The backup "dancers" are his band. They have been his band since his first album in 1983, they can be spotted in other videos. The drummer, Jon "Bermuda" Schwartz has been with him since 1980, when they recorded Another One Rides the Bus live on the radio on the Dr Demento show. Bermuda, a drummer, banged on Al's accordion case while Al played the accordion and other people in the studio made various funny noises. In interviews, Bermuda said he had met Al that day and had fun so told him he needed a band and he would his drummer. Oh, he's the short one. Steve Jay is the bass player and Jim "Kimo" West plays guitar. Al can also play keyboards and a bit of harmonica.

this is my favorite Weird Al original. :) It's the best song to listen to if you had been heartbroken and needed a laugh. the other one as someone said below that's a lot like it is You Don't Love Me Anymore.

Couple of Al's originals you may want to give a listen to: Nature Trail To Hell from album In 3D. Best ad for an 80's slasher flic. No video for that one. or Dare To Be Stupid from album of the same name. Done in the style of Devo. Mark Mothersbaugh (song writer for Devo) has made comments about it saying he is annoyed by it because Al managed to find the sound that he had been looking for.

G-day Pat. I remember, back in the 80's, artist would gladly give permission to "Weird Al", to use the music , if Al asked to parody their particular song. I'm going to suggest, his parody of Micheal Jackson's song, "Beat It", titled "Eat It". Loved the song/reaction. Weird Al plays the accordion.

Wow! that was a throwback! I forgot about this song. I grew up with Barbershop and the 1st time I heard it was one a quartet performed it and I thought it was hilarious then I found out it was a Weird Al song (of COURSE it is). Check out "Spend this night with me" by Val Kilmer. It has a similar feel but the parody of it goes to the OTHER extreme! It's from a parody movie called "Top Secret" It's HILARIOUS IMO!

As the story goes, a door-to-door salesman happened upon the Yankovic household when Alfred was but a young tot, offering lessons on the guitar or the accordion. Al's parents, of Yugoslavian heritage, were aware of the polka king & accordion master Frankie Yankovic (no relation), and thus opted to sign him up for that instrument. And the rest, as they say, is history.

Weird Al - Christmas at Ground Zero is my second favorite - only 2nd to THIS song. Anyone who has had a girl break up with them can INSTANTLY identify with the sentiment in this song. As far as I know, he plays the accordian often in his polka covers of "modern" songs. Check out "Another One Rides the Bus" and his Polka Medley.

I've been a fan of Al's since the beginning. and in my opinion this is his best song, basically the Mt. Everest of Al songs. Everything since this has been downhill, but only a couple of feet downhill.

Took my 12yr-old daughter to Washington, DC's 9:30 club when he was appearing there a couple decades ago. General admission, no seats in the audience pit. We came early so we were able to position ourselves at center, actually leaning on the stage edge. My daughter was THRILLED when Weird Al got down on one knee & sang this song directly to her.

I played this for my Mom awhile back and she lost it. There was definitely some peeing involved. LMAO
You had exactly the same reaction as I have everytime I hear the line "shove an ice pick under a toe-nail or two."
He plays the accordian for sure and probably a couple of others. He is such an amazing chameleon and can pull off any look he chooses. Definitely in the running for my favourite artist of all time as I like to write parodies from time to time. Not nearly as good as Al but I do my best.
