    Yes the ships & crews have personal meaning to me too. I spent many summers during on Sugar Island as boy talking with ships crew using CB Radio. Extra special was talking with Edmond Fitzgerald crew. I still get tears whenever the song plays on the radio. I am now a crew member of LST-325 and enjoy talking with people via Amateur Radio 146.52 during my off duty hours as we pass near them.

      Can't wait to see it. I was in Sault Ste Marie last week for vacation and absolutely loved seeing the locks and the lake ships. I live in Davenport, Iowa on the banks of the Mississippi River and enjoy watching the barges go through the locks here.

    Stunning footage.... I grew up on the Canadian side, across from Brimley MI and have never witnessed ships from this POV...... excellent...... and 40+ years ago, the Cort was my favorite.

    Magnificent, beautiful, outstanding - are there any more adjectives to give to this production! The old, the new; the big, the not so big; views of America at it's best! I boated the Great Lakes for 35 years and can really understand the quality of this video. Thanks for this wonderful look at the Lakes. I only wish every day on the Lakes was that wonderful.

    Great shots of the traffic on the st.Marys river and the Soo. The boat entering the rock cut makes it look easy but that is a very difficult section of the river and I had some bum puckering moments entering there in adverse weather. Brought back many memories.

It does make me sad to think that the Edmund Fitzgerald is sitting on the bottom of the big lake looking up at all the other boats passing through, my condolences to all of the families who have lost a loved one on the great lakes. Why are some of those Great Lakes ships just pain ugly? There is no styling whatsoever on most of them. That is criminal for a ship designer.

    • @daddyrabbit835
      @daddyrabbit835  6 лет назад +1

      It seems like most boat watchers favor the older style, pilot house forward look. The "newer" 1000 footers all have the pilot house on the aft end and are built for function based on the needs of the industry. Growing up around these big boats, it kind of grows on you. We are able to track what boat is coming through and most of the time it's like seeing an old friend. I prefer the older style, but really appreciate the scale of the 1000 footers. My favorite boat is the Stewart J. Cort which combines both. The ugliest boat by far on the Great Lakes (and I say this with affection) has to be the John D. Leitch.
