I am so happy to see that you had many stand out books from last month! I don’t think Agatha Christie is an author for me, but I love how much you love her 😂 I have really enjoyed the newer adaptations of her books, such as death on the Nile and murder on the Orient express. I love the snowy vibes so much! Did you see the most recent adaptation of a haunting in Venice??? Looking forward to your most disliked books of November 🤣👻

    • @mikalareads

Im sorry for the late reply Lauren!!! I appreciate you so much for watching!!!
YEsss I can TOTALLY understand not vibing with Agatha Christie! I feel like I have had a mixed bag with her books but something keeps pulling me back in! (Is it bad that I find them boring but in a relaxing way? Like the perfect book to help me fall asleep, or like a good palette cleanser after a more darker read! LOL)
OMG I still havent seen the new adaptation of Haunting in Venice! I started the book in October, got super busy and never finished it, I have so many things in January I want to catch up on and I definitely cant wait to see the movie and see how good it is or not!

I really want to read more Agatha Christie. I watched the A Death on the Nile movie and enjoyed it and would love to get around to reading it.
Thanks for the warning on The Troop. I really struggle with reading about animal cruelty (as if there's not enough of it in real life 🥲).
Sounds like you had such a great reading month, Mikala ❤️

AWW Thank you so much!!! I am loving the chilly weather because it is officially sweater season!! 💗🙌
YESSSS oh my gosh I would love to get your insights on Death on the Nile or other Agatha Christie books if you do get to read more of her books!
Yes yes yes Aisling I feel that SO much about struggling to read cruelty towards animals, thats exactly how I feel when I read certain subjects like theres enough of this in real life I dont want to read this in my fiction too! I would certainly skip the Troop for that reason, or if you do pick up the book still you can definitely skip those sections and you will not miss anything essential to understanding the plot (I skipped these section of the text because even for me it was too harmful to read that and I could get the gist without needing the details!).
I hope you are having a wonderful December and holiday season!!!💗💗💗

This seems like such a great reading month for you!
I know you had a bad experience with another Nick Cutter book earlier this year, so I’m glad this went well. I liked The Deep even better than The Troop, but I think that’s an unpopular opinion. I agree his writing is really evocative.
I wanted to give The Weight of Blood a try for Brooklin’s book club, but I am just not in the right place for it atm. I’m really hoping I can get to it next year.
As usual when I watch your videos, I’ve basically ended up adding all of these to my TBR now!

YES it really was I was so happy with my reading overall in November!!!
Yessss The Handyman Method - whew that one was a dooozie! But I really want to check out The Deep too even though like you said I think Ive heard some negative opinions on it it sounds like right up my alley!!!
YEssss Aww Ally I FULLY understand not being in the right headspace for The Weight of Blood at the moment and I think it is so smart to protect your mental health and obviously prioritize that! That is one thing for myself I have made a large commitment too this year is protecting my mental health when it comes to reading and certain subject matter that I may need to space out in between reading or take breaks because it can be very difficult and affecting! I hope if you do get to read The Weight of Blood in the new year you will enjoy it too, I really think it is one of the best YA books ive read in YEARS!!!!
AWWW I am so sorry for over contributing to your tbr but also thank you so much for the super kind words and support! You are so kind and I truly appreciate you!

It sounds like Death on the Nile is exactly what you needed to keep going with the series! 👏👏
The Adirondack Witch sounds so wild. It sounds like it would be a good movie fr. OMG the audiobook is only 5 hours?!
yaaaas you finally go to Murder on the Orient Express 🙏. I could see it not living up to the hype. It was the first Agatha Christie novel I have ever read so it hit for me. The twist was also a slay in my mind 🤣
Everything you said about The Weight of Blood 👏So may different things are covered in that book.
10:42 same! I feel like I relate to them bc I am nosy and would also try and investigate a crime in my area 🤣

YES Death on The Nile just totally refreshed me and got me so excited to keep reading the Poirot series!
YES The Adirondack Witch was such a quick and wild read! This was actually one of the ones I read for the Witchathon and it was a witch book that was genuinely scary to me! Definite Blair Witch vibes 😬😬😬
OHHH I TOTALLY see what your mean that with Murder on the Orient Express being your first AC it just hit different! Also 100% the ending is so special and different from all her other books which is so cool to see something so unique!
Also so glad to you had The Weight of Blood for your book club! I am so happy to have finally read it!!!

Death on the Nile is absolutely one I will pick up. I love that it put you back on track with Christie!
Yay, you loved The Troop!!!!!! Yess the writing is seriously so wild. I absolutely will be returning to it after i gave birth. It's too weird to read when being pregnant, lol.
Mother Daughter Murder Night sounds truly miraculous. I need to add this one too. Love anything with multiple generations of women.

AWWWW thank you so much Emily, truly your comment made my day!!!!!! I just got this lipstick too and Im just LOVING the dark brown color!
YES Death on the Nile totally convinced me to keep on my Agatha Christie reading journey! 💯💖
oh my gosh I really was so impressed with The Troop!!! I need to find myself a copy at a library book sale one of these times because I really want to reread it and annotate!!!
YESSS also Ive heard people describe Mother Daughter Murder Night as Gilmore Girls but with murder and I LOVE that description! Its cozy but has a really interesting mystery element! And my favorite aspect was the familial bonds between the three generations of women!
ALSO Vera Wong was SUCH a fun time, Vera herself was so adorable and just a HOOT!!!!!!! I need more books featuring that crone archetype because I LOVE how those women characters are always like No-nonsense and confident in themselves! It makes me SO happy reading!!!

AGREE COMPLETELY!!! The troop was so well written i was shocked by just how descriptive it was! I could tell how much time and effort went into writing that book and thinking up those descriptions!!!

I’m so impressed that you’re keeping up with your Agatha Christie project! And it’s so great seeing you so happy about these books! Did you end up liking Shady Hollow? Your thoughts on Vera Wong and Mother Daughter Murder Night make me think you might end up getting into cozy mysteries.
How gross/squeamish is The Troop? Your description makes me think I’d love the writing but it’s really hard for me to overcome body horror.
Are you in Brooklin’s friend discord for lols and memes????? I hope I’ll see you there if that’s your jam! 💜👻💜🌺💀💀🌺👻💜

    • @mikalareads

YES I think I am going to try to complete the Hercule Poirot series in 2024 and then start the Miss Marple series next! They are just such quick reads I feel like I could finish the Poirot novels next year if I set my mind to it!
I still need to finish Shady Hollow but I definitely plan on it because I think I will really enjoy it once I set aside the time to really pay attention!
Ohhhh YES so The Troop I would say is very gross with the body horror, I think if body horror is something that you know may bother you I think I would say to pass on this one just because it is so deeply grotesque with some of the imagery! (I do also think if you were curious about giving it a try though maybe through your library, I think there are portions that can be skimmed through that are the most gross {because really its just a lot of intense details that you done techincally need but add to that squeamishness} and not miss out on the actual story as a whole!)
HUH I dont know why I havent seen Brooklins Discord omg I am going to find it now!!!! That sounds so fun!!!!

Omggggg I would LOVE to hear your thoughts on the Adirondack Witch...it really impressed me!
Okay RIGHT.!!!! like murder on the orient express just really bored me and disnt have any spark to it. It just felt like a listical of poirot interviewing everyone and their mom and their dog lol

@@mikalareads The adirondack witch audiobook is on Everand so I am definitely going to pick it up soon!
