Etho, it looks like you're using an old version of MCEdit. On the newest MCEdit Unified version when you export a structure you have the choice between saving it as a .schematic or .nbt file. The NBT type is of course the one you want.
If this method does work also worth pointing out would it not be simpler to have a single structure block copy the entire arena? further more though he found a sol'n that works so doesnt really matter, the issue with the setblocks failing could be resolved by first setting it to something other than air that doesnt occur naturally at that level like bedrock or netherrack
Also, sorry to hijack, if this does get seen, if Ethos plan is to distribute the commands so this can be played on any world, how is he going to distribute the structures as they are contained in the world save. I suggest putting them into a big load of setblock command and out that in a new 1.12 function. Just a suggestion to convert from structure blocks as they would be harder to 'install' as such
The idea was you'd add the structures to the world file, then do the commands. It could be done using purely commands, but it would be much more work, and it would be more vulnerable to changes.
Insert Original Name Here The structure blocks that fall could be replaced with a command block with a function in it. The function it would call would be a load of setblock commands for the actual base thingies. The actual command blocks that do everything could also be made into a function with a load of setblocks so everything could be installed but dragging one folder into the world save and the only one command is needed to out everything into the world. E.G. "/function battlebane:start"
Etho, for the setblock command at 9:31, the command fails if you try to place a block when the same exact blocktype is already there (eg. trying to set a stone block to stone). Try using a block that will never naturally spawn (eg. barrier block) and it should work.
Yep yep. The only time this would ever potentially fail is if they are using a pre-made world and that unnatural block happens to be there. Extremely low probability, but maybe he could do a block check similar to the team selection command that leads to a conditional replacement command? (If x.y.z = stone -> setblock granite, else setblock stone)
Wouldn't it help to just delete all blocks of a certain type in that coordinate and then replace it? He could even input a new kind of block since the new update allows you to change the vanilla on the fly without it interfering with the game itself.
"Etho, where's Battle Bane?" "I've already made an episode this year, be patient." "Etho, maybe you should wait a bit about working on Battle Bane." "Nah, I got this!"
What you need to do is make the stairs on bases the go a lot further down. That way if they spawn on a hill or logs the base will extend to the ground.
But if a base spawns in a plain area, the stairs will dig into the ground and you get four trenches, don't you? To avoid that, conditional parts should be introduced in the spawning sequence, which would increase its complexity.
Hey Etho, maybe instead of instantly killing people who fall out of the bottom of the arena, instead let teleport them below the barrier floor, so they fall all the way to the ground and die there? This means people can try and save their equipment by jumping off the arena, killing them but dropping their stuff below the arena on the actual map; To perhaps be saved by another teammate, or stolen by someone from another team purposefully waiting below the arena to steal the items of people who try this exactly. This also creates another area of interest on the map, with people maybe fighting to secure the items of people falling off the arena
I'm not a fan of the small barrier box encasing the island. What if someone ender pearls (probably rare in general gameplay, but you never know) and they get hit off before the ender pearl hits a block? Then they fall, hit the bottom barrier blocks and get killed, then the ender pearl hits and they teleport back in? Or maybe they're already dead so it doesn't matter. I feel this creates many problems, and also prevents players from getting that "hail mary" ender pearl when they fall off the map. I think I'd be more interested in seeing a different option, possibly just creating a barrier block rectangle all the way down to the ground, so they still fall off the arena, but their items aren't collectable. Their would need to be a floor in case the arena is floating above water. Of course, this then means the area under the arena isn't accessible, but really, who cares about that? Hmm this needs refining...
He has said before that whatever you bring into the arena gets deleted when you leave it. So that would defeat the purpose. The whole idea is to have a risk/reward factor into going to the arena. Also, the barrier is required for this @PoisonStone
You should include a very basic "starter chest" in every base. Spawning in a desert or Ocean would be a huge disadvantage without a way to plant trees nearby. Including like 4 blocks of dirt, 4 saplings, a wooden pick and perhaps a few torches would give any team a reasonable shot no matter the biome they spawn in.
