    • @viddeliten
      @viddeliten 3 года назад +66

YES! It is SO blatantly obvious noone over at EA Corp has even set foot in the game. You download a patch with a new feature, try it and EXCEPTIONS everywhere (seen with MCCC) and the features doesn't even do what they are supposed to. They go "We have fixed skintones" and then all of us has to report all the bugs like only white babies, only warm skintone babies and THE BLOTCHINESS that never goes away!!! Plus all the simulation lag that renders the game virtually unplayable and won't even start for some.
If they have play testers, they do a good job of ignoring their reports.

    • @NadieQueti
      @NadieQueti 3 года назад +45

They also don't optimize. TS3 is very laggy, mostly because of how it is coded, and the more expansions, the more lag. They took out many features for TS4 to be less laggy, and yet, with more expansion, it is becoming laggy and buggy. They could have had an open world, story progression, and a color wheel if they actually worked on their code. This is proved by all the awesome models who so far made open worlds and story progression mods. As you said, as long as they have money in their pockets they couldn't care less about the state of the game

My issue with the Sims 4 is it’s lack to expand on the franchise in any way. Outside of just better coding because of newer technology, the Sims 4 hasn’t done anything innovative or tried to expand upon the already existing features from the Sims 3. If anything, they went backwards.

In Sims 4, I spend about 80-90% of my time in CAS (which is pretty good) and then attempt to play the game with the sims I created, but they are always incredibly boring and have the same personality as every other sim.
I guess the Sims 4 would be an okay game if it was marketed as a house building and character designing game instead of a life simulator.

When I was playing the university pack, I saw that a game was going on at the stadium. My Sims had low fun so I thought it would be a good way to entertain them. Paid 90 Simoleons for 2 tickets. Little did I know, attending a sports game grants 0 fun regen to Sims. So you're just paying to have your Sims' need decay for a few hours.

The biggest issue with Sims 4 is the design philosophy behind it, and mark my words, Sims 5 WILL inherit that philosophy, and likely an even more destructive iteration of it. Anyone clamoring for Sims 5 at this point expecting it to be better seriously needs to work on their pattern recognition. EA doesn't care, because they can afford not to care. In fact, this is just a conspiracy theory of mine, but I think Sims 4 was an experiment to see just how much they could get away with. And what they have gotten away with so far includes but is not limited to:
    - Excluding colour wheels, very likely so that stuff packs will become more appealing (There is even an insulting number of items that are just different palettes of the same items, spread out across different DLC)
    - Getting rid of open worlds while still offering a tiny amount of lots despite no longer having the excuse that they must all be loaded at once.
    - Dev-built houses that are downright infantile, to the point that they went so far as to hire private individuals to do their job for them.
    - Broken AI that is still Alpha-quality six years later, with sims acting like ADHD-riddled children with short-term memory loss and no sense of priority management.
    - Not including basic features like pools, dishwashers, or even TODDLERS at launch, and getting people to THANK them for adding those in for free months or years later.
    - Using CLEARLY rigged polls (Seriously, they managed to funnel "eco stuff" down to "laundry stuff", and the Star Wars thing was at the bottom of players' priorities) to get people to think that THEY asked for whatever useless pack they put out, ensuring that they blame each other and shift focus away from the actual culprits.
    - Actually, unironically making DLC for DLC.
And with the game continuing to be successful and with the playerbase continuing to be loyal, I'd say they've gotten away with it. This sets a very worrying precedent for Sims 5. Nobody should be excited for it, nobody should buy it at launch let alone preorder it. Everyone should be very, very skeptical. But they won't be. EA knows that. Which is why I am completely confident that it's all downhill from here.

that said if Paralivs comes out we might see EA take a big look at sims 5. because if Paralivs success and they dont need to EA level of success but just not fail then EA will have to face the fact that The sims is no longer alone and have a monopole on the Live sim genera.
and if that happen then Sims 5 might actually turn around.
remember when Xbox and Sony anonsed that PS4 and Xbox 360 would have no indie devs deal or some really stupid restrictions and how when Ouya started to get tossed around (yee it failed at the end) but how Sony and microsoft both backed down on there stand on the indie devs.

