SHIT hahaha. Nice to see him grow not only as a musician and as a person. Isnt he married now too? Im gonna go listen to the new album when its out and not gonna complain or ask for PT to come back. I love every direction this guy takes as a musician, not just the heavy prog rock stuff. Oh and also, I write my own songs, first ever video I did for my song “Comet” was inspired by Stevens video for “Nowhere now”. You can find it on my channel. Thanks for the inspiration mr Steve Wilson and hope you keep making beautiful music that only YOU want to make.
I have watched this documentary at very important times in my life, Steven's music is such an important part in my life, he has been in my darkest times 🖤
Just absolutely massively enjoyed. The perspective of Steve's dislike of music being found solely on the internet but NOW in 2024, if it hadn't been for me listening, almost constantly to RUclips, I would not have really found his music, in all of it's forms, along with so many others. I still buy albums and CDs because I like the collection of the artwork, like he says, it kind of goes hand in hand when you love music. Thank you for this documentary, Steven Wilson. I've been paying attention to your genius.
Love this documentary and soon after bought the limited deluxe Insurgentes vinyl edition….and that sent me down the rabbit hole of collecting every subsequent SW deluxe set ever since! 🙂
Thank you Steven. Just been watching your interview with Rick Beato too. Can’t wait to see you live again. I’ll be coming down the shiny and contoured railway lines. Don’t smash any more iPods ;-) Respect. ❤
Glad of the chance to watch this for free on YT but seeing an irony in that - at least as a UK user - it was interrupted by one or more ads every THREE MINUTES. One of the last ads would itself have run for four minutes had I not tapped Skip for the 22nd time. Still, been a fan for nearly 20 years.
Bought this on DVD on its release; the best documentary of an album release, which is really a horror film homage, ever committed to film. A Blu-Ray bells and whistles release please :)
Watching Steven Wilson, Mikael Akerfeldt and Jonas Renske on the documentary. As Steven Wilson's Porcupine Tree's Opeth's and Katatonia's fan, that was marvelous! This album is indeed hauntingly, ghostly beautiful💀🖤
I wish my dad was like his,not the sadistic Monster whi did unsperakable things to tittle children and young andults. That is wehat makes me feel so glad for him,SJW.
This documentary is actually necessary despite the iPod "hate.," It is about an up and coming musician/icon who has to wrestle with the rampant vine and thorns of music production in general, going into the next age or generation of music and how it is processed 17:51 digested
It’s funny how Stevens “iPod protest” has aged considering that it has so rapidly become antiquated by streaming services. I’m sure it would pain that era Steven to know that I first listened to Insurgentes as an illegal download on my iPod using shitty headphones.
Beautiful work. As an aside, I can think of one musician who was good at both sport and music. Daniel Johns from Silverchair. He planned on being a musician or a cricketer 🤪! I’m so glad he chose music. I’m also glad Steven was bad at sport so that we now have the delight of his music to listen to.
I am bad at sport, a nerd for sure when I was young, I even wrote some music in my late teens and early twenties, but life got in the way (my excuse) and it went nowhere, I wish I had kept going now (I'm 49) but I don't think I have the dedication Steven has or his talent.
I kind of dislike the snobism against iPods and modern means of listening to music. I'm 47 years old now and also grew up before iPods and downloads. I listened to taped copies from vinyls on a children's cassette player! Talk about the sh*tty quality of mp3s and listening to music on your phone's speaker? It was very similar in the 70s/80s for me. Not everyone could afford the highest quality sound systems. I still enjoyed the music. And I still enjoy it today from my favourite streaming service even listening on my notebook speakers. And although I have the whole world's music at my fingertips now, I still carefully choose and select what albums I give my time to. Lastly I've been obsessed with the album "Say So" from Bent Knee and have been playing it again and again. On my iPod Touch. The difference is, if you bought an album back then, you were stuck with it without listening to it first. The consequence was that a lot of bands produced their hit singles and filled the rest of the albums with forgettable crap. You bought the albums for the hits and were left with an otherwise bad album. Today I listen to the good albums in full repeatedly and put the one-off hits I like in my playlist that I listen to when I just need familiar and pleasant music. Not all "things were best in the 80s".
I love the things he says about Tel Aviv... I've always been the kind of person who doesn't communicate with others, who avoids eye contact with others. I wonder if I should go to a place like that....
I wonder what is the perspective nowadays, with streaming and higher quality bands. I didn't get to experience the vinyl era, cause I was born in the 90's, but I do as a musician see the point of view of the artist and how to present the art. It's cool that at least as collectible there are still albums being sold.
Hahaha! At 1:12:00 the guy with Blue Tshirt and Blue jeans giving His back to the camera it's me. I remember that day, i only had enough money for a snack and for the metro because at the Time i was unemployed and i was forced to drop Out from school. When we came in Steve looked a little cranky and i asked if we could take a picture but one of the assistants said no in that moment because picture time was reserved for the listening party. People started doing It anyway and when It came my turn i took a couple trying to be sneaky but because i was so nervous to see Mr Wilson in person the whole thing backfired because i didn't set the Exposure properly and they ended up looking all blurry and with the highlights all blown Out. Hoo boy! What a cope Out that was! But at least i got my autographed copy. Anyway i also saw this documentary at a film festival, i still have my ticket somewhere and. That was an interesting day.
Haha Steven comes across as such as a Luddite in this interview. The fact is that the digitalization of music has opened vast new areas of opportunities for both musicians and listeners. Would not have discovered hundreds of bands if it weren't for streaming.
If anyone knows what music is being used that you can hear in the background of this documentary, i would love to know. I see that You can find " some" of it on the wikipedia page for this album.
25:36 "I used to spend the whole show staring at my shoes"
What shoes, Steven? :D
Lol 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
The greatest documentary in disguise as an existentialist horror masterpiece. Love it.
The other way around
My dad bought it when it was released and I couldn't understand it because I was like 9 years old. I'm 22 now and I think this is such a beautiful documentary! Very nostalgic too!! 🖤