Hey Etho, the problem with summoning a faling block with a high velocity downwards could be how physics in computer games work. Basically if an entity should move 20 blocks/second and the game has 20 ticks (=calculation cycles) /second, the block will move 1 block per tick and then (in the case of the concrete powder) check wether there is water. If the velocity is set too high (lets say 60 blocks/second) it will move too fast (in this case 3 blocks/tick) and therefore "warp" through 2 blocks and it will never realize that it hit them. Thats also why the blocks were under water. Just FYI :)
You should include a system to shut off team changes once the game starts because if you didn’t then when people were playing the game they could accidentally step on a clay to change teams. This could be used to sabotage by being able to see the locations of other teams
I always love these episodes, because even when they're technical, they're easy to follow and give you ideas for gamedesign and problem solving. Glad to see more than one in a year! XD
Hey Etho, I can't add anything technical because I'm not smart like that, but I"m looking forward to you continuing this series! This game looks very interesting and I can't wait to give the finished product a try! Keep up the good work!!
Etho, to start the game you could put a lever where the teams assemble, and when every team has his lever on on, the game starts. I think is a very simplistic solution to it Also, don't apologize so much about technical videos, that's what your channel was build from, we love it, and you are getting better every day at being coheren at explaining your logic
The stained clay system of joining a team is exploitable, but not in an obvious way: -Clay is probable to spawn within the game zone, along with materials for dyes and stuff to fire it. If you are on red team, you are most benefitted by crafting red clay, which you can then use as landmines that convert an enemy team member if they walk over it, not affecting yourself or your teammates. cyan clay would force them into spectator mode, but is works against yourself as well. You could however use cyan to become a spectator, spy on the enemy base, then return to your original team, or even use this system as a means of transport, converting back and forth so you can fly places. This is obviously super cool, and a big pay-off to having knowledge of the game system, so personally I'd be in favor of it, but I can see that it might be exploitable in a lot of unpredictable and unfun ways as well. -This whole thing can be disabled by either removing every single clay block in the game, or simply by disabling the team joining command blocks during the course of the game, which I realize that you probably intend on doing anyway. Still, since I typed this out already, and simply to bring your attention to it, I'll post this anyway. -Also, it's interesting to note that with a few simple changes, someone can adjust their own private game to allow clay abuse like this, by simply deleting whatever inhibiting commands you use, and could probably be hooked up to a lever to decide whether or not you want to play with these rules. -As a tangent, you could turn on and off other, more practical rules using levers in the lobby, like potentially friendly fire, etc.
This isn't boring at all. In the contrary, I find it very interesting to see how a map is made and how to use command block in a real project (playing around with the command ourself is one thing, but actually see a proper use of them is cool).
Thanks for the great episode again Etho! I'm not sure how vocal this part of your fanbase is, but your technical episodes/videos are always my favorite. :)
There should (and probably will) be a parser that changes the old command block code to the new syntax. In theory the devs should already include it, but if not I'm sure somebody in the community will write an updater, so that you don't need to go in game through all commands and change them.
"another one very soon" - yay, there will probably be another episode in less than three months! I always enjoy this series though. Can't wait to see the map in action as well
Hey there Ergo, making every command block conditional is really not necessary. Instead make the repeating one in front of the chain require redstone and control it that way. Also check out the /function command!
With the setblock command, instead of replace you can use the subcommand “destroy” to make sure it always places a block, you can get rid of that ugly cluster of blocks above the commands and also the /setblock air command will not be needed. Hope that helps!! ❤️❤️
A couple things. First one is a bit more useful. If you use the setblock option "destroy", placing a block will always succeed since it destroys the block before placing (works with air blocks too). So that could simplify your setup. Second one is just an fyi and not directly useful. Fill has an option (hollow) that allows you to make a one thick box of a block. It has the same block limit as fill so it wouldn't work for the walls of the arena, but it's just something to know. By the way, you might want to look into team sidebar stuff. It allows you to display something different on the sidebar depending on which team a player is on so the sidebar doesn't get too crowded. Could work to display points the team has, time till arena battle (could also use /title and the hotbar option), and other stuff since player names on the sidebar won't make a ton of sense in game (I believe?). Another thing to consider after you finish the game and have it working could be to setup it up on a public server so people can get people to play with. Not sure if that's feasible, but it could be something to keep in the back of your mind (could turn into some passive income from the server too) Loving the more frequent Battle Bane episodes. Can't wait to play it!
Conditional works with all command block types, not just chain. What you can do to is use a conditional repeating command block and keep all chain command blocks unconditional. For example, have a repeating command block testing for timer score of 100 facing into a conditional repeating command block. When and only when the timer score is 100 the repeating command block will activate itself and all chain command blocks connected to it.
Ergo, you should remove the trunks (wood logs) under the falling structure entity as well, just to be safe, because with dark oak and acacia (and big oaks, etc.) the probability of the structure block falling on the trunk itself once the leaves are cleared out is pretty high, and so you aren't removing weird structure placements... Also, the big bulky block of command blocks you added above your main command chains could be made into four separate, unconditional chains, to make it more compact and cleaner, so that you would have four parallel unconditional command block lines (chains) running above the existing ones, preventing interference with unconditional commands mixing, etc.
