  • LIVE COVERAGE: Johnny Depp v Amber Heard Defamation Trial
Actor Johnny Depp is suing ex-wife Amber Heard for $50 million for defamation in connection with Heard’s 2018 Washington Post op-ed, in which she spoke out about being the victim of domestic violence. Heard’s article did not specifically name Depp as her alleged abuser, but according to Depp’s lawsuit, it relied “on the central premise that Ms. Heard was a domestic abuse victim and that Mr. Depp perpetrated domestic violence against her.” Amber Heard is counter-suing Depp for $100 million.
The defamation trial began Monday in Fairfax County Circuit Court in Virginia, with jury selection completing on the same day. There is a possibility of celebrity witnesses testifying, including James Franco and Elon Musk. Tune in to the Law&Crime Network for daily coverage of this high-profile trial.

I don’t know why people say they don’t like the judge. She’s incredibly fair, gives both sides adequate space and leniency, and has been level-headed throughout the trial. It’s a legal courtroom, not the court of public opinion. If you ever have a day in court, you’d appreciate having a judge like this presiding over your case.

Can we just all give a round of applause for Your Honor herself! She is straight by the book and fair. She doesn't show favoritism. She respects the law and runs her courtroom by law and will literally read the law to you. She's remained very professional even when she has to remind people to turn on their mics 100x a day, the patience! She reads over everything. She listens to everything too! I really like her style, you hardly see that anymore nowadays on these "high profile" cases. I love to see it. She's super smart, hope she's seeing what I'm seeing too.

This isn't quite how we might have expected it all to pan out (following the UK legal case that Amber won), and I'm concurring with those that find the JD team's approach compelling. It all illustrates the point that domestic violence can be inflicted by just about anyone - not always the person you think might be the most likely to do it based on their chromosomes.

I think no matter which way this goes, I commend him for airing out all that ugly and he owned it. The fact he is trying to stay clean for himself and his family speaks volumes to me. Good luck to you and your family and may you finally have peace.

You can’t blame social media for anything that is going on in this case, it’s not anyones fault the public can clearly see the truth, it’s not Johnny’s fault that people support him, it’s easy to see through Amber’s lies, I pray the jury can see it too!

  • Maria Madrigal

It is ironic that Amber acts "busy" when witnesses testify against her but when it's her witness siding with her, she plays the victim with a sad face and very attentive to what THEY have to say!

Judge Penney has kept this trial on schedule with calm and patience. Of the few celebrity trials I watched she hasn't played to the cameras at all. That's commendable.

Wanted to applaud Dr Shaw explaining why Dr Spiegel was so wrong yesterday - and setting the record straight on what a correlation is!! 👍🏻

That has to be one of my favorite testimonies I've ever watched, I couldn't stop laughing. The Umbrella guy (who surely was having the time of his life at home), the random mesh shirt question, the defense inventing a story in real time that he's a big Depp fan and wants to get involved, the defense reading out twice by their own volition the tweet that Amber was the one who seemed jealous and crazy (which the plaintiff side would absolutely want the jury to hear), the guy sneaking in twice that Amber triggered his ptsd from his abusive relationship, the very classic scene with the multiple objections in a row, "Can I leave my water here", the completely unrelated Elon Musk hate. It was all top notch comedy, as I've come to expect from this trial.

Mr. Bania is such a professional witness expert. You can see that he is not emotionally inclined to any parties and he is just saying things that he needs to say. This is what a witness expert should do. Props!!!!!!!!!!!

I almost think J’s team had adopted the “What if anything” into their questions because they know Elaine can’t object to it since it’s her catch phrase.

  • Millennial Magic ASMR

It’s wild that this has consumed our attention for 4+ weeks & is coming to an end, the celebrity trial of our lifetime for sure. Johnny’s team killed it!

As a woman, I have seen first hand how a woman can also be abusive, manipulative to men and women. They can read personalities and manipulate their way in and out and around them and situations leaving you feeling somewhat afraid, like walking on eggshells. It's exhausting. This trial made me relive so much and also learned so much more. I hope the jury are able to see right through her. JD is no saint, he has acknowledge his wrong doings,he's actually been an open book throughout his life as shy as he may come across. I think he also needs to accept faults he may have ignored and this is a wake up call for him....But, is he abusive on a physical level??? No.

  • Shivani Chavan

Not only Camille but all the female lawyers in Johnny's team are so talented and smart. They have completely turned it on Amber's witnesses and proved that they are lying.

I love this judge. She's soo patient and even mannered. She thanks everyone regularly and always speaks firm and swiftly. Idk. Something about her just seems peaceful.

I cannot for the life of me figure out why she was smirking during Morgan Night’s testimony. That was simultaneously disgusting and moronic.

  • Maria Elena Illa

The evidence submitted by JD Legal Team is indeed overwhelming.. this is not a matter of being a fan of JD, this is to find the truth and justice should be served. Really wish the jury sees what we are all seeing...there are also men who have suffered domestic violence, domestic violence can happen to anyone, even children..really hope this ends soon with a justice result.

  • Amy Mayerbock

There is such a genuine sense of comradery amongst JD & his team. His team and witnesses are pure quality. Polar opposite of AHs side- aloof and unscrupulous.