Holy crap... Growing up in a family that actually helps you do what you love...
I loved your interview with Rick Beato Thank you and I just bought your book. Excellent so far
Can't believe this is now available for free! A true gem!
36:40...Steven W, Jonas R and Mikael A... how much talent in that room...
I watched this documentary at a strange time in my life and Steven Wilson's music has always been there for me in my darkest times. ❤️
there's a story there ! do share please?
29:54 The Iconic Duo haha Steven, maybe it's time for a new collaboration with Mikael. A Storm Corrison Part 2? haha
Completely forgot i appear briefly on one scene, i'm so happy i got to be a small part of this awesome documentary!

I waited three years to learn english that I could understand this amazing documentary, thank you a lot

2008 or basically the whole decade was great! The era before the social media, so many good memories.
Social media has a lot to answer for, but it's not going away anytime soon.
This is very significant, insightful and funny. Your music is substantial, precious, and full of integrity in my opinion.
Thanks for putting it up Steven... I was taken on a journey..
I really need a full room tour of Mikaels record collection!! Thanks for uploading the documentary!
Amped for this. My most listened to Steven solo record. Probably my favourite. _Salvaging_ is a masterpiece.
Really loved the visuals and dark ambient sound of this record.
Significant other is probably my fav track on the album.
its bass communion music
What a great feeling your documentary contains Steven, and a great pleasure that Mexico will always love you.
I watched it about 6 months ago, and loved music, visuals and all about it, cause I love Steven’s music a lot, even his psychedelic period
29:24 Steve went "oh yesss!" as he found Caravan's "In the Land of Grey and Pink" epic record

There is music in the background all the time! Do anyone hsve an overview over it all? Or just names of some of the songs? (Not the insurgentes songs)