I just can't wait for when you beta test Battle Bane because I know you're going to round up all your friends from Hermitcraft AND some old friends from Mindcrack and play a bunch of rounds of this. And that will be spectacularly fun to watch.
Hey Etho, wonderful video, as always. I'm looking forward to seeing more of this series (in addition to the others). One thing I would like to mention, functions are a big part of the recent updates in minecraft, and since you're already requiring people to add structures to a folder, its not too hard to use function packs as well. This eliminates the need for all of the command blocks in game, and it runs much smoother, with more flexibility for reorganization, and without the need to set blocks to start other chains. If you are interested in doing this instead of command blocks, feel free to reach out to me, and I would be happy to help (I'm 100% positive that you could figure it out on your own though). Even if you do decide to stick with command blocks, I have been keeping up with all of the new commands and I would be happy to help create the commands for the map. Also, if you're interested, I am also very skilled with making "manuals" in-game, with options too, or instead of that, for the admin areas, creating clickable signs that let you see setting changes as they happen. Thanks to anybody that reads this comment, I hope everybody has a great day (or night)
Why not just use setblock gold or something that can't occur naturally? If I understood right, it only fails if the block it's trying to place is already there, so using gold block or endstone or whatever should work.
Clash with Stenky This is incorrect. /setblock works to replace any block. The only reason it fails is if it tries to replace a block with itself. Thus, Etho could use concrete or something.
Etho, a couple suggestions. It seems as if this type of game may end up lasting a half hour or longer, or if with really good teams, potentially even to UHC levels. After a certain time period, maybe you could have nametags turned back on to help people find each other for combat easier? Another idea- There was a mod called Mystcraft that created new dimensions similar to RFTools. After a while of being in a Mystcraft world, it'd start getting consumed and destroyed by like... instability blocks. I don't know if it's possible with command blocks alone, but maybe after a certain time period elapses, start having the world collapse and get destroyed to the void so people get forced to move to the center? Maybe also have random pockets of void form too, another peril that players need to face.
I very much liked the episode :) Any way I think you can make only the stone block placement unconditional, than if the chain starts, it will try and place the air block, what ever happens it will place the stone block after wards, and than the chain will keep running, and if the chain is not really running it will try and place the stone block, but will fail because there is allready a stone block there from the first time. This might cause problems any way if the strucher is distroying the stone block or if you keep this loop running forever and some one breaks the stone block by hand.
Hee etho, I love your vanilla series but I’m not so fan of your hermit quest series. Since you’ve only been uploading that I find this very refreshing and made me appreciate this series more

If you don't want to give player who generates world blindness, I recommend turning his facing up /tp @e ~ ~50 ~ 90 -90 It does work like normal teleport but last two numbers change person's view.
Someone needs to make a shirt that says "OK! So we're in a brand new world here" I'm sure we'll be hearing it alot more if this series keeps its momentum
Etho, to avoid the problem at 15:37 with the command block setting a redstone block where it's not supposed to from happening, you can make it replace air. That way you won't lose any important command blocks by mistake
I just started watching again for the first time since 2013 (14, 15, 16?) and it looks like you've come a long way. I still remember you setting up the original team joining system. Great video! (Colour is spelled with a U)
Hey Etho, I think you'll find it much easier to do certain commands by using the tab auto-complete. Obviously some commands have too many parameters so it is slower, but you can even type out half the command and then tab through the possible matches!
Hey Etho, just wanted to let you know that it is possible to save structures that are larger than the 32x32x32 limit in game. You have to create a small contraption and include it in part of the build that, when loaded, will load the next part of the build and then clear itself. You could use a couple of these to load in the entire arena from only one structure block.
He needs to get all the old Minecrafters when he finishes and just play a massive game. Mindcrackers, old and current, and Hermitcrafters. Maybe other friends too.
Etho, it looks like you're using an old version of MCEdit. On the newest MCEdit Unified version when you export a structure you have the choice between saving it as a .schematic or .nbt file. The NBT type is of course the one you want.
UPVOTE SO ETHO CAN SEE IT

Didn't Etho already do like 5 in 1 year before the 3 year hiatus?

"I've already made an episode this year, be patient."
"Etho, maybe you should wait a bit about working on Battle Bane."
"Nah, I got this!"
