@@zackburkhardt I'm guessing you consume at least some European content, and yes learning German definitely helped you. It seems like most Americans are not exposed to European culture (or World culture for that matter) at all, and when they then go to learn another language they just can't do the pronunciation because all of their life has been American English and American content.
@@beirch yeah unless you've got family or really good friends, you're just not exposed to other cultures/languages at all basically. Or if you are, its so minimal that it doesn't help you learn
@@zackburkhardtyes, you’re way too hard on yourself, having heard your closing thoughts. You’re able to physically pronounce sounds like a native. Anglophones usually stop at the “R” and “A” sound in foreign languages (because the whole Latin alphabet is drastically different in English (“ayy-bee-see-dee”) compared to the alphabet the rest of European languages share, whether they’re Romance, Germanic or Scandinavian (“ah-bay-say-day”)). So yeah, German really DID help a lot! Learning Dutch first would have made a softer transition between English and German, and English and French, but glad you went the hard way 😂💪
I met my wife at school and since she’s Italian, I learned Italian in secret to surprise her. I first tried during the evenings and weekends with a language course book (this was the 1980s), but it bored me. Since I already learned French at school and was quite good at it, and the similarities between French and Italian are quite extensive, I got myself an Italian novel instead and worked my way through it over a three week summer holiday that I spent away from her with my parents. Whenever I came across a word I couldn’t guess exactly, I wrote it down, and every few dozen words collected I looked them up one by one in a dictionary. By the end of the holiday there wasn’t a word in that 180 page novel I didn’t know, and I could have told the story by heart, in Italian. It was a full immersion and a bloody hard piece of work, but young love is powerful. We’ve raised three bilingual kids together, and I took the Italian part of that, by the way.

And natives have a diff accent and speed so it's not easy. Kudos to you brother! You held great convo on only 30 days or 27 to be precise of learning a language

this is such a wonderful thing to do for your friend and a great way to learn a new language especially with french being so difficult!! (unfortunately it really, truly, disappoints me how many people, even today, can not comprehend a boy and girl just being friends, even then the act of not being able to refrain from making assumptions about strangers relationships, wish the world was a bit more accepting about such things)
Really good job with the French! I'd be nervous too hahahaha...she speaks English really really well as well! Usually the accent from a French person is thick but it's like she had grown up in the US!
alright, boy, now you can tell her in her own language that you like her and you will be able to understand "i see you as a friend" in her language as well! *sighs* The things that we do when we fall for someone are incredible, we've all been there, but you brought a whole new level to the table, congrats, at least you learnt another language, in most cases, you only have the pain and no more than that lol. And people, don't say that the tension between them has nothing to do with that, we all know that there is because if it was with his guy friend, there would be less than a third of that nervousness that we see here, hands tension, eyes trying not to hold in each other for too long, his look at her when she's thinking. Bruh, that's what falling for someone is, it's beautiful btw

It was so satisfying and it seemed to me that he was pleasantly surprised as well.
Keep up the good work.
its a great feeling, right? that's so cool, especially in a country where people automatically assume you can't speak their language
I've been learning french for 4 months now and I could understand most of the videos, both your and your friend's sentences. I feel honestly kinda proud of myself as apart from my class I don't have any sources for listening to french right now (by choice) and the people in my class are obviously not natives. And natives have a diff accent and speed so it's not easy. Kudos to you brother! You held great convo on only 30 days or 27 to be precise of learning a language
good job! that's dope that you were able to understand all of it. Thanks!
Je suis tombé sur ta vidéo par hasard avec l'algorithme et franchement bravo pour les efforts que tu as fait pour apprendre notre langue pas si évidente! Bonne continuation 😊
Merci!
good job bro, super well-made video! J'espère que vous continuerez à apprendre le français!
Merci!
Your pronunciation is actually pretty impressive 👏🏻👏🏻
Thanks!
When she said "The people i met" you secured it. Job well done lad
This was super commendable for the short amount of time you had to learn it! And the fact is she understood your questions almost perfectly
Thanks! She definitely knew what I was saying, not so much the other way around though haha
it's actually great that your learning french and got so good like in a month I had an american accent for like 3 months
I've heard the French love to hear an American twang when speaking french so maybe an accent isn't too bad...
Authentic and motivational forreal 🙏🏾
thank you!
HONEST video. Love it. Don't belive those fake youtubers out there man. I liked this video a lot
Thanks so much! I'm glad you enjoyed it
“And that kids is how I met your mother.”
Bravo !!