They do not integrate packs well. We've had cats and dogs for quite a while, but rarely do they integrate for cats and dogs in the new packs. Example, we got the ability to have roommates, but when you put an extra bed in for a roommate while having a cat or dog, it says not enough beds, because the pet is considered a sim so you have to have an EXTRA extra bed if you have a pet in order to have a roommate. We've had simbots for a while now, biggest flaw? Cannot get waterproof, no reward for it, no update for it, cannot happen big flaw. They added toddlers late, but we have had them for quite a while, however they rarely include toddlers in new packs. To be fair on that one, they rarely include children and just throw teens in with young adults. They updated decor to be functional for books but only some of them and they didn't continue the trend. Outdoor living has no real point unless you want to do herbalism, and even then now that they made those plants seasonal, unless you go four times a year to get those plants, its kinda pointless. You can camp anywhere, my sims do, if your tent will fit, you can camp there, so what is the point of a world for camping? And so many many many things feel half-assed. Sooooo much clutter you can't put on a shelf, it looks like you can, it looks small enough, but unless you use move objects cheat, it has to go on a table or cabinet. Whats the point of all these things you can't put anywhere???? MySim trophies, it was a big thing in basegame, but the one update we could DO something with them, ironically the Realm of Magic pack, it only did it with ONE of them and we go nothing else. We got all this STUFF, most of which looks like would go well together, but you can't because the colors clash and some things go with NOTHING. We finally get a cabinet with shelving that can put some of the clutter, but it will only take a very limited amount of that clutter. The whole point of the University pack is to GO to University, but it works better going from a lot in another neighborhood because otherwise its almost impossible to get to class on time, then you can't take the advantages of going to university like the free food because if you get there during the specific times to eat, the 'vendor' or 'server' isn't there so the food isn't ready by the time it is its no longer within the times to eat.
Ok, I kinda rambled there, but there is sooo much that just doesn't work RIGHT and never really did. Unless you are playing pack specific many things just don't work well together. I don't do that, does anyone do that? We only do that while a pack is new, after that we want to play with multiple packs together and it just doesn't work. The lifestyles are just annoying, I notice there was not a new lifestyle with the new paranormal pack so thats not being updated. So again, whats the point? Instead of taking things out of the box, they put everything in a box, and that box stays small despite updates or packs.
EDIT: I've said I've been playing sims3, a good example of the difference is the sculpting compared to the woodworking table. I've been freaked out by all the stuff my sim "scuplts" whereas the woodworking table has never been updated and everything comes in that ONE color of wood, except the barstools those are just the one as well. It's the limitations they give us compared to other sims games that drive us crazy.

And yes, the lack of new reward things is super noticeable. I still don't get why the weather machine is just a regular build buy objects instead of a reward object like 3 or an unlockable object with a certain career or skill. Why no "no shock" reward for University to help with the inventing skill? Or one or two for Snowy Escape etc? They didn't even add a "earn fame faster" reward for Get Famous

When I compare Sims 3 and Sims 4, I always have the feeling that they developed Sims 3 thinking in having fun and made every expansion with the previous content they had on mind. The expansions or stuff packs just added spice to a game that was already good and the expansions worked perfectly with the other content. I remember to create an adventurer (WA) that got pregnant by the aliens the first night (Seasons) and his alien daughter's lifetime wish was to adopt a unicorn! (Pets). And all of that made sense and was really fun to play!
In the other hand, Sims 4 has all those expansions and so little content! It makes me feel like they created the game focused on the looks of the sims or the stetics of the world, not on the gameplay itself. If they have a "playable" feature is limited to the expansion pack and it's really difficult to make it match with the rest of the content. I recently watched a video from Pleasant Sims where she said that let's plays were over and I think she's right! I've found more Sims 4 builds than gameplays, while with Sims 3 is the opposite, and I think it's because of this difference.
If Sims 5 wants to be a better game, they have to focus more on the gameplay and less in how it looks.