Razgriz to be fair I’m glad he didn’t listen to those saying don’t carry on. I’ve been waiting to play this map for 6 years
Well that seemed like a short year!
Vertiqo 2017 did fly by anyway it’s already November, it’s gone by so fast
Hold up what is this, TWO EPISODES of Battle Bane in ONE YEAR!?!?!
Hey Etho, don't forget about Battle Bane!
Wait they have vein miner anyone remember that?
Hey, there's something I gotta tell you...
Did you know they have veinminer?
How did you get the veinmine to walk around in battlebane like that
Lex Bosch dude I was JUST thinking that!
I have this brand new concept guys!
Its called vain miner
Welcome back to another episode oooofffffffff..........
Map making With ETHO
I thought it was oof lol so glad it's not
Cooking with Etho!
I though you were gonna say labyrinth of puzzles
What you need to do is make the stairs on bases the go a lot further down. That way if they spawn on a hill or logs the base will extend to the ground.
But if a base spawns in a plain area, the stairs will dig into the ground and you get four trenches, don't you?
To avoid that, conditional parts should be introduced in the spawning sequence, which would increase its complexity.
Not if you cover a certain point with structure voide blocks. Then it will just spawn underground harmlessly with no trenches.
Dread, the Mad Smith @.
that's not a good solution, because if the base spawns on the top of the trunk of a jungle tree, the base is gonna be way too huge.
If it spawns on a jungle tree this way it will be floating in the air.
ThinkRedstone what if theres water below the arena? Then they dont die
It could be done by telepoting item entity down instead of players
If I remember correctly the point of the arena was nobody gets any gear back after the fight, even the winners.
Cullen Cowap probably a few boats too for ocean spawns... But what if the whole arena is in an ocean? I've seen some big oceans in minceraft...
Sprocket Creations how would you get in before drowning? I guess you could craft a door to make an airspace... But how many players know that
You can export MCEdit schematics to the structure block format if you use MCEdit 2.0
Hey Etho, the problem with summoning a faling block with a high velocity downwards could be how physics in computer games work. You should have the people in Hermitcraft play this, kinda like HermitQuest
Really? I was thinking that he would just take people off the street and make them play it.
AwesomeMe and AwesomeYou Would be cool too
Etho pre recorded this in 2008
Don't worry about this series not being interesting! The command block stuff is exactly what we wanna see!
Wait ethoslab, your doing it all wrong. It hasn't been at least 6 months since your last video on it
"It's more of a technical thing and I'm not very good at it" -Ethoslab, Minecraft done technical
New year came early this year! Etho uploaded 2 battle banes in a single year!
Give the player who is generating the terrain blindness.
I recommend turning his view up instead (/tp @e ~ ~50 ~ 90 -90)
For the set block on the stone, maybe try 'destroy' instead of 'replace'
And maybe toggle doTileDrops gamerule, if dropped items after destroying blocks are problem.
WHAT MORE THAN ONE BATTLE BANE IN A YEAR!
You should include a system to shut off team changes once the game starts because if you didn’t then when people were playing the game they could accidentally step on a clay to change teams. This could be used to sabotage by being able to see the locations of other teams
You'll probably have to fill wood types and vines as you did with the leaves to prevent uncommon edge cases.
Etho, you need to put a John Candy statue in the middle of the map!
Draken Knight i need this in my life
ikr
Everything Etho does is a meme now...
well to be fair the death of John Candy was funny AF
It's the least etho can do jk
This means there’ll be no Battle Bane in 2018. This will sadly turn into a tri-annual series.
I always love these episodes, because even when they're technical, they're easy to follow and give you ideas for gamedesign and problem solving. Glad to see more than one in a year! XD
Etho is living in 2007,
Etho is a time traveller confirmed!
Two battlebane episodes. In the same year! What true beauty is this!
I was *going* to say that 2008 was 9 years ago
That's probably when he started this series :p
Minecraft didn't exist back then 😅
its because he accidentally said 2008 instead of 2018
0:17 check it urself
wildlaser 106 it did
5:35 Actually you would only need 2 more command blocks, since most of the logs are minecraft:log but acacia and dark oak are minecraft:log2
Hey Etho, I can't add anything technical because I'm not smart like that, but I"m looking forward to you continuing this series! This game looks very interesting and I can't wait to give the finished product a try! Keep up the good work!!

Yeaaaahhh! Keep this series alive, Etho. I really enjoy your Battle Bane episodes, and I don't think they are boring at all.
WHAT THE HELL IS THIS THE REAL WORLD OR A DREAM PLEASE DON'T WAKE ME UP!