I still like to tease the french a bit here and there but it's out of love :)
I love your humility but you did a great job in such a short time! And you two are so cute and heartwarming.
13:20 In the States, one of the equivalents of that phrase would be "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" at least here in the south. I was born in Cameroon in a French Province in Cameroon and I have been living in the states since 2009. You did VERY well for someone who had such little amount of time!
Yeah good point, we've got our own thing. thanks!
Such commitment to communicate with someone you care about, very nice!
this is exactly the lengths a guy would go to and still be in the friend zone. but where all the good guys at.
One of the cutest and realistic language learning videos I've seen yet. Don't worry mate, the other videos are pretty unrealistic.
bro why dont you just tell her you love her???
never learned how to say it...
@@zackburkhardt you do. this is how
@@zackburkhardt HAHA you do you bro
@@zackburkhardt bro never say a girl i love you. Just let it flow with time everything will fall into place. I ve been there before too.
@@zackburkhardt "Je t'aime!" 😜
She has such a beautiful soul ❤️. Be a great friend to her!
He will have to be because that's all he's ever going to be to her no matter how much french he learns.
@@movieswithmatticus5469 go be sad and depressing alone
@@movieswithmatticus5469 Projecting your deep rooted insecurities onto others on the internet isn't a great way of coping, try another way.
I think you did well for 30 days just keep at it, don’t stress. French is not easy, I grew up speaking and learning French in Senegal, once I moved to the US I realized how difficult they made the French language. Like what! So many verb tenses and prepositions!
Your friend was verry kind to speak slowly so you could understand ;)
Bravo a toi !
yeah she was very understanding of my lack of skill haha
Its nice to see her instantly talking slow so that he have a genuine chance to understand.
That's so cool. And I really liked that she didn't try quickly to correct you. And the notepads are best and also conversation to improve your french. At least, it worked for me to improve my english
yeah she took it easy on me thankfully haha. good idea!
I’m an American who’s been fascinated by La langue française for many years. I never took a formal class; I learned it all on RUclips and through music. My progress was nowhere near as fast as yours. This video simply blew me away that you could put together decently complex sentences after just two weeks. I’m very proud of you brother.
Thanks man!
It's still a pleasure to see a foreigner learning our native language :)
As a native you did a fantastic job in 30 days
I'm so proud of you I wouldn't do that myself I have been learning English for many years I can say that is the level I had after six months to one year
Congrats bro you're so brave ❤
thanks! made it a lot easier to have a friend who I knew would be excited regardless of how good I was
"I'm gonna treasure that memory forever" - this is actually very strong dude. Props to you, you did a really good job and put a real effort into this. Be proud of urself mate.
thank you!
this is such a wonderful thing to do for your friend and a great way to learn a new language especially with french being so difficult!!
(unfortunately it really, truly, disappoints me how many people, even today, can not comprehend a boy and girl just being friends, even then the act of not being able to refrain from making assumptions about strangers relationships, wish the world was a bit more accepting about such things)
so true.
Ton geste est trop mimi haha ! et franchement avoir tout ça en 30 jours c'est vraiment bien, j'espère que tu vas continuer !
Merci!
Really good job with the French! I'd be nervous too hahahaha...she speaks English really really well as well! Usually the accent from a French person is thick but it's like she had grown up in the US!
Thank you so much! Yeah, you'd never know she was French when she speaks English
This man is amazing ! He needs more suscribers. Bravo tu es super fort !
preciate you
alright, boy, now you can tell her in her own language that you like her and you will be able to understand "i see you as a friend" in her language as well!
Insane video, I'm so happy to someone have the courage to share a real 30 days learning challenge.
Your level is really good for 30 days only and for me is better than most of people would do in 30 days.
RUclipsrs wants ppl to dream of what they could do in 30 days even if they never will because it's most of times scam or simply very talented gifted hardworking people which isn't the average :)
What a wonderful friendship :)
nice job my friend,
I am very impressed by your ease after such a short time. you are amazing. kisses from France.
bro deserve this girl and paradise, god bless you je t'aime mec
I think one of the most beautiful gift you can give to your foreign friend or partner is talking in their mother tongue. I feel like this deepens connections between two persons, as you can convey your emotions on a much deeper level.
Incredible video!!! enjoyed watching so much
Thanks!
This is awesome. Your English has gotten to be very good! Keep up the good work, Zack
He's from USA...
Thank you Alex.
As a french, thanks you, thanks for your effort, even if your french isn't prefect, it's still cool to see peoples learning this language,
France love you bro !
