An added benefit is that your door might not bonk somebody on the head quite as hard. Or maybe you rent to some slight built ladies who can't safely manipulate the door...but try anyway. I'd look for even stronger good springs...lots cheaper than a stronger good lawyer! I really enjoyed this build and am encouraged to try one myself. Thanks for the series!!!
Yeah, I was kinda torn between "assist", and "it just opens like a car trunk". I ended up deciding "assist" was all I really wanted, and this fits that bill. However, when ordering parts, I really didn't know what the result would be! Maybe with a scale and some math, I could have come close..
Great job on the video series and the cabin build! 😀🪚 I am building the same cabin and it is helpful to watch and learn from your build. I like how you adjusted the height of your loft and allowed for open space up there. It looks much more comfortable now. I also like the brown tinted tufftex you chose. It looks great with the wood.
On your plexi door if you add velcro on the side edge and bottom and grab some shade cloth that will work for netting to help keep the bugs out when it is open. Almost forgot add velcro to the shade cloth. When your ready to leave peel off the shade cloth fold it up then close the door.
Nice build! My only concern is that the lifting wall is not secured shut. You put a high tech security lock on the door, but anyone can lift the wall like you did at the end of the video and bypass the lock completely. Maybe drill a small hole through the wall into the cabin frame so a bolt can be inserted to lock the wall down and pulled out to raise it.
That's probably a good idea. I guess I was thinking about other campers checking it out and didn't want them to just walk up and be able to open the door. It's certainly not obvious from the outside that the wall lifts up, but you're right, anyone could just lift it up. I may take your advice and add a locking bolt on the inside!
well one on the other side should help loads too. and even if it only "helps a little" when lifting, it will still make it easier to get the side up, nice stuff nice and well explained content, keep it up :D
Hi Phil- don’t know if you’ll read this as it’s been a yr since your video BUT watch “Girl in the woods” YT. She built one just like this and did an amazing piece with the awning door! Try that!
Hi Phil. Can you please let me know what the height of the loft is as well as the width now. Also, how long are the support pieces now? Do you have links for the gas struts and collapsible ladder? Thanks in advance
Buddy I suggest U used more bigger/long adjusted which equally with width flip flop wall on A frame cabin.rather than used small ones for car hactback.😁😁😁

So glad to hear that the gas struts were so helpful

Nice job. I’m in mid build on mine now. Hopefully will get a couple videos up of the build when it’s all complete. These are super fun.
i guess it's pretty off topic but does anyone know a good site to watch newly released series online?
@Terrell Layne i dunno I'd suggest flixportal. Just search on google after it:P -kaiden
@Kaiden Walter thanks, I signed up and it seems like a nice service :) Appreciate it!!
@Terrell Layne You are welcome =)
I've seen a lot with a pulley system that seems to work well
That's what I was going to suggest.
wow, ended up being easier than you'd think. Nice work, seems like a must add.
I definitely think some kind of assist is needed. Seen some other options, but this one was pretty easy and clean.
If you orient the struts more vertical than horizontal they will work much better. I have the same struts on mine and it can stay up without support.

Great ideal and nice a frame
well, and now I'm waiting for the stove heating!
I wonder if attic-stair hinges & springs could be adapted to the swing-out wall.
Update 3!! 🙏
great job! love it
Nice jorb

Восхитительно!
good thinking
I wonder if you could make it out of aluminum
where do they poop?
I have a porta-potty down at the parking area.
What side Uprights did you use for your main supports? not sure if 4m or 5m

Eh. I think they ended up working great. Just wanted a little assist.
it seems to weak for the weight
Les vérins ne sont pas assez puissants 💪💪
j'ai pense le meme chose
