Just left out of the recruiting station just now. SSG loved my file basically just have to lose weight. Would be a huge honour since my dad was a ranger in Vietnam .
seems crazy that I could come back (I'm prior service) and I have my degree now in Information Security, but I could potentially get stuck in Infantry or some other branch where my degree and years of knowledge in that field (my civilian job is an IT Director) will go completely to waste.
I was thinking the same exact thing… software engineer and pen tester on civi side, wants to go cyber, but may end up Infantry or something…. It’ll hit me different still going OCS too good luck
If you all can contact units the have signal/cyber officer slots open and you can get the BN CDR to give you a letter of acceptance (LOA) you can ensure you get the branch you want. Without a LOA it’s the needs of the Army/Your state
Would the degree I get in college help me get the branch I want. For example if I got a degree in Aerospace engineering would that help me get in the aviation maintenance or engineering of some sort?
Hey man, appreciate the info! I’m in the application process for OCS right now and already low key trippin about branching 😂 very early I know. If everything goes well, I would like to aim for a combat arms branch, specifically infantry, and I’m just wondering if you know if combat arms is usually the go to for active duty?
I’m about to enlist at MEPS as 09S, I’m trying to have some sort of idea about what branch I’m interested in. But can’t find information about what the actual officers do. I only find I for on the brand in general. Do you have a detailed list (or link to one) about an officers duty for each branch?
Thank you. I will graduate with w college degree in December and I want to be a pilot. If I go to a recruiter, when I attend OCS, will I be guaranteed a pilot slot upon finishing OCS or it will depend on my score?
@@shujayethossain6554 It will depend on your score on the OML (merit list based on physical and and written tests). If you want a guaranteed pilot spot, look at street to seat to become a warrant officer.
I was curious as the Army has waivers for everything could you tell me what you think the absolute cut off date is for OCS I understand it probably has to do with needs of the Army and case by case bases but I just enlisted and want to try out for OCS later down the road
For the Army National Guard you must commission before your 41st birthday. The reason is so the army can get 20 years out of you before the mandatory retirement age of 60.
My son is finishing his third year at the Citadel military college in South Carolina. He’s just been made aware that the number of allocations for commission to second lieutenant have been reduced. Do you have a recommendation as to how he can receive a commission upon completion of his graduation next year? Sure would hate to waste this investment in a formal military college.
If ROTC does not work he can always apply for OCS. If he is pursuing a Med Branch I don't see him not getting his commission. If not, ROTC should have further guidance on what he needs to do to separate himself from the others. The Army always needs good Lts, even if they are giving fewer commissions.
About to finish college. Was curious. 1) Is OCS something you would ask for in your recruitment contract? How does that work? Also 2) trying to get RASP in the contract. 3) there’s typically a signing bonus for enlisted infantry. So if you go to OCS is there just no signing bonus?
1. Yes speak with a recruiter specifically about OCS 2. You will have the opportunity to go to ranger school as an officer with certain branches (ie Infantry) and not so much with other branches (ie aviation) 3. No signing bonus for OCS. Potentially a bonus for certain branches however would not count on it.
I did online practice tests before taking it just to brush up on my gen-ed skills. Not much more. 110 GT is requirement for Officer board selection, I believe my score was around 118
I don’t know if you still run this channel but if I become an officer do I need to be infantry because my skills are good all technology not good in hands on hands combact
Everyone, to include Cyber, Aviation, and every other branch, must go through a basic level of infantry before they get their selected branch. The OCS process is all based on basic infantry
@@ColeAlanFF glad you said that. Saves me the time. I know you mentioned being a cop and myself a firefighter. I was hoping my civilian career would be a reason to go to federal or accelerated OCS.
Unlikely, but I don't want to say impossible. My state did not have many people going through state OCS that year so they needed me as a number. Your state may have more people doing the state route allowing them to send a couple to the federal program. States have to have a certain amount of candidates to keep the funding for their program active
Hey is there is anyway I can reach out to you now on some social media and pick your thoughts on this I’m thinking about enlisting into a branch now having my bachelors degree in sociology
I live in a military town and it is very popular for retired commission officers. My advice is to go Finance, why you ask ? I deal with these arrogant retired officers very often in my job. Their focus is on themselves. They try to talk over everyone they come across, and give the appearance of being very arrogant. Finance would suit this type great but, no they pick a field where they are in charge of many people. Finance would afford this type to live in their own little world and not bother others with their blown up egos.
@@Average_Gatsby It has been a while since I was in. I remember enlisted folks getting finance slots fairly easy. If your going in as a Commissioned Officer I have no idea what your chances are. You have to make a certain score for any MOS in the Army. I was in Combat Arms. Recruiters will lie to you and tell you only certain jobs are open. They are just filling slots and don't care about you. Go ahead and test and physical at MEPS and if they still hold out on you for the job you want just tell them to give you a call when a slot opens up. Infantry is competitive. Make sure you score high in your class so you can get your first choice. Otherwise you will get the branch you don't want.