You're quite welcome. glad to have the love! my opinion of the french low key changing a lot from the reception to this video
@@zackburkhardt We LOVE when someone tries to speak our (very difficult) language. You'll always get warm welcomes if you try just a little with natives ;) You did a great job with your pronounciation, the 'r' sound in particular is very hard to get, especially for english speakers, props man !
@@geriellindemannvhaseyar3513 thank you! good to know you guys appreciate it haha
@@zackburkhardt So you had a bad opinion about french people even while having a french friend ?
@@LouiseRose-k6o yeah some of the stereotypes were reinforced but we're working on it
I can see something in your eyes brother. I think you love this girl.
c'était vraiment une initiative incroyable, tu as vraiment l'air d'être un bon ami, félicitation, tu n'as pas été mauvais après seulement 30 jours sincèrement
it was really an amazing initiative, you really seem like a good friend, congratulations, you haven't been bad after only 30 days sincerely
ah thanks so much!
Thats so pure, i love it
This video caused youtube algorithm to go crazy after 10 month
I enjoyed watching your video the progress and result
Thanks! Yeah it's crazy, it's just been blowing up the past few days
That's so sweet.I wanna friend like you
My guy was SWEATING. You did a great job
bro wtf this is the first video of you that i see and when you started talking french with her i was so in tears
I was just scrolling through the videos until i came across this one. And i really loved it.
Ur dedication to learn French just to surprise and communicate with ur friend makes me feel that you're a kind and lovely person. Keep up the Good work❤❤❤.
Also you deserve a family so i am ur subscriber now, yay🎉🎉
Thank you! glad you enjoyed it and that you're sticking around!
Tes progrès sont impressionants, continue d'apprendre le français mec !
Dudes brain shut off the second he was near her. Forgot 90% of the french he learned
same thing happens w german
@@zackburkhardt Yeah, because you automatically fall back into your innate patterns.
B2/C1 level would be when you manage to "turn that off" and actually think in the language you're speaking.
for 30 days his memory of those complex and long words is crazy, being able to hold a conversation like that is really good, he only forgot some of little words in between and she managed to understand everything he said. bien joué frérot !
Her change in expression when she realized it was actually 27 days. I love that transition even in her own language of understanding words vs understanding the meaning.
yeah that was quite a confidence boost
the meaning she described for "on ne change pas une équipe qui gagne" is not correct ^^
it's a rough equivalent of "if something ain't broke don't fix it"
Smh I'll see what she has to say for herself
7:31 LMAOO I ALMOST CHOKED ON MY FOOD I DIDNT EXPECT THIS😭💀💀😭💀
so glad someone commented on this and enjoyed it haha
How is your french going now? Did you continue learning? If you continued, it would be so nice to hear you speak it now :D
I haven't kept at it unfortunately, been moving on to other things. But I plan to work on it again in the future and will definitely have an update!
@@zackburkhardt Continue. Tu vas y arriver ;)
As a Native French, I find it very beautiful the effort you make to please your friend. please go ahead and tell her what you feel, if she says yes it will be the start of a beautiful story. If she refuses it will mean that there is no chemistry and you will move on. But don't waste your time otherwise you will regret having missed your chance or you will regret having wasted your time. I wish you good luck, you seem like a good guy.
thank u for the advice
People don't do enough of this. Learning languages is something to open up new parts of the world, and new parts of yourself.
it's tough to find the motivation or the usefulness sometimes but its definitely awesome once you try
Why no one mention the thing that he's friend who knows french very well does not used difficult constructions and speak veery slowly. If you know french i think you know what i mean. She literally speak as a french learner not as a native speaker. And i found it very cute.
Sorry for my mistakes, i'm only learning english
She definitely took it easy on me haha. Best of luck, you're doing great!
@@zackburkhardt thanks😊
Elle a juste adapté son discours pour l'aider à comprendre.
Actually in the south of France the pronunciation is more Spanish. Only in the north/Paris they talk with those R's
Ah see maybe I just need to go to the south.
Not at all
You meant like Italian. But if you talk about Pays Basque, I’d say you are correct.
BRAVO !!
Wow….I studied French for several years in school and still struggled to communicate with a native speaker, so you did amazingly well in only 30 days!! I can’t imagine how anyone could possibly be critical of your results. Is this what the world has come to, that people really think you can become fluent in a language in only a month?! I’m 47, and there was no such expectation “back in my day.” Anyway, great job! You made your friend so happy!
thank you!
Starting with 1000 most common words is a great idea. You learned rly fast and you have a great pronunciations for a 30 days learning challenge!
thank you!
