Therion's these two albums, "Of Darkness" and "Beyond Sanctorum" are true epic masterpieces. Beyond Sanctorum is slightly better and more mature, and it certainly is in top 10 best death metal albums ever. Not only they are very talented in any means, but also they have a high understanding of aesthetics leading to a unique band that can come up with complicated but harmonious riffing at the same time making them Sweden's best death metal band.

I used to think it was too bad they exited death metal so early, but no good death metal band came up with a striking 3rd death metal album full of new ideas different from their early works. Now I am thinking it has been better they left death metal era so early, and left these two great albums which you can listen over and over and you can still find new ideas in it without never getting bored.

But Therion makes good music (it is one of my favourite bands) I really like their old stuff. But I like the new stuff aswell like Deggial and Secret of the Runes etc.. But I think the new stuff isn't that bad. It is different but I like it. I listen it sometimes and that is enough but I agree it is different like every album of Therion.

The two albums after Beyond Sanctorum were both very experimental and quite versatile records, but the die was already cast by this stage. With Johnsson evidently losing interest in extreme metal, the band sound swiftly followed suit, and by Theli It was anyone's guess where the music would go. It was a sin that the early fans were disregarded in such a fashion. The changes Johnsson made were so drastic that it seriously warranted a change in the band name, as it is like listening to two different bands. Unfortunately, Johnsson over the years has gradually steered the band into ever worsening territory, with equally depreciating musical merit. The greatness of Therion died years ago, with the band now reduced to a theatrical laughing stock.
It's okay,but I prefer the Therion with the choir,and all,also if I wanted Death metal I'd listen to Grave,and Insomnium,or Kataklysm.But still,not bad...