I haven't bought a new pack since the Knitting one, but before that I had them all. I keep reflecting on how much money has been spent specifically on TS4 and it's crazy. While playing the game, I have to rely muchly on my own imagination rather than actual gameplay to steer me along. It's truly sad that they haven't expounded upon the things that we already have going on. TS4 is super disappointing, I hate to say it. I was one of those who was optimistic that they could turn it all around. TBH, I'm just tired of playing a young adult simulator and would be much more willing to purchase the latest packs if it offered more than a few hours of curious run through. Shame really, it could be such a great game. The layout is there, they just need to get it together. I'd be curious how many Sim Gurus themselves are bored to death by their own work.

Things I want to see in The Sims, number 1 and 2 I want the most:
    1) Ownership of multiple properties: I want to be able to buy other houses, then rent them out to NPCs for passive income. There could even be a random expenses that come up, like water pipes breaking, fire damage, tenants not paying rent etc. to make gameplay more fun. The more properties your sim owns, the more frequent the problems can pop up.
    2) School: a person gets the option to hire a tutor, let the kids do online school, teach the kids at home, send kids to public school or send them to private school. They could even throw Boarding School into the mix where the kids disappear during the week, and show up at home on Friday afternoon for the weekend. Personally I want the homeschool option the most, but the whole kit would be great.
    3) Farming/Homesteading : specifically a Chicken Run, Pig Pen, Sheep and cows. You could have a "rabbit hole" shed (like a closet) for harvesting meat from various animals. The animals can have babies by using a similar shed. Cows give milk and meat, sheep give wool (hello Nifty Knitting) and meat, chickens give eggs and meat. Pigs could be fed spoiled food, and they give meat.
    4) play music as a band

Not only are the jobs themselves not fun, but it made me realize how leaving your sims go to work by themselves is such an IMPORTANT part of this game. When your sims go away to work or school, it's almost like a temporal escape from your sims, it lets you relax for a moment entirely, but get to work removes that and now you have to take care of your useless sims for 24 hours straight and go to a work that is not even fun in the first place. If they made a more entertaining hospital, MAYBE I would like it, but the pace of everything in that place is just SO slow. My fear is that if Paralives is great, EA is going to try to brutally crush them and steal all of their mechanics, using their power to get back on top.

These are such good points, and honestly I feel like bug fixes for DLC aren't even featured that much...Like, Laundry day has been bugged for me over 6 months now where the dryers in game wont work :/
(also genuinely, wheeeen will we get a baby update?)

We are being called complainers and get the “well if you don’t like it don’t buy it” excuse. I’m sick of it. And the Sims team writes and speaks about the patch notes and such like they’re talking to children (which I guess is what they’re hoping).

    1. It’s when my family attempts to have a grand breakfast to celebrate, they have to each stand up and hug before eating, that did it for me.
    2. It’s the fact that when i load my largest lots, items are missing inside and outside my home, that did it for me.
    3. It’s the fact that sims that don’t live in my “world” seem to always be in my neighborhood, that did it for me.
    4. It’s the slow game speed and load screens that did it for me.
    5. It’s the lack of response to requests for vehicles and transportation that did it for me...bikes and boats? FOH
    6. Again, LOAD SCREENS
    7. It’s the fact that i can’t take a sim to brunch at a restaurant without possibly starving from not receiving my food or exhausted because the whole ordeal sucked up half a day, that did it for me.
    8. It’s the fact that my kid sims have absolutely nothing to do off our home lot (after school program, sports team, after school suspension...hell, I’ll even love a hired tutor!
    9. It’s the fact that my maid seems to come on days she feels, repairmen arrive when they feel so i usually end up hiring 2, i can hire a nanny while on vacation for the weekend yet when i return she only charges $60 bucks, that did it for me.
    10. It’s the overall lack of effort that did it for me. Never again! What happened to the simple realism of the game. We have a jail but no burglars, can’t be arrested or fined, or go to the jail to pay tickets or bail out anyone. You can be a doctor but can’t prescribe medicine to other sims, can’t visit the hospital if your sim is sick. Your gardener is useless unless you built a farm. Realistic bills would be nice (service providers). If you can create a botched university, you can create a mall. Lastly, if you want to offer rewards and achievements for users that play a sim for generations, do this by allowing them to create savings accounts, have second homes, and wills!!!!!!

