Thank you for the review! Looking for a little radio to carry around the house with my little one, as I'm getting sick of picking music all the time. Who would have thought! I want the choice taken away from me 😅. I have so much to think about, i just want music on in the background. Think I'm going to go for the mini. I wish they had a handle.
Awwww, is it a new baby?? I was so tired with my first born that I thought I would actually literally DIE of tiredness, and my brain was sooooo wiped out, so I get the not wanting to have to select music! These radios are fantastic portable options imho (the Petite def sounds better though). I see how a handle would be useful if you’re needing to carry/shepherd a little one around… what about headphones (AirPods Pro 2 are fantastic!) - or is the music for your baby too? Another really really small but very decent sounding DAB option is the Raddy RD23 - verrrry small but still sounds pretty good, with an approx 8 hours battery life - that one would just fit in your pocket pretty easily 🤷♂️👍
@accoutrements4469 yeah, my first. He's 6 months. He's a gem. Exactly, I appreciate my Spotify, but looking for a little radio to carry between rooms, maybe in my pocket as we go around the house. I'll have a look at that other one, thank you so much!
Thank you for the review. I like the matching colours of the two radios. I had a rambler mini in sunburst yellow for a while and tried out the Sangean DDR-7 which is almost identical to the Roberts Petite. I would say the sound of the Petite is a little more sophisticated - I liked both of them :) btw - Roberts just released a new range of rambler radios, maybe I'll go for the rambler uno next!
Thank you for the comments! I kept the Petite and returned the Rambler as the Petite definitely sounds better. And wow, I wasn’t aware of the Rambler Uno until I read your comment! Now THAT looks like it might be the Rambler re-issue I’ve been hoping for: leatherette and real wood, proper looking knobs, etc - looks beautiful! I will almost certainly pick one up to try! The audio quality on the previous Rambler BT (mono version) was very very poor for music imho so I pray they have made it better for this release… From what I can work out it runs from aa batteries & with a traditional wall plug: not much info online but that’s what it looks like, makes it a bit of a pain for travelling with if that’s the case as you’d have to take the extra proprietary plug with you - bit of an odd decision if that is the case 🤷♂️ Anyway, I shall see, and thanks very much for the info! 👍😃
@@accoutrements4469 you're wellcome, there is also a video about the sangean ddr-7 if you are interested. I think the new rambler range is not really released yet, they just put some photos on their website. I guess there will be more information about it in the near future. they mentioned the word "passive radiator" that let's me hope it has improved sound!
Ah I couldn’t see any information about a passive radiator when I first looked so thank you for confirming that. It is available to buy in the uk but nowhere that offers free returns as yet so I don’t want to buy one to test just in case I don’t like it and then have to pay lots to return it (it will cost a lot to post in the uk due to the weight and value). I’ll wait a bit before I get one. I will also check out your DDR-7 review. Strangely the ddr-7 costs much more than the roberts petite in the uk 🤷♂️
Hi. I like your videos. Very helpful - especially the sound bites. After watching I bought the Rambler Mini. I'm very happy with it. It's just like my Gran's old radio from the 1970/80s. Only smaller . Will you do a review of the Rambler Uno when you get one? I'd be interested to know what it's like for future reference. Thank you.
Ah yes, I’m definitely going to try the Rambler Uno, & maybe the Rambler Max too! Am away for a couple of weeks so haven’t picked one up yet but will certainly get one to try (& review) when I get back 👍 Glad u like the Rambler mini - it’s very cute! 👍
@@accoutrements4469 Thank you! The RM is very cute. The RU looks very similar. I'm hoping it will go on sale in John Lewis at some point. They have some great deals on radios.
Yes I’m keeping an eye on John Lewis and Amazon too! Bit early in its release for any discount I suspect but I’m sure there will be some deals soon enough 🤞Am still surprised there’s not a single video review of it yet (in fact I’ve only seen 3 review on John Lewis and nothing else at all yet) 🤷♂️ Glad you’re liking the Rambler Mini 👍
The petite is a great little radio with seriously impressive sound but both of these radios really do need some "one touch" presets for station's and not buried in a menu, apart from that they are great.
I’ve owned both of these but ultimately sold them on. Rambler mini was too big to be portable and had a really boxy sound. The petite 2 didn’t sound good enough for the £99 price tag. The search continues!! Think I’ve been spoiled by my relatively retro Pure Evoke 2XT, they don’t make them like they used to.
Ah, I did have an Evoke 2XT - it was very good at the time but I seem to recall the display broke on it. I do still have a Pure Evoke 1S (& the external S1 speaker) that’s just about still functioning ok! A few dodgy buttons on it but it works as long as I have a little patience with it! I do agree the Rambler Mini sounds a bit boxy - I think I am going to send that one back. I can’t agree with you about the Petite though: personally I think that sounds fantastic for its size 👍👍 It not going to compete with something much bigger but I think it has a really nicely balanced sound presentation in a very compact format. Still haven’t found anything which is perfect though, as you say! ✌️🙂
Try Ruark r1 mk4. That thing explodes in sound and has better sonics than middle size bluetooth spekaers from jbl like charge 5 or from bose like revolve plus 2. Ruark beat those mid size heavy speakers and has enormous sound.
@@rudolof8540 Personally, I wasn't impressed by the sound of the Ruark. I find the sound of Tivoli Audio devices to be much more enjoyable. That may just be me.
You’re quite right that Roberts stuff is made in China nowadays, but I believe it’s made by Sangean and they make some excellent gear. Almost all uk manufacturing is unfortunately now long dead isn’t it but Chinese stuff doesn’t necessarily automatically mean it’s crap 🤷♂️ This is a great radio, and well made 👍
@@accoutrements4469 I remember when everyone fell into the trap of saying 'Jap-crap,' and that turned around a practically wiped out many British industries. China has come on a long way. They listen to feedback, and adapt, just like Japan did.....does!
Yes, a lot of Japanese manufactured stuff is regarded as some of the very best nowadays isn’t it. Some Chinese stuff really is bottom-of-the-barrel cheap trash, sure, but that’s certainly not the case for everything that comes out of China is it 👍

Roberts was such a big British brand in the sixties. Now they are just cheap Chinese crap, like everything else.

Yep. But there are manufacturers that really shine in their amps and built-in neodymium speakers like Ruark , Tivoli and C. Crane.