25:40
He said in another one VERY SOON! HYPE!
Apparently, you don't know Etho.
yea 2018 isn't far of!
Etho! Work on Battle Bane aga... Oh wait. Keep working on it anyway!

honestly this series having 2 episodes in a year is the only reason I came back to watching this channel again (I stopped 2 years ago)

Etho, thanks for existing. It really makes me happy that you do.
Can’t wait to see this up and running. Thanks for the update.
The moment this comes out, the Minecraft community will explode all over this
I don't watch this series but I just wanted to say I love your videos. You always bring a smile to my face.
Just came here to take a break from binge-watching your CTM videos. Keep up the good work!
Oh my god! This year went by so fast...
Zahlenteufel1 You can't setblock "on" another block unless it is air...and if it is air than you can't setblock air so the chain wouldn't work
What do you mean by setblock on another block?
Clash with Stenky
This is incorrect. /setblock works to replace any block. The only reason it fails is if it tries to replace a block with itself. Thus, Etho could use concrete or something.
Thank you so much Etho! You kept your promise + a couple of weeks!
I love Battlebane and I’m glad you started it up again, please try to do it more often, I love it so much
Etho, a couple suggestions.
I kinda liked the old team entering system where you stepped on the pressure plate and entered the box. I dunno, something so satisfying about it
I very much liked the episode :)
Any way I think you can make only the stone block placement unconditional, than if the chain starts, it will try and place the air block, what ever happens it will place the stone block after wards, and than the chain will keep running, and if the chain is not really running it will try and place the stone block, but will fail because there is allready a stone block there from the first time.
This might cause problems any way if the strucher is distroying the stone block or if you keep this loop running forever and some one breaks the stone block by hand.
Enjoying this, would like this to be monthly or even more frequent.
Back With Battle Bane yeah! Been waiting for this ever since the last episode!
Etho you should probably hold off on working on battle bane.
Shhhh don't let him know we're trying reverse psychology.
Watching these videos makes me really happy!
Great video Etho! I've been watching you since 2013 and you will always be my favorite minecraft RUclipsr ;)
Hee etho, I love your vanilla series but I’m not so fan of your hermit quest series. Since you’ve only been uploading that I find this very refreshing and made me appreciate this series more
If you don't want to give player who generates world blindness, I recommend turning his facing up /tp @e ~ ~50 ~ 90 -90
It does work like normal teleport but last two numbers change person's view.
Someone needs to make a shirt that says "OK! So we're in a brand new world here" I'm sure we'll be hearing it alot more if this series keeps its momentum
Really enjoying the map, can't wait till it's finished!
i love this series! cant wait to see you play the finished product!
Etho, to avoid the problem at 15:37 with the command block setting a redstone block where it's not supposed to from happening, you can make it replace air. That way you won't lose any important command blocks by mistake
I would love to play this!!
I have been here before you started the project!
Love it man
I just started watching again for the first time since 2013 (14, 15, 16?) and it looks like you've come a long way. I still remember you setting up the original team joining system. Great video! (Colour is spelled with a U)
It was a nice episode Etho, it's interesting to see you play with the techinical side of the game.
Hey Etho, I think you'll find it much easier to do certain commands by using the tab auto-complete. Obviously some commands have too many parameters so it is slower, but you can even type out half the command and then tab through the possible matches!
Please do more of this series! It is awesome!!
Etho! When you're done, play this game with the Hermits!
That Battle Bane fix is real. My dealer's got the supply real good recently.
Holy crap! The bass in your outro (and intro) gets me every time! O.o
thank you ethos! always brightening up my days!!
Yay finnaly, you should make another episode soon i really like them!
Etho, When you're dropping the structure blocks, the logs work just like the leaves -- there's log and log2, so it only adds two more commands.
Great episode! Very informative, wasn't bored for a minute Etho Slab, don't you worry.
Not even 2008 yet?
*Why are we still here?*
*Just to suffer?*
*Every night I loose track of time*
Excellent content. :) Love having some technical stuff to go with the other stuff!
He needs to get all the old Minecrafters when he finishes and just play a massive game.
Mindcrackers, old and current, and Hermitcrafters. Maybe other friends too.
Its nice to see Etho doing different videos, especially if he prefers those games
I still love how he edits. Instead of floating some text he uses an ingame sign xD
it's 2008 minecraft!
Dont burn yourself out on BattleBane Ergo. You have been working hard on it.
A wild unicorn in its natural habitat
Love this series! Hope to see you do more soon.