I jumped straight from the first Sims game, which I played from release on and off until 2015 when my computer that supported the disc crapped out. Then I got The Sims 4 in 2018. Having missed 2 & 3 and having no context for those comparisons...I think TS4 is an enjoyable game. I played base game only for a while to see what I thought before sinking anymore money into it, and I was pleased. I have almost all of the packs at this point, and I have to say I think your point about updating the DLC is a great one. It was frustrating to go back and look at guides and videos from simmers about pack releases and come across the same issues and complaints that they had in my gameplay. I also wish that they made the packs play nicely with each other. For example, I had a sim go to university and live in the dorms, but she was constantly freezing because there isn't a thermostat in the place. I get that they don't want to have something in a build that people might not have the pack for, but when I can't access build mode without completely exiting live mode and going back in build only.. that's ridiculous. Shouldn't there be something that detects other packs and makes adjustments on what's installed already? Also, one of the biggest missed opportunities I saw in a pack was the lack of a new athletic aspiration or a career based on the wellness trait. I also haven't played much with snowy escape yet, but am already frustrated that the new lifestyles don't have enough variety to reflect older packs. If the goal is to make more money by having people buy all the packs, it would be cool if they worked together better.

You mentioned SV, Minecraft and Terraria as examples of sandbox games that do good in free patch updates, but they're not even the only ones who know how to add good things. Take Cities Skylines for example, they have a bunch of DLC, but the base game is complete, and the DLCs themselves ADD to the game. Honestly, even The Sims 3 DLCs did that! It's shocking to me how a game that came out in 2009, in the middle of an economic recession didn't only have open world and a new trait system, but it also included giant ammounts of stuff on the DLCs. If you compare the features of EPs in TS3 and 4, one single TS3 EP could fit a TS4 EP, two GPs and a bunch of SPs. How did they let this happen to the sims 4? More importantly: how did *we* see this happen and kept buying the game?? The Sims needs competition ASAP.
By the way, amazing video. You, LGR and AmandaBB are pretty much the only simmers that tackle extremely important issues in the games that no one ever talks about for some reason.

This is so true. I’m a player who plays only for playing with the lives of sims. And I loved the sims 1,2 and 3. Sims 4 has been lacking for so long that I haven’t touched my game for close to a year now.. Can’t wait for paralives though. Because they seem to listen.

I'm glad you mentioned balancing features. I reinstalled The Sims 2 recently and the reason it's so much more fun than The Sims 4 isn't because of certain features, it's because the gameplay is balanced so much better. I can spend hours just keeping my sims needs up and that alone is FUN in The Sims 2, because it's balanced well. Every micro-management sim needs this to be top priority.

It does say "Sim Guides" instead "Sims Guides". It'd be easy enough to rebrand out to the broader simulation genre.

Great video Carl. You've made many great points. I feel if the Gurus don't address these issues now they many lose a lot of potential sales when TS5 comes out. I'm sure that folks will look at the problems that TS4 has in smooth gameplay and assume that E.A. doesn't care about game quality only quantity. I also hope that before the E.A. firmly decides what TS5 should be before investing a lot of time writing code only to realize the game should have been something else and then try to change it. I agree that games and pack could be improved after release, but I feel that's an issue with the upper management at E.A. who worry about the bottom line. E.A. really needs to improve their reputation stat or lose out to the competition.

But seriously, I just started playing both batuu , snowy escape and nifty knitting, all 3 are riddled with bugs, batuu is mostly just blackhole quests you need stats for, snowy escape does add a lot of content but most if not all of them have issues. I've read so many bug reports where the devs act like they can't recreate is but I encounter all of the bugs. It's almost as if they just don't care.

They really need to add more ways to experience your sims lives... like how about instead of just constantly pointing and clicking feeling disconnected from the world, why not just add a way to play as your sim directly? Ex: The Sims 2 on console and handheld would let you have direct control over your sim.
