- This video was shot over 8 days on Safari in Tanzania with my dad and sister. The majority of the footage is from the Serengeti with some clips from Lake Manyara, Tarangire and Ngorongoro Crater. This was my first time traveling to Africa and I was absolutely blown away by the wildlife. Check out my Instagram for some photos / jturner0 .

Gear used: DJI Osmo Pocket, Panasonic GH5 with Panasonic Leica 100-400mm and a few with Panasonic 14-140mm
I used a bean bag to rest my camera on to keep stable with the telephoto lens. The bean bag was key because it gave me the flexibility to move around quickly to capture animals and to create some movement in the shots. We purchase empty beanbags and filled them with rice from a local market in Arusha. The GH5 has incredible stabilization and allowed me to get stable shots just using a bean bag even at 400mm (800mm full-frame equivalent)

These are amazing shots of wildlife, is this common for all tours or did you sign up for a photographic specific tour. I want to get out there so bad, sooner rather than later.

I am going to Tanzani in november and will visit some of the places you did. Now this is my second trip to africa, but my first to Tanzania. How close did you get to the animals? Was your 400 lens Fine, or did you had moments you wished for a longer lens?
How about the low light performance of GH5? Was it enough or did you had moments wishing for a cam which has stronger low light performance?

Tere Wild I use back button autofocus
@@joshuaturner your autofocus never hunted! mine always does :(
Tere Wild So I use the 1-area focus setting and make the box as small as possible. I also use AF single so I’m in charge of telling the camera when to focus using the back button. Focus was very fast and rarely had issues with hunting
